Heavens' Response

Buzz…

With the thought of finding a farm filled with animals to satiate his hunger coming to mind, the young mosquito went ahead and started to head in a random direction as he had no clue where such a farm would be. Fortunately, just as he was about to continue heading in the first direction he picked, he thought that he would have a higher chance of finding the farm he was looking for if he looked at the boundary of the village. The reason why he had come to this thought was due to his experimentation with his sense of vision.

Unsurprisingly, the field of vision of a mosquito was far wider than a human's, which was one of the reasons why they were still able to escape from the clutches of death even at the very last moment. Unlike the mosquitoes in his past life, he was going to use his sense of vision to find food, figuring out that the range of his field of vision was enough to cover a portion of the village far larger than what a human could cover.

With that discovery, he unhesitatingly went ahead and zoomed towards the periphery of the village, stopping at the walls that defended the village about an hour later. After arriving at the defensive walls, he then utilized his sense of vision to the fullest in searching a farm filled with animals as he slowly flew along the path of the defensive walls.

While doing this, he could not help but allocate a bit of his mind to thinking about the circumstances of his current life, feeling that he was somewhat unlucky. Nevertheless, he continued to maintain optimism as he knew that there was no point mulling over something unchangeable. With that in mind, he muttered to himself, "Surely the heavens would give me something in exchange for my current circumstances, right?"

Just as he continued to think optimistically, his thoughts started to slip a bit as he continued, "Unless…the heavens think that my life is equivalent to a mosquito in their eyes. Then again, I can see where they're coming from. Accepting the wish of a young boy who had a weak body all his life."

Although he did not know who or what the heavens were, why they accepted his wish before his death, and if they even existed or not, it was the only way for him to maintain a rational perspective on what happened to him. Letting out an inward sigh to remove all of the negative thoughts in his mind, he then allocated all of his attention to finding a farm of animals, utilizing his vision to the fullest as he continued to fly over the path of walls.

Fortunately, his efforts had paid off as after a couple of hours, he found a small fenced-off area slightly distant from the houses nearest to it. In this fenced-off area, he was able to see a few animals that were common in his previous life, prompting him to ponder as to whether he was truly in another world or not. After looking at the three moons that covered the night sky once more, he decided that there was no point in thinking about it now.

Buzz…

While making his way to the fenced-off area, it was only now did he wonder if he could consume the blood of animals. Although he knew that the common food for a mosquito was blood, only now did he remember that mosquitoes had their preferences for food when it came to gender. He recalled that male mosquitoes only consumed plant juice due to their proboscises being feather-like while female mosquitoes only consumed blood since their proboscises were quite smooth, as well as the fact that they needed it to live. With that in mind, he soon asked himself, "Then what gender am I?"

Without delaying his journey, he focused his sense of vision towards the proboscis attached to his face, noticing that the proboscis was quite smooth. It did not take long for a sigh to spread inwardly as he said to himself, "So I'm actually a female mosquito."

"Well, I guess it's a good trade-off for this second life of mine," he hastily consoled himself as he added, "Since there's a lot of blood in this place, I surely wouldn't starve even when my lifespan is at its end."

But just as he was about to dismiss the thoughts he had, another thought popped up in his mind, making him wonder if there was a reason why he was a female mosquito instead of a male one in this second life of his. Of course, since he had no evidence to back up this question, he placed the thought at the back of his head for now as he continued to fly to the fenced-off area.

Eventually, he had arrived at the periphery of the fenced-off area, allowing him to see the animals that were currently sleeping at this time. As he examined each animal in the area, he could not help but feel that the pangs of hunger were becoming stronger, prompting him to look faster as he flapped his wings as fast as it could go. While looking at the animals, he took into consideration the amount of blood they had in their bodies as he did not want to cut his meal short.

Unsurprisingly, this thought was soon changed as he remembered that a mosquito wouldn't be able to suck up all of the blood contained inside an animal even if it tried its hardest. Recalling what he learned about mosquitoes in his previous life, the most they could suck from a being was around the milliliter to centiliter range. With that in mind, he stopped looking at the other animals and landed on the animal that was closest to him currently.

Of course, even though he stopped looking at the other animals, that did not mean that he did not look at the animal he was going to land on. Using his sense of vision to the fullest, he noticed that the animal he was going to land on had an exquisite mane covering the back of its head as its body gave off a sturdy and strong feeling.

"A horse, huh," the young mosquito muttered to himself as he finished examining the animal he was going to land on. Soon after, he landed on the horse's back, making sure to not wake the horse up. This thought was soon dismissed as he remembered that a mosquito was so light that even landing on a conscious being would not elicit any reaction.

"I wonder what blood tastes like," he soon said to himself with a hint of expectation as he aimed the proboscis in front of his face towards the skin of the horse before unhesitatingly poking it.

And just like that, the young mosquito was now going to consume blood for the first time…only that it did not know how. At the moment, it only felt that it had pierced through flesh as a weird feeling covered his proboscis. Fortunately, it did not take long for him to know what he needed to do next, muttering to himself, "I guess I just suck on it like a straw?"

Slurp…

Moving his mind to start siphoning blood from the horse, a suction started to appear at the end of his proboscis as a somewhat fluid started to enter the insides of his proboscis before making its way towards its stomach. While that was happening, the young mosquito's mind was being bombarded with sensations it was not familiar with. Wondering where it came from, he soon found his answer when his proboscis siphoned blood for the second time, bombarding him with the same sensations once more.

"Is blood really this delicious?" he muttered to himself in shock, remembering the taste of blood when he was still human in his previous life. Back then, he knew that the taste of blood was quite metallic. But right now, the blood he was siphoning now had a taste akin to a full-course meal?

If someone told him these words in his previous life, then he would surely not believe it. But now that he was experiencing it firsthand, there was no way for him to not believe those words.

Although he was not sure as to whether it was the pangs of hunger he felt or the sensations he felt from every siphon, he continued to siphon blood from the horse until he felt that his stomach had reached its maximum capacity. After reaching maximum capacity, he retracted his proboscis from the skin of the horse as he said with a tone of satisfaction, "That was great."

He then looked up at the night sky, noticing that the moons were now at a different place in the sky when compared to before. With that in mind, he could not help but wonder, "How much time is there left before morning comes?"

"Anyways, I think it's time for me to leave this place for now," he interrupted his train of thought by saying this not long after, thinking that there was no point in him knowing the current time as he would die eventually. And so, the young mosquito went ahead and started to flap his wings in order to leave the premises…only to stop as a monotonous voice resounded in his mind.

[You have obtained 1 Impure Blood Energy.]

"Eh?" This was the first response the young mosquito had to the monotonous voice resounding in his mind. Not long after, he let out a light chuckle as he said to himself, "I must be hallucinating after reincarnating into this body in this second life. I wonder how I can remove these hallucinations."

Just as he said those words, the same monotonous voice resounded in his mind once again, repeating the thing that was said before.

[You have obtained 1 Impure Blood Energy.]

At this moment, he was left at a loss for words as he knew that once a hallucination came, it would linger for a bit before disappearing. Of course, some hallucinations would come back after some time, but he had never heard of a hallucination coming back this fast. And so, he focused his attention on his mind, wondering if it would happen once more. Surprisingly, as if the monotonous voice knew what he was thinking, it said the same message once more.

[You have obtained 1 Impure Blood Energy.]

After hearing the monotonous voice repeat the same thing in his mind for the third time, the young mosquito had finally accepted the fact that the monotonous voice was not a hallucination at all, but rather something real. With that thought in mind, he then asked himself, "Why would a monotonous voice start talking in my head? Also, what's Impure Blood Energy?"

Surprisingly, the monotonous voice in his head responded to his question by saying, "All your questions shall be answered if you obtain the Blood Monarch System."

"Blood Monarch System?" the young mosquito repeated the monotonous voice's words in puzzlement, only for this puzzlement to be replaced with intense glee as he knew what it entailed. Recalling his memories of the past, he could not help but become excited as he felt that he now truly felt like a protagonist in those novels he read as he now knew that systems existed in the world he reincarnated in. Just as he thought about this, his mood took a small dip as he realized that he did not have a system, even though it existed in this world.

"Wait a second…" Fortunately, just as he was going to enter the rabbit hole of negativity, he realized something. The monotonous voice inside his head sounded like something that would only come from a system. Although he did not want to get overly excited at the fact that he had a system, he could not help but be thankful that the heavens added something interesting to his second life.

Suppressing his excitement, he focused his attention on the monotonous voice inside his mind as he recalled the voice's previous statement. Without hesitation, he asked the voice, "How do I obtain the Blood Monarch System? Also, don't I already have a system inside me?"

The monotonous voice soon responded to his question not long after, saying, "The Blood Monarch System can be obtained by consuming 1 Impure Blood Energy. As for your second question, you have been designated as a system inheritor by the heavens, giving you the chance to obtain the Blood Monarch System. In short, the answer to your second question is technically...yes."

Although he was slightly surprised that the monotonous voice talked for far longer this time around, he could not help but allow his excitement to go unchecked as he listened to the voice's reply. Of course, he calmed his emotions down soon after as he took in a deep breath. After doing so, he then focused his attention on the monotonous voice once again before asking, "So…if I'm getting your words correctly, I can obtain the Blood Monarch System."

"That is correct," the monotonous voice responded.

"Is Impure Blood Energy hard to obtain?" he soon asked, to which the monotonous voice replied, "With your current body, it is incredibly easy."

"I see." After hearing the monotonous voice's last response, the young mosquito had finally made up his mind. Without hesitation, he told the monotonous voice, "I would like to obtain the Blood Monarch System."

Rather than the voice responding to his question, a prompt just like before, which was accompanied by the monotonous voice, appeared in his mind as it asked…

[Would you like to consume 1 Impure Blood Energy to obtain the Blood Monarch System?]

Taking in a deep breath, the young mosquito responded, "Yes."

Ding!

Not long after, a notification sound resounded in his mind as multiple screens appeared in his mind due to his response.

[1 Impure Blood Energy has been consumed.]

[The Blood Monarch System has been obtained.]

[The Blood Monarch System has been opened.]

[The Blood Monarch System greets its new owner.]

[The Blood Monarch System has sent information regarding its operation to the owner.]

Just as he finished reading through the text on the last screen, an influx of information soon bombarded his mind as memories regarding the Blood Monarch System filled every nook and cranny of it. Fortunately, the young mosquito was able to process and organize all of the new information in a short amount of time, thanking the heavens that he still had the mental capabilities of a human.

Soon after that, he let out a laugh as he looked through the new information he had received once more as he asked, "I can officially say that I'm like those protagonists in the web novels I've read."

"This second life of mine is surely going to be interesting."

Well, with the change in narration, that means we're starting from scratch. Fortunately, I have a good idea on where this novel is going to go, even beyond where the old novel stopped. I wonder if any of you can imagine late-game MC?

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this chapter! Please vote for the novel with your power stones! I'd highly appreciate it!
