32 Can you show me the world?

"You're up early, my friend." Devon rolled around the soft blanket as it cozied her up. It was too soft and warm, perfect for the temperature of the room.

Upon hearing her, Lewis snapped back to his senses. Instinctively, he sprung up to his feet.

"Huh?" Devon paused, raising her brows as she gazed at him.

In her eyes, he seemed a little flustered again… or just uncomfortable. Either way, Devon didn't jump to a conclusion.

Lewis held his nape, clearing his throat while avoiding her gaze.

"Are you hungry?" He asked, casting her a brief glance.

Devon furrowed her brows. But her mind pondered over his question.

"Hmm… yes!"

"I'll make breakfast then." Lewis nodded as he immediately walked away; without waiting for her to speak further. More like escaping.

Devon tilted her head as she watched him shut the door closed. Her lips pressed together, thrusting her lower lip forward.

"He seemed restless. I wonder why…?" She murmured but didn't dwell on it.

Devon rolled around under the sheet. The bed was enormous enough for her to express her glee from waking up as Devon Lin again.

While Devon jest upon waking up as Devon, Lewis leaned his back against the door. His eyes wide open, mind-boggled as the image of her morning smile flashed before his eyes.

"A dagger can be concealed as a smile." He mumbled a proverb, as that was what her smile reminded him.

It means beware of the kiss of death. His heart was racing, he felt like it would explode.

Lewis patted his chest, nodding encouragingly. 'Is my health deteriorating again?' He wondered.

Just then, Lewis heard the sound of the main door unlocking, and soon opened. Lewis stretched his neck to see who it was.

"Oh, Young Master Qin." When the old lady saw Lewis, she immediately bowed.

"I didn't know you'd be here."

For a moment, Lewis scanned the old lady from head to toe. As he did, he remembered who she was.

It was the cleaner Derek hired who would come in here several times a week. If not for this lady, dust and spider webs had already invaded this place since Devon was the laziest.

"I'll be staying here for a while." Lewis informed her, offering a subtle smile as he cleared his throat.

"Have you had breakfast? I can…"

"I'll make it. But, maybe, I need a little help." Lewis raised his brows.

"Of course, young master. I will gladly help."

With that being said, the two headed to the kitchen. Honestly, Lewis didn't need her help. He wanted to make breakfast for Devon.

He asked her to help for another reason.

The old lady prepared everything that Lewis needed. Meanwhile, he just watched her; arms crossed, propping against the kitchen counter.

"It's my first time meeting you, is it?" Lewis broke their silence.

She turned her head to him and beckoned a slight bow. "Yes, young master."

That's because Lewis would leave early. He's not the man of leisure who would stay idle after waking up.

"I see." Lewis nodded in understanding.

Again, silence dawned upon them as the lady cleaner washed the ingredients silently. Lewis tapped his fingers against his elbow lightly.

"How was your experience here so far? Mrs...?" He asked, out of curiosity.

This woman had been working here for eight months. Thus, she must've known Devon a lot. Although Lewis was unsure if she had heard about Devon's current predicament.

"Su, Agnes Su, young master Qin." The lady looked back briefly before continuing to wash the ingredients. "My experience here is good, young master. Miss Lin is a great person."

She didn't know what was Lewis and Devon's relationship exactly.

After all, Devon mentioned nothing about it. Thus, the old lady could only assume that Devon was Lewis' hidden mistress.

Well, no one could really blame her. Lewis and Devon's setup just appeared like that to others.

"Is she?" Lewis raised his brow higher. "How so?"

"Miss Lin, she…"

"Be honest, ma'am." Before she could continue, Lewis adamantly uttered.

"Uh, yes, young master." She glanced back again and bowed. For her, Lewis' presence was intimidating, especially for a first meeting.

Hence, she understood she had to report everything. Or else Lewis might replace her without batting an eye.

"Miss Lin might be sometimes strange." She paused and bit her tongue. Seeing that Lewis didn't react strongly gave her confidence.

She cleared her throat and continued. "But overall, she's considerate and very kind. She always locks herself in her room, so it sometimes worries me. She also eats very little since she's very engrossed with her stories."

As she described and recalled Devon's action, the Agnes could not help but smile. She grew more confident and continued.

"She's very dedicated and passionate to the stories she writes she forgets to eat. It actually worries me when she asked me not to make her anything since she ends up wasting them. It still guilts me until now when I heard Miss Lin fainted." She sighed as her eyes flickered with guilt.

"I advised her to get some sun at least, but she doesn't listen to me. Sometimes, whenever I see her sad..."

"What?" Alarmed, Lewis furrowed his brows. "When was she sad? And why?"

"I, uh… yes."

"Why? When? How come?" He asked almost instantly.

Agnes gazed down with guilt. She took a deep breath and turned around. This time, she mustered her courage and faced Lewis.

"Miss Lin never says the reason, young master Qin. Whenever I asked her, she just says its nothing."

This struck Lewis; as if someone stabbed him directly in his chest. He couldn't believe how he had neglected her.

Knowing Devon, there must be a reason. Devon never showed the other sides of her in front of him.

"Young master Qin, I know it's not my place to say this. But, Miss Lin is a really lovable girl and really cares for you a lot. She always stares at your poster whenever I call her." Agnes' breath hitched, recalling the time Devon was just mindlessly staring at Lewis' poster.

"She... Miss Lin just probably misses you, young master Qin."

Yes. That's Agnes' conclusion.

After all, Devon and Lewis relationship wasn't normal. Lewis only came at night; only a few times a week at that. Even if Devon was his mistress, he shouldn't neglect her like this.

"She does that...?" This conclusion rendered him speechless.

For reasons unknown, Lewis was convinced that wasn't the case. Still, this information felt like a thousand needles pricking his heart. Even though their relationship was odd and he believed there're no emotions involved, he could not help but wonder.

What could be the treason for her to feel sad? And why did she not tell him? Devon often acted differently in front of him.

"So, please, young master Qin. Take care of Miss Lin more." Agnes expressed sincerely with a bow.

"Yes..." He gazed down, letting out a heavy sigh. It frustrated him, confused him, while guilt consumed him slowly.

He wished to ask her about it. But she had lost her memories. How could she remember if she couldn't even remember her own identity?

"Damn it." Lewis grumbled through his gritted teeth, running his fingers through his hair.

When he raised his gaze, he asked. "Do you know what food she likes?"

Agnes' face brightened up upon hearing Lewis' words. In her heart, she cheered for Devon's happiness from now on.

"Yes, young master Qin!"

With that being said, Lewis and the lady cleaner, Agnes, prepared a breakfast. Lewis did all the cooking. While Lewis busied himself, Agnes prepared the table.

However, before she could do so, Lewis stopped her.

"I'll take it to her." Lewis informed her, making her smile.

"Yes, young master." Happy for Devon, Agnes just did her cleaning duties.

When Lewis finished, he served everything on a tray. Staring at the dishes on the tray made him wonder.

"Is this enough?" He clicked his tongue. "Well, I'll just feed her again if she wants more."

So, he carefully walked towards the bedroom, carrying a tray of food like a doting husband.

Once he opened the door and entered, Devon raised her head. She was wrapped around the thick blanket like a burrito.

"Haha. What are you doing?" He asked, along with a chuckle. Walking inside, and then placed the tray on the bedside table.

He didn't know what was she was so happy about, but that's better than being sad. Lewis might not know the actual reasons she'd been sad before. But deep down, he knew he was at fault, too.

Thus, he promised himself he wouldn't let that happen again.

Devon wouldn't be sad again. And he wouldn't neglect her even if they ended up just being good friends.

"My friend!" Devon grinned. "Can you show me the world?"

Lewis smiled, placing his palm on her head. Slowly, he bent down.

"Anything for you, my lady."
