25 Final Goodbye

"Why are you saying that?" Samantha asked as though there was something that Jon was not telling her.

"I...Have to go," Jon said to her as he looked down at his hand, and his hand was starting to disappear to turn into glowing yellow particles every second.

"You can't leave; I would not know what to do without you!" Samantha hugs him tightly as she also watches his hands disappear slowly in front of her eyes.

As he hugs her warmly with teardrops glistening down his cheeks, "Did you remember how I told you I will always be living and belonging to your dreaming heart?"

She looks up at him in concentration, wanting to hold onto his every word he might speak to her at this last minute.

"Live for me," Jon warmly told her as his arms slowly disappeared and turned into golden particles flying into the air, "as long as you follow your dreams and never stop dreaming, I will be with you, my love."

"But how can I ever do it alone? How can I ever forget you," she asked as a thousand drops of tears fell from her eyes as she remembered all the moments they were traveling together and all the laughter they shared.

She remembered the beautiful moment they had when they were in Japan when she and Jon were wearing traditional clothing as they celebrated watching the fireworks.

How happy they both smiled and how light they felt at heart as they enjoyed each other's company without thinking of tomorrow.

But now, she is so hurt and sad seeing Jon disappearing in front of him, "Those things we talked about, they are still not done yet, finish those things we never completed before."

"I won't ever forget you; I promise," Samantha told him as she gave him a last kiss watching his body faint into the sky.

"Samantha, remember as long as you live, and even when I'm not going to be living those dreams with you," he paused for a moment as he is beginning to be choked up in emotions, "that I love you."

Saying that last word, she watches as Jon's body disappears in front of her, and only the faint echo of his previous words remains.

It was like something was taken from her heart, but she didn't feel as sad because inside, she made a promise to complete those dreams as she promised him.

She takes her eyes above as she watches the clear sky above with the sun shining light upon the field.

Later, after his disappearance, Samantha finds out with surprise that Jon had given her all his wealth and real estate under his name.

Many years after his disappearance, Samantha would abide by their dreams when they were together and traveled worldwide.

And Samantha has also written down the story between them, which became a bestseller that sold like a wildfire spreading into many dozen languages.

She never forgot him, nor the dreams that they shared.

After finding himself disappearing right in front of her, Jon arrives back at the empty void he was in before his death from getting hit by the car.

"I thought I would be dead," Jon said with a humbling attitude, "for selling my soul to the devil."

He hears a voice returning to him saying, "Well, I'm not the devil, and of course, it was just the last test to see whether you would be a suitable host for the system."

"Well, it is good that I made the right decision," Jon spoke with his quiet voice but regaining his composure after departing from his last world.

"You seem like you have grown a lot since beginning the task," Death's voice utters again from the emptiness of the void, "it is important that you can remain nonattached to the results upon completion of a task."

Jon takes a deep breath, "Well, it was sad to go; simultaneously, I was prepared to do what I needed to do and knowing that I had to let go eventually at one point."

"Are you ready to take on the second task?"

Jon could see a ball of light floating towards him, "Already so soon? I feel like I just went through a depressing breakup, and now I have to do it again."

[Memory Fragment Detected]

Looking at the fragment of light floating gracefully, he breathes a deep sigh and then reaches his hand out to the glass fragment as it merges into one with his body.

Through a union with the light fragment, Jon discovered in his mind the memory of another person from childhood till late adulthood.

In that memory, the individual had the same name and appearance as him, except in this universe, the individual worked as a butler in a billionaire's household.

At a young age, he was adopted by the family.

He was explicitly trained on service to the wealthy family, giving him a basic understanding of skills to service the family like cooking, housekeeping, medical aid, and even a little bit of marksmanship.

According to his memory, the family had one girl who was similar to his age, and they had done a lot of things together throughout their childhood.

He was always a servant by her side to aid her, a friend when needed, a mentor when she was encountering difficulties, or a brother when she needed someone to look up to.

Besides this, he noticed that those memories' timeline seems to exist in the late 1940s, with people dressed in those formal clothes belonging to that era.

And after absorbing this fragment, Jon finds his mental ability to be sharper than before and could think and react faster and remember more details than he had encountered in his life.

The person in the memory is him, and it feels no different than his own experience.

And beyond the recognization of Jon, his aura is more filled with an air of professionalism and even giving him the mental change of making him calm and composed even under the heaviest situational pressure.

"Interesting," Jon said to himself, "so she must be the person I'm responsible for helping to complete a wish this time."

"That's correct," Death answered back.
