"Love and loyalty I pledged that day...to something that wouldn't last."

"Mmm... nice initials," I thought and dropped the card back in the drawer, as an afterthought, I picked it back up and dialed her number on my phone, she picked up on the third ring.

"Good evening ma," I spoke into the phone "it's Fiyinfoluwa"

"Evening dear, how are you?"

"I'm very fine, uh...I'll be at your house in the next five minutes"

"Okay, when you get to the gate, knock once, I'll open it for you"

"Okay, see you then."

I hung up and gathered my things, it's time to enter the mansion. As long as Shola, or any one doesn't see me, I'll be in a good mood all night. I got to the gate and it opened even before I knocked on it, whatever, that saves my knuckles from pain. I walked in and the gate snapped shut.

Walking down the pavement I kept looking from left to right at everything and how they glowed under the moon light, this place is beautiful. I got to the front door and gulped at its size, huge, I pressed the bell button and heard the melodious music that came afterwards as it rang through the house, I can't wait to get inside. As I clutched my case tighter the door opened slowly and I saw her again, it's just now that I can clearly see that she's kind of an albino.

She's very light skinned and has a Amber brown eyes, her hair was a shade of caramel which makes sense because of her skin colour. Judging by her look I don't think she's anything less than 45 years of age, but her looks would deceive you along with her pearly white smile.

She ushered me in and I stepped on the white and black patterned rug, then I removed my shoes and looked up, my jaw literally fell open...I stood in the living room and looked at the velvety cushions and settees, there was even a white chaise lounge, that was when I realized most of the furniture in the room were either white or black, the walls were cream painted, everything in the room was beautiful, talk more of the large TV screen I saw, I'm guessing LG OLED because of the curve...

"Your home is beautiful," I complimented.

"Thank you, you know you're the first person I'm inviting here in the night."

Wait what?

What of those shadows I see at night?

"Wow, that's cool,"

"Are those your paintings?"

"Yes"

"Set them down on the table, let's go into the dining room."

I did as I was told and walked on to drop my paintings, my feet were literally absorbed in the soft rug as the air conditioning blasted my skin, it's been long I've felt this comfort. Then I followed her into the dining room, as we got in there I saw various painting on the walls and I was mesmerized, I suddenly felt like I was in a place I can finally be at peace. Art is my life, it seems to be like the only thing that I found trust in since the trauma, the event that made me loose trust in everything else.

I sat while staring at one particular painting, it was oil paint on canvas and it was of a dark figure huddled up in a corner and some even darker figures circling around her, they looked scary...interpreting the painting, it's like she's trying to hide away, probably to avoid doing their wish as it seems they're pushing themselves into her wishes. I could feel the pain, the anguish, the desire to be set free...I felt that way, the pain I've lived with over these past years keeps on haunting me, it keeps on pressing itself unto me... it's...it's evoking anger in me, but there's nothing I can do, I have to live with it...forever.

She set some plates on the table before me and I could smell the sweet aroma of pounded yam and egusi, it's been long I ate that kind of food, very long.

"So how was church today?" She asked me,

"I didn't go"

"Why?"

"Well..."

Ring...ring...ring....

Her house phone started to ring and she excused herself from the table, that was my saving bell, I wonder what she'd think of me if I say I didn't go to church, but, I'm not so sure if she did, or if she still does...anyway, I kept on relishing the goodness of the food before me, like I said, I love food, well...who doesn't?

"Sorry about that, I got a call from the office " she stated as she sat back down and all I did was to nod, my mouth was full...food!

"So why didn't you got church today?" She asked again and I swallowed my food slowly as she watched me with keen eye waiting for my answer, and my answer met her...

"I'm an atheist."
