Chapter 28; Promises

Chapter 28

Anita sat with her tea in her hands, stirred the sugar cubes she had added. The room turned dark as a smile overtook her face, it seemed it was done. There was no Winter in the picture any longer and her plans could progress the way she had wanted. The room turned dark indicating the presence of her Shadow.

"You have succeeded I, see?" she said with a grin

"Master, rid ... of… it…not" it said

Taken by surprise Anita almost choked on her tea, "what do you mean?!" she demanded hastily.

The Shadow, panted heavily, "Master, no… Energy, Shadow will… go... For now," it said as the room lit up yet again.

Anita, bit at her nails in utter shock and confusion, there was no way Winter could survive or fight against something like a Shadow. Had the prince saved her? Just why was she so damn luck? In anger Anita picked up her teacup and threw it across the room. The loud noise caused her doors to open her handmaid rushing in in panic.

"M-my lady, what is the matter?" she questioned as he observed the room for any danger that may be present or be threatening towards her mistress.

"It's nothing at all, just get out," Anita said coldly.

"B-but my lady-"

"Did I stutter? I SAID GET OUT!" Anita yelled out, as her handmaid in fear rushed out closing the door behind her.

"Winter Azalea Vera Le Monroe, I will end you." Anita muttered out in anger.

3 days later

A soft breeze blew through the curtain as sunlight shone radiantly on her face, a hand caressed her as blood red eyes stared down at her with a guilty look. She hadn't woken up in three days and it was starting to become worrisome. Though his father had told him that she was going to be okay when he had asked, here she was still lying-in bed.

He had snuck in making sure he wasn't caught. He couldn't be seen by other's that was the rule Zachary had given him. His existence was limited to that of the west wing of the palace. But when it came to her he couldn't sit in one place and always sought her out like a toddler. He hadn't realized it till recently, and in honesty, he didn't feel ashamed of doing so.

If only he had acted fast enough, maybe she wouldn't had been in this state. To think he was way over his head thinking he was strong enough to protect his mother, but in actual fact he was still a child, a little powerless boy at that.

Sighing he brushed the little hairs from her face as white as snow, tinted with pink, at least she was no longer pale and regained color to her face, she breathed lightly as her chest heaved up and down in a slow melody.

"I promise to become stronger, "Azef whispered with determination. He was no longer going to allow himself to be orphaned. If it meant laying his life for hers, he would.

When had he started loving her as his family? He did not know, but he did not regret it. It was a nice feeling, a warm feeling in fact, that bubbled deep within him.

But Azef was not aware of the actual reason Winter had entered the palace, in fact no one had known except Zachary, but he believed in his father, and believed under his care, there would be no harm that would come to Winter. But that belief had some doubt seep through which he had ignored and later would wish he had not.

My body felt stiff down to the bone. I shuffled slightly with little effect seeing as it felt as though I was almost paralyzed. I blinked open my heavy eyes, the sun shone brightly blinding me. How long was I asleep for? All I could remember was the pain of having my oxygen supply cut off before a burning sensation had risen in me. What was that thing that attacked me? I shivered slightly, so much for not dying.

Was it really my fate to die? Were the gods playing some trick on me, warning me to stop ruining their plans? Huhuhu, but what am I supposed to do, you can't expect to give me a chance and let the past replay, that certainly was not fair. I shuffled slightly and turned my head to the window. There Zachary stood, lost in thought almost. My heart thumped at the sight before me. Was he…worried about me?

For the past 10 years, the feeling of being loved or worried about was certainly something I hadn't come across since I was abandoned by my mother. The Monroe residence was my hell and continued to be so until my death. Anita being the cause of it all. I felt my blood boil slightly thinking of it. I just had to be patient. It wasn't time yet, I needed to get my revenge as perfectly as possible, otherwise it wouldn't be revenge but my idiocy of getting myself killed again. She was scheming and very calculative, but I was a step ahead. I could do it.

The wind blew yet again bringing me out of my thoughts. I shivered slightly catching Zachary's attention as he turned around alarmed. His eyes locked with mine, and for a moment it was as though I saw relief in them, but it passed by so quickly, it seemed almost as though my mind was hallucinating.

"you're awake," he said. His voice sending sparks down my back, it was as though I hadn't heard that voice in forever.

With a smile on my face, I felt my face heat up slightly, "yes," I replied. He seemed quite taken aback for some reason as he cleared his throat, rubbing the back of his head.

"Y-You should rest some more," he said

"But it felt as though I had been sleeping for eternity though it was just a single day," I said as I sat up with my body aching.

"You have been out for 3 days," Zachary said.

"Oh, I see 3 day- wait, THREE DAYS?!" I questioned in surprise.

What?

How long has it been? 3 Months? 4?
