1 Prologue

He ran and ran. But he wasn't fast enough. He jumped over a park bench, dodging my knives. With his swift movements, he reminded me of a whitetail deer. Running from a threat, warning others of the danger with its bright tail as it dodges trees and branches.

I've always loved animals. Funny enough, the first thing I had ever killed was a whitetail deer. After mother died, all I wanted to do was take my rage out on something. That's why I had to kill him. He orchestrated her death. It was his fault. His fault for all the tears. All the anger. All the times father beat me out of rage of losing his wife to murder. All the fear. All the death.

He ran into an alleyway, but slowed down as he came to a fence too tall to scale. Breathing heavily, he was oddly calm. As if he knew this alley would corner him. As if it was a plan. Now he had been known for being the most feared mob boss in Nikko for 13 years. Nyx Criaz. Even his name is disgusting. But he never came prepared for anything. Especially me, a trained assassin. Trained my Criaz's own flesh and blood. His son, Adrian Criaz. Adrian has hated his father ever since Criaz killed his granddaughter. That's why he trained me. To kill Criaz.

I knew what was happening the moment I saw it. Criaz was trying to kill me, too. As strong and full of reflex as I was, Criaz's men were never loyal to him. I once watched 3 of his men get payed off to let a $1,000,000 necklace to just go missing.

I jumped from the building to his left. He didn't even hear me. I felt his warm blood dripping down my hands as I dragged my blade across his carotid artery. There was so much. I said a word of prayer. "Dear Father, please forgive me. For I know what I have done is unholy and unrighteous." I picked this up after each time I killed. After I killed father.
