I know what you did!

As Jaxon pulled up to Julie's house, he spotted her waiting outside, clutching the edges of her nightgown tightly against the cool night breeze. He parked the car and stepped out, his amber eyes meeting her anxious gaze.

If he wasn't sure before regarding her beauty, he was definitely sure now, but trying to maintain a degree of professionalism he maintained his expressions well.

"Jaxon, you're here!" Julie exclaimed, relief evident in her voice as she rushed toward him.

"Hey, Julie," Jaxon greeted her with a small smile, noting the worry lines etched on her face. "Sorry to keep you waiting. Do you want to talk outside or should we head in?"

"My mom can't know about this," Julie said, her voice low and urgent. She glanced back at the darkened windows of her house, a flicker of fear crossing her features.

Understanding the situation, Jaxon nodded as he said, "Let's go for a little drive around the block then, I'll tell you the details on the way."

Julie after a little hesitation finally gave in as she nodded and followed him back to his car, she climbed into the passenger seat beside him. Once she was settled, Jaxon started the engine and pulled away from the curb, the comforting hum of the car's heater filling the interior with warmth.

Julie looked at Jaxon, her eyes wandered around his features for a solid minute before she uttered the words, "Thanks!"

"No problem," Jaxon said as he glanced back at her, "You've made my job extremely difficult, you know that don't you?"

"I can see that." Julie replied with a sense of unease in her voice, "I can understand if things have been really difficult, I'll still pay you for your work even if you haven't managed to find anything."

"While I appreciate the sentiment, I am not that terrible of a detective," Jaxon said handing her the copies he had printed early on, "You can read through them, it's not much but basically the guy you're looking for his long dead."

Julie widened her eyes after hearing his words as she quickly read through the news article, Jaxon who was keeping track of her emotions didn't fail to miss the change in her looks.

"I have found some things that might be of interest to you," Jaxon continued as he stared intently at Julie, "Things concerning how this poor chap David ended up dying."

Julie gulped as she looked at Jaxon, her mind racing with a mix of emotions. "What... what did you find?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"I know what you did." Jaxon said looking down at her with his piercing gaze,

Julie froze, her heart pounding in her chest as she stared back at Jaxon, her mind racing with fear and uncertainty. "What... what do you mean?" she stammered, her voice trembling.

Jaxon's expression remained unreadable as he continued to watch her closely, "There's no point hiding it any longer, come clean and tell me everything," he urged, his voice gentle but firm.

Julie's breath caught in her throat as she realized she couldn't evade the truth any longer. With a shaky sigh, she began to recount the events of the previous summer, the guilt weighing heavy on her chest with each word.

As Julie spoke, Jaxon listened intently, his amber eyes focused on her every word. He could see the pain and remorse etched in her features, the burden of her secrets finally being laid bare.

When she finished, there was a heavy silence that hung in the air between them. Jaxon let out a slow exhale, his mind reeling with the implications of Julie's confession.

"Thank you for telling me," he finally said, his voice quiet but sincere. "I know it wasn't easy, but it's important that we get to the truth of what happened."

Jaxon parked his card on the side of the road, as he leaned back glancing at Julie who was sobbing intently.

"To make two women cry and another woman angry on the same day, I've set some new standards for myself..." Jaxon shook his head as he patted Julie's head trying to comfort her through her tears.

"I am sorry... I didn't mean to hide it, but I was just too afraid back then." She said in between her sobs, "Even now, I keep pretending that I want to confess but every time my friends tell me not to say anything I find comfort hiding behind that excuse."

"That's completely normal." Jaxon tried his best to comfort Julie, who finally calmed down after a while, wiping her tears with the hem of her gown.

"So how did you find out." She asked as Jaxon shrugged,

"I didn't."

Jaxon's response left Julie puzzled. "You didn't? But you just said you know what I did," she said, confusion evident in her voice.

"I doubted that you and your friends might have some relations to the whole incident, after all, it's not every day someone leaves your threatening letters, breaks into your homes, and even tries to run you over," Jaxon said, "If it was a common criminal, he wouldn't have wasted his time doing all this. If it's some psycho freak, he would've just done the job, but most psychopaths as far as I know don't confront people in groups or at least torment them to such a degree and not finish the job when he had the opportunity."

"So it was clear that the person tormenting you had a clear motive, he hates you guys to such a degree that he is willingly taunting you, leaving messages so you would know that he's coming for you."

"Then the fact that you came over to my office talking about how the guy and his probable family member were tormenting you guys so I would have no reason to not take the case, but at the same time you didn't disclose much, and didn't go the police meant that you know why the person hates you guys to such a degree."

"After all the conclusions I had drawn I realized, you all might be connected to this mess that I've discovered, and so I figured why not test you a little."

"Test?" Julie went through several emotions in a single go, but anger was the most prominent. "You put me through all this just to test me? What kind of detective are you?"

Jaxon held up a placating hand. "I understand your frustration, Julie. But, hear me out. I had to be sure. The situation we're dealing with is far from ordinary."

"Explain."

"I met with the sister of David Egan who told me how his brother had died not from an accident but a suicide," Jaxon said as Julie's anger began to wane, replaced by a mixture of disbelief and curiosity,

"Are you sure?"

"I am not, but she did mention one particular thing that led me to believe her," Jaxon said, "Does the words, 'I'll never forget last summer' mean anything to you?"

Julie's face went pale as the words sank in. She stared at Jaxon, her breath catching in her throat. "What... what did you just say?" she whispered, her voice barely audible.

"I'll never forget last summer," Jaxon repeated, watching her intently. "Does that mean anything to you?"

"They... they are the same as the notes and letters we have gotten," Julie said, "The message that I got wrote, 'I know what you did last summer' reminding me of the accident."
