Chapter 20
“We’ve had a minor run in or two with your stepbrother. There’s no question he’s in with some drug dealing hoods. We’ve just been waiting to catch them. We wanted some hard evidence besides hearsay, but now we’ve probably got reason to detain and question him and if the prints link him to this incident we can charge him with several felonies. I hope we can get this resolved quickly, Dan. Nobody needs to have to deal with shit like this.”
After the deputy left, all they could do was wait.

They sat on the patio for a few minutes to finish second cups of coffee. Mal had almost lost track of what day it was. Then he figured out it was Monday. He sighed. Dan likely had ranch work to do and was already getting a late start.
