Chapter 46

“Lone wolves don’t do well on their own, and most packs eradicate them from their territory before they can cause a problem,” Archer added.

“Well, I’m not leaving London. Grandma needs me,” Mathew sighed, and I felt him beginning to deflate next to me. My grip tightened on his fingers, and I felt him squeeze me back.

A well of sadness opened up inside me at the thought of Grandma Joan all alone with that huge store to maintain all by herself. Mathew was right, she needed him. It wasn’t like I could go back in his place.

“Then it looks like you’ll be coming with me.” Anders only half-smiled as if the thought of integrating a new wolf into his pack wasn’t exactly a good one.

Mathew’s grip loosened, and he began to shift as if he was going to leave.

“You don’t have to do this,” I protested and pulled his hand back into mine. “We can find another way.”

I definitely didn’t like the idea of him being thrown into the middle of an entire pack of wolves.
