I nodded and then turned to Micah. "Stay with Necos and make sure he gets out. Then burn the place."

"No!" Anae yelled as I carried her toward the exit. "Let me go! Kill me! Let me die!"

A red, orange, and yellow hue shone in through the cave entrance. It was sunset—the end of one day and the beginning of another.

When I walked out, Michael was standing there. "Dakota, you cannot kill off a whole species just because of the actions of a few. That's genocide, and I can't let you do it. Individuals in all species have a choice."

"We're not killing them all," Micah said as he and Necos walked out of the cave. 

Necos was carrying a backpack. "I saved some of the eggs." 

Suddenly, a massive explosion erupted from deep within the cave, and fire flamed out in a rush of heat and power, knocking us all over, except Michael.
