The Death of Someone You Love Kills

"KADYN! No, NO! I can't lose you too! Please!" Keon screamed through sobs, running over to his brother.

The monster's arm retracted from inside Kadyn as his body fell limply to the floor. He breathed rapidly, tearing up from the pain.

"Kadyn, PLEASE!" Keon cried, holding onto his brother.

Out of nowhere, somehow after noticing Ezra, all the monsters scattered.

'As stupid as it is… What I did…

All I wanted was to kill those goddamn bastards…

Besides, I already died—

Back on the day I lost my dad, I died.

On the day I lost my mom, I died again.

I was just a corpse, waiting for an end.

When I stopped eating, I knew I wasn't human anymore.

There was no decision for me… To live or to die—that didn't matter to me.

Survival wasn't an option.

My only option was to exist.

Perhaps, I should've continued to live for Keon.

Now, he'll be all alone.

I just wanted to kill those bastards—Even if it was selfish to think so.

Even if I couldn't fight.

Even if I'd die like this.

For once the emptiness I've felt for the past few years, was replaced with a vibrant, anger in the form of fire, stabbing into my mind. It was such a compulsion that I couldn't help but run towards my death.

And for that, I am happy.

Sad, but happy.

Hysterical, maybe.'

Kadyn would smile before the light would fade from his eyes.

It was too painful to say anything.

Keon kept screaming at Kadyn's body, hoping for a reaction—any movement, but nothing happened.

Ezra stood there watching. He didn't seem particularly affected by Kadyn's death.

"Leave him there."

"What?!"

"…It's pointless now."

"Do you have any shame? Don't you feel anything?!"

"He was a stranger to me as much as you are."

Ezra's eyes looked to Kadyn's empty face then back to Keon.

"Now, you're all alone. Will you still come with me?"

"No. Not after witnessing how cold you are," Keon huffed.

He trembled from the sudden death of his brother.

It all seemed so… Pointless.

This was just an unfortunate situation.

Would anything have changed if they went back in time?

"Fine then. Good luck," Ezra stated before disappearing into the thicket.

Keon watched him leave until he knew he was gone.

Keon screamed and cried.

He cursed at the sky—the gods.

He would get revenge for everyone—his family.

He would dominate this new world and kill every monster.

Now, Keon knew what Kadyn had felt in that moment.

That flash of anger and desire to destroy. It burned throughout his body like a new strength.

The old Keon had died along with his brother.
