Chapter 58: First Mission went BRRRRR~

The moment they arrive, the first thing that they see is the village being covered by a very thick mist, which Noelle believes was created by magic.

Magna asks Asta to cut it, which the idiot did only after he remembered that the mist was magical and his sword could cut through it. Asta takes out his anti-magic sword after being convinced that his sword is able to cut any form of magic and slashed the layer of mist shrouding the village.

With the mist gone, they witness the villagers gathered at the center of the village with dozens of sharp icicles floating above them and a voice counting down on their execution.

Magna rushes in and fires off a burst of scattering shot flame magic to destroy the icicles. He then finds out that the old man who made the request has already died, killed by the men before him.

Pointing at the group of mages nearby, demanding answers. The leader of the intruders, Heath Grice simply ignores him while being irritated by Magna's interference in his timely execution. He was sitting on the broken wall as he took one last look before him and launches another attack on the villagers and the Black Bulls who were guarding them.

Depleted of his magical power, Magna is not capable of retaliating but Asta manages to step in and cut the huge block of ice in half and saves all of them. But before he could say anything to the intruders, Aster stepped in, "you, who were blessed with the element of ice dare to profane it by committing such lowly acts, let me teach you why men fear the winter."

With each step Aster took toward the man, the temperature dropped and a monstrous mana pressure bore down on the man clad in white, the latter buckled on his knees and fell to the ground with a horrified look on his face, as his eyes revealed the most primal instinct of any creature alive, FEAR...

"Don't come near me, you... you MONSTER! The man tried to cast a spell but it was like ice itself was unresponsive to him, and what's more, it felt hostile... If someone had told him that the ice that he conjured could turn hostile towards him, he would have pierced the man or rather laugh it away.

He felt like his worst nightmare came to life, but this was not a nightmare. It was the harsh reality that gave him a crisp cold slap, walking him up to feel the despair in its entirety. He could feel the chill creeping up his spine as the cold air froze his limbs, he could feel his fingers freezing, but he could not move nor scream.

It was like he was frozen on the spot as the ice slowly devoured him bit...by...bit... The other intruders that accompanied him were restrained by shackles of ice that bound them to the ground and none dared to move a muscle.

The villagers who saw the leader of the intruders being tortured felt that it was a judgment from the heavens for taking the life of the old man from their village. Noelle, who had perceived Aster as a kind and easy-going person who was a little bit of a foodie was shocked to her core, her mental images of Aster shattered like glass as she saw the man freeing someone who slowly tortured his captive.

The leader of the intruders was frozen into a statue while the others no longer had the guts to resist anymore and were easily arrested. Magna who was familiar with the old man, killed by the intruders, stood by the body and shed tears of remembrance, and stood up gritting his teeth.

Aster stood before the now-frozen leader and whispered, "be a kind soul the next time you live as a man." He walked back to the others while a shattering sound greeted them, Aster shrugged his shoulders and kept walking without turning back, while Magna who shattered the leader's frozen corpse was kneeling with tears running down his cheeks.

Asta stepped in to console him, while Noelle tried to do the same and royally failed at her attempt to console the depressed Yankee. Suddenly, an anti-bird appears from Asta's robe and flies away towards one of the villager's houses where it finds a magic stone with the symbol of a crescent moon and three four-pointed stars on it.

The bird then takes the stone, returns to Asta's side, and starts pecking Asta on the head until he catches the stone. Noticing the stone in its beak, Asta tries to return the stone, which had belonged to the old man who turned out to be the village's chief, the villagers decide to give it to him as a sign of gratitude.

Unbeknownst to Asta, Noelle has been the anti-bird and has become enamored by the anti-bird's behavior. Asta is still being chased around by the anti-bird which keeps pecking on his head, while Noelle, who has been following them, quickly offers herself as the bird's companion in an effort to take it from Asta.

They then notice two children are standing in front of a grave which they learn to be the grave of the chief of Sosshi village and one of the children is his grandson, Nick. The boy then spoke about his grandfather's past ambition of becoming a Magic Knight.

His grandfather, the village chief had regretted not participating in one of the Magic Knights entrance exams as he had decided to focus on working at the village.

Nick asked if someone from the Forsaken Region like him could really enter the ranks of the Magic Knights. Asta replies to the hopeful boy that he is of the same status as Nick to prove the possibility of a peasant becoming a Magic Knight and even a Wizard King and that it was his dream to be the Wizard King and encourages Nick to work hard in order to achieve his goal.

After completing their mission in Sosshi, the four Black Bull members return to the headquarters and are greeted by Yami and Vanessa.

Vannessa reveals that the Magic Forensic Division has begun their investigation, although they have not found any clues regarding their affiliation just yet. Subsequently, Yami informs them that the Magic Emperor has bestowed them with a star for Magna, Asta, and Noelle's excellent performance.

The additional star puts the Black Bull squad on a 100-star difference with the top squad, the Golden Dawn. Yami also distributes the members' salaries, and Asta is completely excited with his first earned money while Noelle is not amazed by the amount she received.

"So, now that you guys have your first payment, we can go to the common realm for some shopping and sightseeing. Maybe a date somewhere along those lines, what do you say handsome?" Vannessa winked at Aster flirtatiously while the latter only smiled and vanished from where he was sitting.

This shocked the people sitting in the room but Yami on the other hand just took a drag from his cigarette and chuckled, "Oh, the icy-brat seems to have a lot of aces hidden up his sleeves."

"Why does he ignore my attempts to get close to him, am I not pretty enough? or is he just shy before this big sister?" Vannessa folded her arms and huffed and her assets that were already curvy enough were now lifted and her being in her lingerie was not helping on that part.

The sight left Finral and Magna holding their noses and the innocent Noelle blushing like a tomato. Asta on the other hand was not the least affected by the treat that Vannessa was and simply spoke with his hands under his chin, "I think he already has someone he likes..."
