Chapter 28

The engagement was moved because of my abduction. Helian blamed himself for being too careless, but I already calmed him down. The next day, our house became crowded. The old general ordered his people to take a shift and guard our house. I believe it was too much, however, Helian told me that it's normal since I'll soon be a wife of a general. I should get used to it before I entered Gabriel's house.

"Why are you always visiting me?" I asked Helian as I delivered my self-made tea

We are now having our leisure in our garden. Helian never stops bothering me and some servants thought that my husband is Helian. He didn't even deny it. He said familiarity and affection are needed in marriage. He told me that he is Gabriel's proxy and I should be thanking him because he accompanies me. How wonderful, isn't it? Gabriel had been busy with his work, thus he can't visit me while his twin traveled carefreely anywhere he wants to go.

"It was an order by the general" he jested

"Don't fool around" I narrowed my eyes

"It's the truth! My brother ordered me to report to him about your daily routine" he said

"That should be tiring for you" I spoke

"No, It's fulfilling seeing my brother's jealousy because I can eat your cooking while his eating those inks and papers on his desk" he chuckled

"Is that so, my dear twin brother?" Gabriel asked

I can't help myself but laugh as I saw Helian's face turned pale. Gabriel was there all this time and he didn't even feel his gaze on his back. Helian fell in his chair and waved at his brother.

"Brother Gabe, I think I should be going now. I remembered my mother told me to buy something. See you around" he spoke and waved goodbye

"Welcome back" I smiled

"It's nice to see you smile again" he uttered

"Will it disturb your work? The distance between your camp and here is troublesome. Have you eaten? I'll prepare something. Wait for me" I said excitedly and ran without waiting for his answer

I heated our food because it will take too long if I cook new ones. I hope it's not a big deal, besides I guess he's starving. He's quite thinner today than before. I asked for some maids help and delivered it to the garden just to find out my father was talking to him. They stopped talking and looked at me.

"My princess prepared all of this? I'm envious. How come I didn't get special treatment when I return home from business trips?" my father asked

"Dad, you're spoiled by mom. Don't act like you're younger than me" I frowned and he just laughed

"My daughter is pushing me away. Ah! She'll miss me anymore" he joked

"You know that's impossible" I replied

Dad left us in the garden and I watched Gabriel ate. It's already lunch, he should be hungry.

"Why are you dazing out?" he asked when he caught me glancing

"If we get married and lived in the same house, will you still wear that mask?" I asked

"If you don't wish, I will compromise"

"Why do you speak formally when I try to get closer? Don't you want us to have some affection?"

"I speak this way and I didn't know it irritates you. I will try my best to change it" he responded

"Your like a slave that's following orders instead of a lover trying to please me" I mumbled

"My apologies..."

"Stop it. I told you not to be sorry nor to thank me every time" I said and pouted

I leaned on the table and stared at him. He's watching me carefully before he stood up and held my hands. He invited me to stand and he fixed my hair. I felt cold in my neck as I realized his putting a necklace in it.

"I found it when we went to take patrol in one of the shops. It reminded me of you and I bought it"

"Thank you," I said and smiled

"I guess that we're fair enough. I apologized and you thank me. Will that suffice?" he asked and grinned

"Hey! that's not fair!" I exclaimed when I understood where this conversation is going which made him laugh

I hugged him. Will there be more memories like this? I hope so. I didn't expect that a shut-in princess like me will have an opportunity to be with him. It's fortunate for me to deserve this kind of man who's sweet and loving in his way. It's working. It's working if my feelings right now are what they call love.
