Chapter Five: Reincarnation

Fate was still drifting away within the abyss. She didn't know how much time had passed, but if felt like years. She didn't have any of her sense, and it was starting to become annoying.

"Why am I here" she thought to herself, "Is this hell? Is this what I get for all the lives I've taken? That's utter bullshit!! All I've ever done is try to survive in that god forsaken planet, and I'm fucking punished for that?! I'm just supposed to sit here and get tortured by the faces of all the lives I've taken until I go insane?!"

Fate was frustrated and angry, not just with the unfairness of this place, but also with herself. She didn't know what she was thinking when she volunteered for the military.

In reality, at the time she took the lives of hundreds of people from that facility. She felt guilty for that, as she had never taken lives before then. She believed that if she fought to protect lives, then she might be able to atone for her sins. However, that didn't happen.

As soon as they saw her talent for killing, her superiors immediately sent her over to a squad specializing in assassination. She ended up right back to taking lives. Because of her ruthlessness, she eventually acquired the title "Mad Wolf." But in reality, she was still trying to repent despite her kill count.

In the end, 90 percent of the money she made from the army and from contracted assassinations went to poor orphanages around the world. She was hoping that no other children would end up like her. At the end of her life, she helped several thousand orphanages revive the money for food, clothes, shelter, and education.

Her biggest regret in her life, "Why didn't I live the way I wanted too?"

Why didn't she just allow herself to be free? Was is the guilt eating away at her every day of the week when she was in hiding for two years? Was is the mentality they instilled in her at that facility to please everyone around her? She didn't know.

But at this point "What does it matter?"

Thinking about these things wasn't going to get rid of her regret, nor her guilt. In reality, there was nothing she could do. She had no body and her life was being played out in front of her like a torture movie. She wanted to look away at it, but couldn't.

However, what Tessa did at the end didn't make her want to look away. Instead, it made her want to blush. She had actually never kissed anyone in her entire life before that moment. She didn't think that it'd come from one of her own team members, much less another girl.

"I hope they're doing alright," Fate said talking about her team, "Maybe I should've been more open to same-sex relationships before… whatever. Too fucking late now."

Fate continued to float around the void. She could actually feel her mind begin to shatter.

"This is worst than the torture I went through at the Dark Site. At least there I could actually still feel things. I'm about to lose my mind."

Suddenly, a deep, guttural voice emerged from the darkness, "Well this is interesting. I'm not sure I've ever seen a soul like yours before."

"Whoa! Who's there?! Show yourself!"

"You're just a soul. You have no eyes. Even if I showed myself, you wouldn't be able to see me. But I will tell you, I am the god of beasts, Fenrir."

"You're… a god? Those actually exist?"

"Ah! I see now. That's why your soul is so odd. You must come from another world, one where gods don't exist. What planet did you come from, child?"

"A hellhole called Earth."

"What?! That's in a complete different universe! How did you end up here?!" Fenrir asked in a bewildered tone.

"I have no idea. All I do know is that you're probably the first person I've talked to in what feels like years."

"To survive this long in the void between dimensions must mean you have a pretty powerful soul." He answered in a calculating tone.

"What are you getting at?" Fate asked, if she had eyes, she'd be narrowing them.

"I want to reincarnate you."

"Are you serious?!"

"Yes… unless you do…"

Fate cut him off, "No no no no no! Please do! I'm going to go insane if I stay in this fucking place! Please reincarnate me! I don't even care if you reincarnate me as a slime like in that anime! Just please get me the fuck out of here!"

Fenrir chuckled, "Hahahahahaha! Don't worry, child, I'll grant your wish. And you don't have to worry about being reincarnated as a slime. You'll be put into the body of one of my kin. I'll also give you my blessing. But in return, I want you to do something for me."

"What is it?"

"I want you to save my kin and eventually lead them."

"Huh?"

"You see, my kin are referred to as Fallen, and they're not well thought of. Thus they are hunted and enslaved by humans and other races. You have a powerful soul, one shrouded in darkness on the outside, but brimming with light within. I believe you can save my kin from destruction."

"I was an assassin in my last life. I'm no leader."

"The one thing that's the same through all living creatures is that they capable of change. I care for my kin and don't want to see them die. That's why I'm asking you… please save them, child."

Fate thought for a moment. On one hand, she could actually save lives unlike she did in her last life. Once she does so, she could also live lavishly and fall in love. On another, if the Fallen are really hated, then it could be difficult to deal with the other races.

However, at this point, she doesn't care. She's already getting out of this place. She might as well help out a god with saving his children. With her skills and knowledge, she should also be able to survive and make a nation properly.

"Alright… I'll do it!"

"Thank you, child. I'll send you immediately. Tell me your name so that I may bestow my blessings."

"My name is Fate."

"Fate… yes, that fits well. Well then, I ask you to change the 'fate' of my kin. And I give you my blessing to help you do so."

Fate felt a warmth cover her soul, "Thank you, god of beasts Fenrir. I'll do what I can to help all Fallen."

"Thank you, Fate. And good luck."

At that point, Fate felt her consciousness being pulled somewhere. She didn't know where she was going nor what she was going to encounter. But she was excited. This was a new beginning for her. Though she didn't know at the time, like her namesake implied, she indeed was going to change the fate of this few world.
