Chapter 19: School Fair, Part 1

I went home with paint smudges all over my hands from helping my club paint our booth. I forgot to wash it because it already dried off. My brothers aren’t still home because the higher years needed to render overtime at their booths.

“Hello, Andy.”

He was the only one home that late afternoon with mom at the kitchen, and dad is still at work.

Andy was cutting square-shaped figures out of his cardboards.

“Hailey, Andy’s going to the school fair tomorrow, but no one’s going to be with him,” mom said while preparing cookies and milk.

She gave them to Andy.

“Maybe I could be with him?” I suggested as I threw my bag on a nearby chair.

“Nah, I’m going to ask Mrs. Nanto to look after them. I have many editing jobs that are piled up. I wish though that I could have been the one with Andy,” she said while patting Andy’s head for an implied apology and regret.
