14 Rain And Flames

Jumping into the room, Morly had a lantern strapped to his waist and didn't look nearly as friendly as usual.

The young captain didn't respond to the wretch's comment and only looked sternly at the monster.

The man wasn't furious, as he had only arrived moments ago and had no idea of what had happened, he only saw that Superstes wasn't there and that there wasn't blood either.

"What were you planning on doing?" he asked the small monster in front of him.

It was hard to tell due to the oversized, long dark coat and the fact that he was somewhat hunched over but the monster was much shorter than the average person, one meter and forty centimeters at most.

"Oh, please, why take that vindictive tone with me? Why could I, noble and friendly wretch that I am, be doing in an orphanage in the dead of night? Obviously, I am but a little and adorable monster who believes he is little kid and I have come to be amongst my supposed kind" his long winded explanation and the smirk he wore all of the time he spoke didn't make the monster look any more trustworthy, leaving him in the negatives.

The wretch was between a rock and a hard place, or rather, a sword swinging human and an agressive dog, neither of his two opponents seemed willing to make the first move in this situation.

The wolf-dog not wanting to have its other eyes slashed and Morly, knowing that the wretch could easily speed away from any attack he could throw at him, he had managed to to get the monster once but he doubted the same trick would work twice.

A month ago, the wretch had barely made a sentence and now he was speaking rivers of words without any break.

Quite frankly, it seemed like the monster and the council member were on par in term of bullshit they could spew per second.

Despite being clearly delibitated by a wounded arm, the handsome wretch didn't appear to be worried, he shook his shoulders from left to right, making the useless arm swing around as some drops of blood trickles from underneath the sleeve.

It unnerved the man and dog, the wretch gave looks to the both of them, his pitch blacke sclera and deep purple irises seemingly staring right through their skull, as if they weren't present at all.

The wretch then suddenly started spinning around before running off, running and crawling on the walls and ceiling as he sprayed his own blood everywhere.

As expected, Morly had excessive trouble getting an idea of where the monster was exactly, he couldn't tell for certain, even though it certainly was going slower than supposed due to the injury.

Morly could only guess what the monster was going to do, it definitely wasn't running away as he kept on moving around the unlit room.

Morly may be a guard captain but this was a small town with little criminal and monster activity inside and in the surroundings, the level and training of guards was subpar, so was their equipment.

They barely had any levels and so, they only had a few points, or whatever it was called for them, of stats added to their base strength and this scraps of points could be dispersed in any way between the thirteen known stats available in the system.

They were weak, basically citizens with a weapon and pieces of armor, Morly was captain because he was smarter and had managed to develop a quick movement skill, which couldn't even compare to this monster's simple movement speed.

Morly was just as weak as them, as feeble the wretch might be, the monster had an advantage over him.

Before the guard could react, the wretch slid on the ground and using the momentum, opened up the dog's belly, spreading his guts all over the ground.

As if reloading, the monster's claws fell off and were replaced.

Much different to his earlier, almost joking attitude, the wretch glared hatefully at Morly, moving toward the bed, grabbing the blanket and throwing it at the human's face.

Morly slashed at the visual obstruction, only to find the wretch to be nowhere.

The wretch had moved right behind him and grabbing the man's ankle, sunk his teeth into his heel, letting his teeth be detached as new one took their places, leavin most of the old ones struck inside Morly's flesh.

It was no mystery for the gorgeous monster that he was incredibly bad at dealing damage, leaving him no much choice to usually target soft tissues, places that could be damaged by even the lowest of the low.

And even though humans were pretty defenseless, as in, they lacked any natural defenses, he found it difficult to damage anything other than the softed of areas.

The stomach and throat or eyes for exemple.

It got much more exerting to slash at more robust areas and only for small wounds at most, even with considerable acceleration.

So, he couldn't simply slash both of Morly's heels swiftly, forced to focus on only one.

The guard was assaulted with intense pain he wasn't used to in the slightest, he kneeled over as he tried to shield his neck and face but in his state, even the light monster could shove him to the ground.

Once on his back, the monster started slashing like a maniac at anything in the way, guards in the city had access to a chestplate and a helm at most, the last being one with a open face.

Morly tried to get the wretch away from him but couldn't hit him as he went completely wild on him, most of the damage was on his arms but with repetitive slashes, he noticed that he was bleeding absurdly, most likely due to severed veins.

"As expected, I easily come out on top, you got me good last time, but I was as unprepared as I could be!" chuckled the wretch as he started to get good gashes on the man's face and neck.

Still, in his mad glee, the wretch didn't miss the creak of the floor near him.

"Ah" he made a small sounds of understanding as a Superstes swung a while oil lamp right into his face, making him catch on fire as if he was a dry bush in summer.

"AH! Dammit! Skree! Skra!" he made horrible sounds, which outclassed the sound of his usual voice by a large margin, making the girl cover her ears.

"You little bitch!" he yelled out before jumping right through the nearest window, which wasn't the same as the one broken by Morly, getting shards of glass stuck to him as he rolled into the street and under the delivering embrace of the rain.

Noticing lights in the distance, the wretch crawled into the darkness of the night.
