1 Off The Edge

He did it...

He finally did it. Leon knew that his obsession with going to a different world was almost psychotic, but he didn't care, he wanted to go and nothing would stop him. Originally, he planned to finish college then wait for his moment to go to another world but that was taking too long, he didn't want to wait that long. His second plan went into action as soon as his current girlfriend left him for someone better. She was the only person that he felt truly understood him, through all of the sadness and social ineptitude. Leon wanted nothing more than to kill the boy and his ex-girlfriend but he couldn't bring himself to do it. He decided that his grief was too extreme to continue any longer and with the pulling of his obsession and the pushing of his grief, Leon decided to commit suicide...

He was laughed at all his life, not once did anyone ever stop and actually care about him. Despite raising him to a decent age, once his parents found out about his depression, they couldn't bear to hand the rest of their life over to him. They disowned him and the second son of the family was given the heir position. Leon wallowed in his defects and his illnesses, but he had to keep living, he felt that finding his life goal was right around the corner. He found a dorm in his collage and got multiple jobs to afford his tuition.

Leon found his goal in life when his roommate showed him anime, Leon was raised away from media by his parents, they didn't want him to be influenced as they originally planned on having him as the heir and their business was all they wanted him to enjoy. He spent all his extra cash on buying anime and watched them in his extra time. He found a girl he liked when he was walking home, she had helped him up when he fell, she was demanding as a girlfriend but he was happy with her. She always asked for money from him, until one day he had no money left to give. As Leon looked back on it from the roof of a building, he knew that she was using him for his money but he didn't want people to hate him. He turned a blind eye on her devious acts, and felt sad when she left, he thought of himself as the lowest of lows.

He didn't want to feel this grief and he didn't want to see himself as low so he followed through with his plan and jumped off the building. As he fell through the air, a sort of calming feeling entered his body, like he was being renewed and fixed. But after a bit, an unbearable pain kicked in, his body felt like it was being ripped apart from the inside, he felt as if he was changing into something else entirely. Then suddenly it all stopped, and when he opened his eyes, his wish had come true and he was standing on a cliff overlooking a beautiful forest setting. Leon fell to his knees as he took in color for the first time in his life. He figured that the photoreceptors in his eyes must have been restored as he also noticed his body had made changes too.

As he gathered himself, he remembered that his body was much heavier and he wasn't able to move quite as well before. Despite how happy he was, he decided to change his personality to match his body, he liked all of the badass and cold protagonists he saw so he would try to match them. After feeling completely renewed, he set off to find a town or some form of civilization.

He didn't find anything remotely manmade during the day, so he decided to make some stuff on his own. He lit a fire and used some gooey substance he found to make a torch, he sighed in relief as the substance was flammable. That moment was when he felt a new part of him light up, he felt as if he was full of a liquid of some kind and he could expel it as he pleased. He tested it out by trying to expel it onto a tree, he held his hand up to the tree after a few moments of trying nothing happened. Leon felt as if this was his magic, by entering this world he could weld magic but he didn't know how to use it yet.

Leon moved on and just told himself he'd ask a professional in the nearest town once he arrives there. He put out his fire and grabbed his torch and walked off again, looking for anything again. Leon found a cave, inside was almost nothing, the cave wasn't very deep. The only thing he found in the cave was a little girl, he crouched in front of her but she didn't look like she noticed him. He figures she's dead but right as he gets up the little girl groans and starts reaching for the fire of his torch. Leon stands and analyzes the little girl.

Leon's walking through the woods looking for food, he assumed the little girl was greatly malnourished. He finds a small dead rabbit, he moves some fur out of the way with a stick and finds a small amount of meat, he reaches in the rabbit and pulls out a bone from its ribs and sharpens it to make a small bone knife for him to use. Leon uses his knife to carve out the small amount of meat in the rabbit and takes it back to the cave for the girl. He had lit a fire for the girl and cooked the meat for her too, he grabs her hand and puts the meat in it to let her eat it. Leon had never seen a disease like hers, blindness, and lack of movement. Leon sighs and watches the girl eat the food, Leon decides to try other ways to interact with her "What's your name, little girl?" The little girl moves slightly but she tries to talk and nothing comes out, Leon thinks for a moment.

Leon leans back against the wall and continues to think as the girl moves over to Leon. She seemed to regain her sight and her ability to move, she puts her hand on Leon's leg and offers a little bit of the meat. Leon looks at her and declines by gesturing, she sits back down next to Leon and starts eating the remainder of the meat. Once she finishes the meat, she curls up next to Leon and falls asleep.

Leon calmly scoots away but she wakes up and follows him, he continues again and she just lays down again. Leon just sighs and picks her up and lays her down next to the fire, she doesn't get up again. Leon leaves the cave and searches for more food, he doesn't find any dead critters so he finds a branch and tries expelling magic into it to make a bow of some kind. The branch's bark carves off and the wood underneath shapes into a recurve bow.

Leon sighs and looks at the bow as he completely forgot about the string of the bow, he poses and pretends to pull back on the bow and a thin strand of magic shapes into a string and another into an arrow on the bow, Leon smiles and fires the shot, it hits a tree and fades once it impacts. Leon laughs and runs off to find something to eat.

Leon runs into a small rabbit and he aims and fires another shot from his magical bow, as he carves the morsel he thinks about how his magic works. He can shape materials into something that he imagines and give it artificial magic to do something, he knows this fact because when he made the bow he no longer required to put magic into the bow for it to work.

Leon continued hunting until he found enough meat to last him for a few days, then he went back to the cave and cooked some of it and ate it, and left the rest for tomorrow. He smiled and leaned back against the wall yawning, he set the bow down next to him and started imagining what he could do with his power, he thought of a pistol he didn't want to make a modern one, he thought of a flintlock pistol as an easy one to form and use, he didn't want it to make such a loud sound and give away his position so he would use magic to charge and fire it.

After thinking through all his plans, he decided to wait until he found out more from this girl relating to the technology of this world. From the shabby shirt and rugged pants, she wore he figured at least the Renaissance era but she might be behind so he slept on it and would decide tomorrow.
