24 Rescue Operation

"My friend, my friends, and their child are in danger! We must aid them!"

*Ba thump* *Ba thump* *Ba thump x100*

For a moment, Lewis' mind was clouded with nothing but the echoing beating of his heart. It was so loud — louder than a bass in high volume — it deafened him temporarily.

"My friend!" Devon squeezed his hands tightly, tugging it. Her action snapped him back to reality.

"Uh." He blinked, his gaze falling to their hands. "Sure. Let's help them."

Before he could think, Lewis agreed. Upon hearing his answer, her eyes brightened up in relief.

"Really?" Her eyes twinkled like a child receiving her first toy.

He looked up, sighing helplessly at the sight of her. "Really."

"Thank you!" She expressed sincerely. "Let's go!"

Determined, Devon let go of his hands and prompted to go out as if she was about to save the world. With no plans or any of the sort, Devon thought she'd figure it out on the way.

There's a child involved. Therefore, she shouldn't hesitate and waste time on planning. The drama ended when the mother and child got cornered by their enemy. And when someone shot at them, the father came in and took the shot.

It was a dire situation. A very dire situation.

Just as Devon stomped her way towards the door, she was stopped. Lewis hooked his fingers in the back neckline of her loose shirt.

"Where do you think you're going?" He asked.

Devon cocked her head back. "We must hasten. The child is in danger."

"Uh… really." A sigh slipped past his lips as he couldn't believe himself he was playing along. But deep down, he knew he would still play along, even if he was in the right state of mind.

"Let's —" When Devon attempted to take a step forward, Lewis tugged her back a little.

"We don't need to go out. There's another way."

"Huh?" She instantly furrowed her brows, blinking at him.

"It's more effective. Trust me." Lewis reassured with a faint sigh. But he was serious. There was, indeed, a more effective way to help Devon.

At first, Devon hesitated. However, as she stared at him, she nodded and trusted him. Lewis knew this kingdom well more than her, after all.

"Alright. I trust you."

After stating so, Devon calmed down and took a step back. At the same time, Lewis let her go and fished out his phone from his pocket.

Just as he did, he trudged towards the couch nonchalantly while speed-dialing his assistant, Derek. As he plopped down, Devon followed him and perched beside him.

It took three rings before the line connected.

"Yes, young master?" As soon as the line connected, a stern voice of a man welcomed Lewis' ears.

Out of curiosity and utter worry, Devon aggressively perked up. She leaned in, trying to eavesdrop on their conversation.

"Tsk." Instinctively, Lewis clicked his tongue, and he inched away from her.

But she was persistent. Devon held his wrist as she closed in, her ears against the back of his hand that was holding his phone.

This time, Lewis' face only sported an annoyed face. His heart kept pounding against his chest, but the culprit couldn't even read the air.

"Young master?" Derek called out once again, a little confused.

"Send me the contact number of the managers of the stars in…" Lewis paused as he recalled the name of the drama. He had seen it earlier.

"… She used to be mine."

"Young master?" Confused at this abrupt and non sense order, Derek called out. His tone was obviously puzzled, as if he understood nothing Lewis just said.

"The contact numbers of the managers of the leading stars in the drama: She used to be mine. Send them to me right now." Lewis ordered in one go, stressing each word so his assistant could understand.

"Oh…" Although Derek understood it, he didn't understand the motive.

"And inform them to expect my call." Lewis added. His tone, however, had a gradual change, as if the consequences would be dire if his call didn't go through.

"Yes, young master. But, may I know the reason for this?"

"Reason?" Lewis arched his brow, glancing at the curious cat eavesdropping beside him. "I can't turn my back on the people in need, can I?"

"???" The answer Derek heard rendered him speechless. Lewis had often rendered him speechless, but not in this way.

"Do it now. I need it as soon as possible. And when I say as soon as possible, I mean as soon as possible." Lewis stated solemnly before cutting the line short.

Derek shuddered upon noticing Lewis' tone before ending the call. It was a threat not just for his life, but also for those people involved. Careers were on the line.

Once the call ended, Lewis instantly drew away from her as if she was a disease. Seeing his action made her furrow her brows and tilt her head to the side.

"How are they?" She asked, not dwelling on his actions just now.

"I asked someone for help. They should be fine now." Still keeping his distance, Lewis cleared his throat as he sat comfortably on the corner of the couch.

"Oh? That soon?" Not convinced, Devon pursed her lips.

She didn't want to question him, afraid she would sound rude. He's already helping her, after all. Still, it worried her.

"I will call them to make sure." He sighed, shaking his head helplessly.

"Huh?"

"Your friends. I will call them just to be sure." Lewis massaged his shoulders as he stretched his neck in a circular motion. "So, don't worry anymore. Let's wait for now."

It took her several seconds to process his words. Lewis sounded so reliable that soothed her worry even just a bit.

"Alright." She nodded, waiting patiently for good news.

As she behaved herself, staring at her fingers on her lap, Lewis shook his head lightly.

'This is ridiculous…' He grumbled internally, burying his face in his palm. His ear burning in red.

'It's embarrassing... but she's so damn cute.'
