“My dinner has arrived,” Arius told him. He patted Lyle’s head, already distracted and then dragged his palm across his pants. “You can join me if you’d like. See what you can pull off for yourself once I’m done. I’ve heard that the meat is still quite nice, even in the sick ones. Besides,” Arius grinned, “I’m sure if you have a go, there’ll be far less to have to hide from the dictators of the Committee, if you catch my drift.”

A rush of disgust went through Lyle’s body and he pulled back and away. Eat a human? What a revolting thought! They could get killed for something like that. Fuck the GDBCG and their scientists, the Committee wouldn’t even bother with rehab at that point—he’d just get shot up with the kind of tranquilizer that offered the forever kind of sleep and Arius would find his final rest strapped to a board in an incinerator. Did Arius not knowthat?
