Elemental Revelations

Exiting the guild Liana I showed Liana how to navigate the system by accessing the quest and map tabs.

'I wish I could see Liana's stats.' I thought to myself, as I came to a sudden realization.

My skill, 'Inspection (A),' only mentioned revealing additional information about the target, it doesn't specify whether the target needed to be inanimate.

With this in mind, I tried to use it on Liana.

"Huh it worked." I blurted out without notice. "However, it doesn't show her skills and titles unfortunately."

"Atlas, are you okay? Why are you staring at me like that... it's kinda creepy." Liana said, backing away.

"Oh, sorry, I was just staring at my system." I explained, snapping out of my daze.

'Her stats are pretty good for her class. Her archery background must have helped.' I thought to myself.

We had decided to take on the quest tomorrow morning leaving today for training.

Liana suggested honing her archery skills to shake off her rust.

As liana practiced her aim, we discovered that her arrow supply was directly related to her mana. Each arrow required one mana point to create.

Letting Liana train on her own. I pondered on my hidden class. Though I was a magic swordsman, I hadn't been able to utilize my mana yet.

Using the knowledge from all the novels I read on my Earth as a basis, I tried to apply it in this world.

'If I try to concentrate and imagine a core at the center of my body as a source, I can use it to transfer mana to my hand and possibly my sword. Liana had mentioned that she had simply had to think to form the arrows with mana.'

"Alright, here goes nothing..." I mumbled to myself.

Taking my stance, I closed my eyes, breathing in, I cleared my consciousness and focused on the center of my body. As time passed I felt a warm sensation gather, using this as an opportunity I directed that warmth across my body into my hands and then tried to exert it into my sword.

Whilst doing so, I imagined the element of fire enveloping my sword.

*Ding*

Feeling a surge of heat wash over me as I opened my eyes, revealing my once silver and dull sword was now ablaze in a vibrant orange and red.

Next to it a blue screen materialized.

[Skill Learned - Elemental Blade Mastery]

"Woah.." I murmured, in astonishment that my attempt had worked.

Snapping out of my daze, I decided to use my inspect skill on my sword.

[Beginners Sword]

 - Grade: G

 - Description: A beginner's sword

 - Damage: 10

 - Durability: 10

 - Weight: 1.5 kg

 - Made By: ???

 - Effect: Burn (When a wound is inflicted, a burn effect will envelop the target, causing him to sustain damage over a period of time.)

"This is amazing!" I exclaimed, excited with my new found ability.

I proceeded to replicate the reaction with the other 3 elements I could control, in order to see their effects on the blade.

Water added a freezing effect, that slows the enemy down by 20%. The air element enhances the user's attack speed and movement speed by 20% and the earth element doubles the damage of the sword, however, it also slows the user by 20%.

'This is amazing' I though to myself. 'Each ability is overpowered. By switching between them throughout a fight I could easily gain an advantage over nay opponent.'

The only drawback was that it required 10 mana every time you switch between elemental affinity and it also drained 1 mana per second of activation.

"Regardless, this skill is amazing." I exclaimed, grinning at the exciting prospects of the upcoming quest.

Glancing at the sky, I realized that time had passed quickly, as it had turned dark. Liana, had exhausted her mana, lying on the ground breathless.

'I guess its time to head home.'

After washing up Liana and I sat in the living room and chatted for a bit.

"You sure you're ready for the quest tomorrow?" I asked, in case she was second guessing herself.

"Yes." she responded sternly. "I have made my mind up, I won't dwell in my depression. I'm going to take my life into my own hands and get back to my family." Her resolve was unwavering, no hint of hesitation in her eyes.

'It seems she has grown some resolve.'

"Well, as long as you're okay with it. Anyways, I'm gonna head to bed. I'll see you tomorrow." I got up and headed to my room.

Before I entered, Liana spoke softly. "Goodnight, and thank you, Atlas."

I turned around to meet her gaze, noticing a subtle smile form around her lips. 'It's the first time she's smiled since she's come here. That's good.' I thought to myself, feeling content.

"Yeah, no worries. Goodnight." I smiled back, entering my room and going to bed.

"as.. tlas.. atlas.. ATLAS!"

"WHT?" I jolted awake to the urgent voice calling my name.

Feeling a warmth on my shoulders I turned to see Liana beside me. Her hands were on my shoulder and her golden hair lay in front of me shining from the morning sunlight.

"You said we'd set out in the morning, but it's already afternoon. Did all that training yesterday tire you that much?" She asked, with a concerned look on her face. "I thought you were dead or something."

"Yeah sorry.. I guess I overslept, more importantly however, could you um leave my room, I usually sleep without clothes and I need to get dressed." I said with a chuckle, embarrassed as I averted my gaze.

"Oh.. sorry." Liana coughed realizing the situation, quickly removing her hands off my shoulders me exiting the room.

"If I knew she was going to barge in I wouldn't have been naked." I sighed.

After swiftly getting dressed, I joined Liana in the living room. She seemed prepared to leave, having already packed all her gear.

"I even prepared some sandwiches incase we get hungry during the quest." She mentioned, placing them in her bag.

"I've been eating a lot of sandwiches since I've come here," I murmured to myself.

Nonetheless, I picked up my things, and shortly later we headed out.
