Endless Battle, Part 1

Looking at the man standing in front of her with a sword in his left hand, Xia Jingfei couldn't help but grit her bloodied teeth.

"Feng'er, I really didn't expect you to be able to pull off such a ruthless ambush, and take so many innocent lives just go after little old me, you impress me, you've grown quite a bit," said Xia Jingfei as she spat out a mouthful of blood, causing Li Fengfeng, who was just about to attack her, grit his teeth.

But even so, there was no hesitation, and no remorse in Li Fengfeng's eyes, no matter what, to kill the cultivator in front of him, sacrifices had to be made, else an uncountable amount of beings would continue dying at the hands of the other part.

In an instant, and without any hesitation, Li Fengfeng appeared behind Xia Jingfei and slashed his sword at her.

Only a moment later, Li Fengfeng's sword was suddenly blocked, causing a huge shockwave to suddenly erupt into the distance.

Usually, such a shockwave would have caused great damage to the surroundings, but right now everything around Li Fengfeng and Xia Jingfei was already destroyed, making this attack feel somewhat lackluster.

But even though Xia Jingfei had absorbed the memories, feelings, and comprehensions of countless Sword Cultivators throughout her life, in the end, she could not compare to Li Fengfeng in his own field of expertise, and as such, her sword cracked after only a few blows.

Although this was the case, Xia Jingfei still had a bunch of tricks up her sleeves, and couldn't be underestimated in the slightest.

In what could be said to be an instant, just as Li Fengfeng was about to use his advantage to deal an even deeper blow to Xia Jingfei, hundreds of formations appeared around the two, causing his attack to be delayed by just a moment, allowing Xia Jingfei to dodge it.

But this was not the end, as only a moment later, the demonic cultivator suddenly went on the counter-attack, and appeared behind Li Fengfeng before suddenly chopping at his neck.

At that moment, it was as if Xia Jingfei had devoured the space between her current location and destination, allowing it to achieve speeds much faster than mere teleportation.

In an instant, a surprised expression appeared on Li Fengfeng's face as he suddenly began burning a large amount of blood essence, using it to speed himself up and block the attack

For just a brief, brief moment, the tide of battle seemed to have turned around, as even though Li Fengfeng was able to block his attack, the burning of his blood essence took a toll on him.

A moment later, Xia Jingfei suddenly let out another attack, causing Li Fengfeng to once again block it, this time not needing to use blood essence.

But surprisingly, the moment Li Fengfeng blocked Xia Jingfei's sword strike, the latter's sword suddenly shattered to tiny pieces, allowing Li Fengfeng to suddenly stab right through Xia Jingfei's chest, before moving his sword to the left, and almost cutting Xia Jingfei in half before the demonic cultivator could arrive.

At that very moment, though, a weird struggle suddenly appeared inside of Li Fengfeng, one that he could never have expected.

Was Xia Jingfei toying with him and tempting him to launch an all out attack and expose himself to her?

As he had fought with Xia Jingfei countless times, and for countless years, both of them had become completely aware of the other's personality.

This was why Xia Jingfei was taken by surprise so much when Li Fengfeng attacked her while ignoring the side effects, as she knew how much the latter despised senseless killing.

Knowing how tricky Xia Jingfei was to fight, as well as how prepared against him, she was, Li Fengfeng felt that Xia Jingfei should have known better than to use a sword to defend against him.

Although he had taken her by surprise, Li Fengfeng still felt as though something was wrong, causing him to fall into doubt for a brief moment.

Should he call Xia Jingfei's bluff? Should he attack her? Had she finally made a mistake?

A moment later, the sword of Li Fengfeng, who had already decided on what to do, suddenly swung down onto Xia Jingfei.

...

A moment after sending out that final sword strike, Xia Jingfei suddenly spat out a mouthful of blood, causing her aura to become even weaker.

As Li Fengfeng let out a second brutal attack just a moment after, a hand suddenly pierced his chest, causing him to suddenly realize his mistake, as the seemingly weaker Xia Jingfei disappeared, revealing that what he had just attacked was just an illusion.

With his power, Li Fengfeng was able to defend himself only a moment later, but sadly, by then, all the advantage that Li Fengfeng had built up was destroyed, causing the two of them to be roughly equal in strength once again.

Even more ironically was that Li Fengfeng was right, Xia Jingfei was, in fact, bluffing, and had made a mistake.

If he attacked with all of his might at that very moment, and took advantage of that mistake right then and there, Li Fengfeng could have dealt a brutal wound to Xia Jingfei, and perhaps even won the battle.

Sadly though, Li Fengfeng hesitated, his mind wavered for just a single moment before he attacked, thanks to the thousands of years that he and his opponent had fought in the past.

In front of Xia Jingfei, who was proficient in illusions, such a mistake was grave, and could perhaps have even proved fatal to Li Fengfeng, if Xia Jingfei was willing to put her life on the line on one single strike.

Of course, someone as cautious as Xia Jingfei was not willing to do something like that, and as such, the battle returned to a stalemate, which Xia Jingfei then used to make her escape, as the wounded Li Fengfeng was in no position to give chase.

As such, the battle between the two temporarily paused.
