5 Unexpected news

6:02 pm

Aunt Kat's apartment.

The approaching footsteps made them stop talking, Aunt Kat and her friend, Mrs. Williams saw the two girls standing at a short distance to where they were seated.

As expected, the room still reeked of cigarette and anyone could tell the two ladies were buzzed.

Aunt Kat was impressed by the different look on her niece's face, the girl had changed her shirt to a black sleeve top, still on her jean shorts and the sneakers she had worn to school earlier.

She gave her niece an impressed look.

"Are you two going out?", Aunt Kat said.

Nancy and everyone else in the room could hear the excitement in Kat's voice.

She was asking the obvious, Nancy had thought.

"Yes, there is this party going on and everyone is going…" Jada answered in a haste tone, she looked at her mom, her eyes begging to let them go as she kept talking.

"You can go".

Jada paused on hearing Aunt Kat's response, a wide smile appeared on the girl's face.

Nancy made eye contact with her Aunt, she was not expecting a quick answer, Aunt Kat whom she knew would ask a thousand questions before anything.

Nonetheless, this is good.

"Come back before curfew though…", Mrs. Williams added as the two girls hurried out, almost giggling.

The two ladies looked at themselves and laughed.

"That is exactly what we want for them. Going out and having fun, not sitting at home being sad all day", Aunt Kat added, grabbing the whiskey bottle to pour more into her cup.

It actually felt good to be able to have someone she could tell what and what not to do, ever since Nancy had arrived, the girl had filled the empty void in her heart.

The girls came down from the cab, a few blocks away from the twin's apartment.

"Your Aunt is so cool, I should move in with y'all, my mom is just too cranky about everything", Jada said as she walked side by side with Nancy on the silent street.

Nancy smickered.

"What? I am serious…", Jada added.

A car at full speed passed beside them, also heading towards the house party with loud music coming out of it.

"This dumb a**", Jada said.

"How did you know the twins or what was their name again? The party we're headed to", Nancy asked out of curiosity.

"Some rich kids, two guys… rich, gym freak. They attend Greenville and they're known for driving the best cars in school", Jada answered.

As the girls approached the apartment, they could hear the sound of music and noise from the rowdy teenagers.

"Do they throw a house party every time?", Nancy asked.

Jada took a quick glance at her friend, she snorted and answered, "Trust me, almost every weekend, their parents are barely home so they throw a party whenever they want. This is my first time though. Always wanted to go with a friend and here we are".

They looked at each other and smiled.

Nancy could now see the house. A big two story house that looked straight out of an architectural digest magazine. It was so beautiful and there was no doubt in her mind that whoever owned it had to be one of the richest men in town.

People outside, cars parked disorderly outside. Some owners even forgot to shut their car doors. Few people going in and out of the house.

"You know you have not told me why you looked so excited when I mentioned Westwood boys being in this party… Do you have a crush or hoping to see someone?", Jada curiously asked as they got closer to the apartment.

"Ouuu I see more hot girls coming in, I am gonna be doomed! I'll be f**ked up tonight, no one should save me!" a guy said as he walked past Nancy and Jada.

Nancy and Jada looked at themselves and laughed out loud on hearing that.

Nancy looked back and saw the half-drunk guy staggering away, his trousers halfway to his waist, shirtless, and a lot of chains around his neck.

She shook her head and smiled as she walked into the apartment with Jada.

The loud music, teenagers, bottles of alcohol on a reserved table, kissing, the group of nerds at a corner trying to feel among, the obvious rich kids laughing and drinking, the girls wanting attention, the ones that were forced to be there, the ones that would have their first kiss that night.

Nancy knew it all, it was no different in New York, she had been to a few parties with her old friends and it looked exactly just like this.

She knew Jada was right, she was only there for one reason and that was because of the guy she would love to see again, knowing there was a zero chance she would talk to him if she saw him right now, or him speaking to her.

Jada went straight to where the alcohol was placed and Nancy followed.

With different types of alcohols and cups, Jada let out a wide grin.

"This is heaven Nancy," the girl said as she poured herself a drink and instantly slurped it all.

Nancy knew she would never survive drinking much, the last time she got drunk things did not end well, she slept in the dog kennel with her neighbor's dog next to her parent's house and it was not fun the next morning. Almost everyone in the neighborhood knew about it.

"No thank you, I'll pass.", Nancy said turning down Jada's offer.

"Can I have some?", a voice said.

Jada turned and saw a girl, she had short hair and a pointy nose, and no one could ever second guess she was one of the cheerleaders in school, she looked like it.

She gave Jada a gentle smile and without thinking twice, she poured the girl a drink.

"Thank you…", the girl said without breaking eye contact since she arrived, she smiled and walked away from the girls.

Jada stood there and watched the girl leave.

"What was that?", Nancy said while giggling heartily, "what was that Jada, you told me you like abs…. But you are…".

"I said I like abs, I didn't specify did I?", Jada interrupted while sipping her drink, she noticed the girl had disappeared through the crowds, and while trying to stretch her head to look for her, she continued "I like her…"

Nancy was not too surprised but at the same time, she was surprised because she had misjudged Jada's sexuality.

"I didn't know…", Nancy said, giving her friend a smile that reached the eyes.

"Now you do… I like girls", Jada added with a bright smile.
