Ocean

Arthur Bay is located on the north-east corner of Magnetic Island. With neighbouring bays Florence and just a short walk from the iconic Forts walk; Arthur Bay is the perfect location for lunch or a swim. With fringing reefs out-skirting Arthur Bay, don't forget to pack your snorkel gear. With less traffic than the main beaches, Arthur Bay is perfect for sun lovers to immerse and relax under the cover of the granite boulders and native hoops pines that surround the bay. Within a short walk, you can find one of the most iconic photo locations of Magnetic Island. Arthur Bay lookout is a 200 metre walk from the bay and showcases the island's natural untouched landscape. Koala's, rock wallabies, possums and more visit this bay and you can quite often see whales visiting these waters in the right season. Hi, my name is Ocean, I know it may seem like an unusual name for a 15 year old girl but it really isn't. But the only coincidence is that we live across the road from the most amazing beach in Australia. My mum chose the name Ocean because it was her dream to surf all over the world, but that shortly ended when she was in a surfing accident. My life from that moment onwards has revolved around the ocean, you may think that I am carrying on my mum's dream but I surf because I love to.

There is a sudden and sharp knock at my front door. "Mum," I yell as loud as I can, "there's someone at the door!" I pause at mid-whisk as my mum shouts back "Honey I'm busy, can you get the door?" I drop the cake battered whisk and wipe the rest of the gooey batter onto my super clean, spotless apron. By the time I have reached the door, there is one sharp knock before a smallish brown envelope comes sliding under the front door. I grab onto the envelope on one gooey hand and reach for the door with the other hand. When I open the door there is absolutely no one there, except for a sea salt rusted, blue van that has never moved from its spot of the side of the road. As I shut the door and walk back into the kitchen I remember that I still had that envelope in my hand. It is a brown envelope with an AIS sticker to seal it. And on the front in swirling letters is my name, Ocean in glittering blue ink.

Then I start to smell smoke and I instinctively look towards the oven. There is my cake, and it is burning. So I grab a mitten and thrusted my gloved hand towards the oven. When I remove my hand to check my poor cake, I have come to see that it's appearance is now crispy, blackened and burnt. "Hey Ocean, I'm coming down no to have a slice of that cake now." Calls my mum. I looked from my destroyed cake to the ramp. Then I see my mum's fluffy yellow slippers reach the bottom of it, her wheelchair sliding onto the wooden floor. "Oh Ocean, what happened to your cake?" She cries as she looks at the ashy cake in the tin in front of me. I gesture to the oven before I reach over and grab the bottle of soap with my grubby fingers. "Don't worry I'm just lucky that I made extra batter." I said as I begin to cover the top of the bowl with some cling wrap. "Hey Ocean who was at the door?" Asks mum as I open the fridge. "No one." I whisper smiling to myself behind the door as I glance at the letter before putting it in pocket of my salt and sun faded hoodie.

I have to go to the sea.
