“It’s Lecturer Merrin and Zoe!” I heard Luci’s shrill voice and suddenly realised that I must have been on speaker phone. Under normal circumstances, I might have taken a pause to say hello and tell her how much I was missing them both, but right now all I wanted was information.
“What is it? Are they alright?”
“That depends on your definition of alright,” Keeya huffed into the phone, and I got the distinct impression that she was under an immense amount of stress. Tell me about it.
“Would you just tell me what the hell is going on?” I demanded. I hated it when people beat around the bush.
“The witch council have arrested them for crimes against she-who-shall-not-be-named!” Luci blurted, and I felt my entire body turn to ice.
I didn’t need to ask to know who she meant. We’d all been careful about using the Grand Priestess’s name for fear that she might somehow be listening in.
“Don’t worry!” I snapped into the phone. “I’m on my way!”
