78 Years
Every 78 years, a year-long global rainstorm would occur, displacing all land-based civilizations. Virtually everyone on the planet knows about this phenomena, especially if you live under a rock. Explanations for this cyclical occurrence, vary widely among different cultures and schools of thought. But somehow, they all agree on the number 78. As a result, many superstitions revolving around the number, propagated wildly in the collective psyche of the planet.
Despite its association with the global rainstorm, it is generally seen as a lucky number. Generally. You can only imagine, the slew of fateful implications, flooding those who are born during the rainstorm. Many people believe, that the rain carry soul fragments, in which the disjointed memories of those who are long forgotten reside. Like a tapestry, the meld together at random, reincarnating into a body. It is often said that people born during the year-long rainstorm, would have the complete, albeit rearranged, memories of 78 different people. 78 people who had been buried so deeply by time, that only the rain could recall them.
Well, this may not come to a surprise to you, but I am one of those people who are born with 78 'ancient ones' within me. Supposedly. In my generation, I would categorize myself as one of the ones who are 'agnostic, yet intrigued' by this little 'fact'.
