2 Chapter 2

Starting a new chapter in my academic journey, I recently entered my new high school. As I stepped through the entrance, I was filled with a mix of excitement and nervous anticipation. I was eager to explore the uncharted territory that lay ahead, the corridors buzzing with the energy of enthusiastic students and knowledgeable teachers. Little did I know, my new high school would become a place of immense personal growth and endless opportunities.

Upon entering the school, a warm and welcoming atmosphere engulfed me. The staff and teachers greeted me with genuine smiles, ready to guide and support me in my educational pursuits. I instantly felt a sense of belonging, knowing that I was part of a community that valued each student's potential and aspirations.

My new high school not only offers a range of academic courses but also provides countless extracurricular activities to suit every interest and talent. As I perused the activity boards and attended orientation sessions, I discovered a multitude of clubs, sports teams, and organizations that intrigued me. From the robotics club to the debate team, from the newspaper committee to the art club, there was something for everyone. This diverse range of extracurriculars allows students to explore their passions, develop new skills, and forge everlasting friendships.

What sets my new high school apart is its commitment to experiential learning. Besides traditional classroom instruction, it offers opportunities for field trips, community service projects, and internships. Lastly, my new high school is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge technology, creating an environment conducive to learning and growth. The spacious classrooms, well-equipped labs, and modern library offer the perfect environment for academic exploration. The technological advancements, such as smart boards and online learning platforms, enhance our educational experience, providing us with the necessary tools to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

As I navigate through the halls of the high school, I encounter an individual who possesses an impressive stature, fair complexion, captivating black eyes, rosy lips, a well-defined nose, and a neatly pressed uniform. He inquires about my presence, and his voice resonates like an echo, captivating my senses. I am able to perceive the sweetness of his voice, which induces a quickened heartbeat within me.

Initially, I am unable to respond but eventually gather the courage to confirm my identity. 'Yes, it is I,' I answer.

'And who might you be?' he queries.

'I am Ummi,' I reply, attempting to ascertain his location.

In a moment of carelessness, I collide with him, causing my steps to falter and almost leading to a fall. However, he promptly supports me by placing his hand on my waist, drawing us closer together. As I stare into his eyes, a refreshingly cool breeze engulfs me, evoking a shiver. Subsequently, he realizes his physical contact and releases his grip.

'I apologize,' he expresses remorse.

'It was not a problem,' I reassure him, shifting away from his side.

'My name is Omar,' he introduces himself.

Before I can utter a response, I witness him departing, and I find myself gazing at his silhouette as he gracefully fades into the distance.

'Who is he?' I ponder within myself, surveying my surroundings.

Ummi navigated her way to the classroom, carefully stepping inside. Upon entering, she noticed that the gazes of her peers were fixed upon her. Maintaining her composure, she simply looked down and positioned herself beside the board. It didn't take long for the teacher to make an appearance.

"Greetings, everyone. We have a new student," he announced.

A murmur of conversation arose from the students.

"Please introduce yourself," he directed towards Ummi.

"Good day, everyone. I am Ummi Isah, and I hope to establish harmonious relationships with all of you," she uttered.

"She will be joining our class due to her recent transfer to this school," the teacher informed.

"What a pitiful creature," remarked a student.

"What gives you the audacity to speak to me in such a manner? I am here to acquire knowledge, and so are you. If you believe money can buy you an education, then perhaps you should remain at home," Ummi retorted.

The entire class erupted in applause, acknowledging her confident response.

"Please take a seat in the middle," the teacher instructed.

"Thank you, sir," she graciously replied.

"Excuse me, class," he excused himself as he departed.

Ummi settled into her seat, her mind filled with thoughts about the individuals she encountered at the school, wondering which class she would be assigned to. Other students continued to gaze in her direction.

Others stared at her as she enjoyed the silent atmosphere in the class. She looked around the class. She notices that some of them sit like in a group but just ignore them while placing her head on the desk waiting for the next teacher.

As time rolled into seconds, seconds roll into minutes, minutes rolled into hour, the time for break came, students rushed out at the sound of the bell, some went to the school canteen as usual while others hung around in places like the school field, and school gardening.

Ummie remained in the class, since she is not used to the environment, she picked up a novel to keep herself busy.

A guy entered the class without any moves, he just went to his seat at the back of her. After a while of silence between them he said hi.
