6 The Spirit [6]

Running her hands through her hair, all she could think about was the fact that there was a living conscious being inside her, not a thoughtless animal like most summons, but what was practically another person.

A voice sounded in her head rather than coming seemingly from the air around her,

` ` To think of me only as another person in practicality is offensive. ` `

" YOUR IN MY THOUGHTS AS-WELL? ", she dragged her hands across her face, getting more tired by the minute.

` ` We have been together for so long, what is there to be embarrassed about? ` `

Regaining her calm composure she couldn't help but still let out a sigh, " So what? Even a married couple doesn't go around knowing each others thoughts, having no privacy is what some would call invasive. "

` ` Yes, but why would that matter? We are bound together by the contract, even if I wanted to, I couldn't kill you without dying myself. ` `

" Wait? So you can still kill me? " ,

` ` The contract only says that you cant intentionally harm me, you have already felt the mana that flows throughout you due to me, it would be as simple as expanding even a few centimeters and your soul would be shredded, but as the contract says, I would die immediately after you died. ` `

This back and forth about possible situations where one could take advantage of the contracts terms went on for hours, and to her shock, the Spirit willingly answered everything with as far as she could tell, honesty.

" So, all I have to do is help you out, and I can use you like any average Contracted Beast? " , ` ` If that's how you wish to use my abilities, then I am willing to fight under your command, but as you've mentioned, only if you help me. ` `

She couldn't help but be joyful, the fear of her younger days was long gone, she well understood that everyone she knew died due to this spirit, but in the end, she could only remember her mother and father, and even then, they were only distant memories, even if she didn't realize it, studying magic alone for two years had dulled her emotions a tad.

But she clearly remembered the power of the Spirit, just its birth caused weeks of a unprecedented snowstorm, she clearly remembered stories from her master, and she knew that even he wasn't very Confident in being able to kill the Spirit.

" Alright.. then what do I need to help you with? Do you want to become a real boy, learn human emotions, dance under the stars, learn the meaning of life, have a family? "

she immediately got up and started grabbing books off the shelf,

" Master has collected a lot of books on Ice magic, he also has a lot of books on potions, and even magical beasts. "

` ` Going off my memories of that day and through general knowledge on spirits you have acquired, I assume you know that I am already more proficient than your master in pure control of the elements surrounding the generalization of ' Ice ' ` `

` `I have no use for potions, that I know of, but I guess it would be useful, and a encyclopedia of magical beasts would help us both. ` `

" What do you mean help us both? " She said while collecting the books into her arms.

` ` Well you don't plan on staying here forever do you? ` ` , she remembered what the butler had said to her two years ago at this moment and sighed, feeling a slight hint of despair,

" Yeah… I guess I do have to leave at some point, I cant be like Brutus and stay here with master forever. "

` ` We don't have to leave in the immediate future, I would prefer for us to stay for as long as needed to get our best use out of the conveniences of this place. ` `

" Hah… alright, for being a ` high-ranking ` spirit, you would think you would be more concise with your words. "

` ` I will make an effort to be more concise in the future. ``, she just laughed off his remark and started heading off to read these books with the Spirit.

But before she even sat down she had a huge question, " Wait how are you going to read? I cant even read anymore without Brutus reading it out to me. " She couldn't help but let out another sigh, thinking that it was no thanks to the spirit that she couldn't read.

` ` Summon me, you've already stated that you are glad to treat me like a normal Contracted Beast, and I am willing to be summoned. ` `

She almost entirely forgot due to its ability to think for itself that she could just summon it,

" Oh yeah~! … How do I do that? "

She couldn't help but think that she heard a faint sight in the back of her mind.

` ` Just feel around your soul for our contract and send mana into it. ` `

She felt that it was simple enough and started circulating her mana towards her gravitational center, and the moment mana touched her soul, it immediately disappeared into it, all she could feel was a cold chill throughout her body, it was as if a part of nature itself was being called into the room.

The cracks in windows and doors of the tower were used as a passageway for the never-ending snow outside flew in, like each flake was being guided by a will of its own, the snow quickly went through the stairwell and blew the door of the research room open.

The girl was shocked by the large bang of the door opening, as the cold snow and the breeze carrying it flew past her face converging next to her, slowly forming a man made of snow and the cold mana coming out from her center.

But before she could even get a word in, the door that had already been banged open seemed to be shot off its hinges, as an old man in robes followed by a young man rushed into the room.
