3 Gaining Her Freedom (2)

- Club Velvet

Liling and Shen Ru walked into the nightclub, a very familiar place to them. The blinding flashing lights and loud music assaulted their eyes and ears but posed no trouble as they made their way, weaving through people on the dance floor.

They attached themselves to two barstools at the bar - their usual spots- to chat.

"Hey Hu Xing", Shen Ru was the first one to break the silence between them as she waved to one the bartenders, 'Twenty-one reasons 'by Nathan Dawe and Ella Henderson, blasted through huge speakers, creating a very light atmosphere between them.

Hu Xing was part of their assassin trio, and they had known each other for about 11 years. He was about six foot one and had shoulder-length hair which he liked to tie in a low bun. He always had a small smile on his good-looking face, and it showed off the dimple on his left cheek.

"Let me guess, Liling got called again?", he leaned on the counter as he directed his question at the two women,

"Yep, once again", Shen Ru responded in her stead, Liling's mind was present, she just didn't like to talk a lot.

"Save jobs for the rest of us then", he teased,

Their organization's assassins'' operated in a hierarchy system. They were tested and grouped into ten ranks, from F to S++, F being the lowest rank an assassin could have, and S++, being the highest. The number of jobs, level of difficulty of their jobs, and even the amount they were paid was dependent on this.

Liling was a level S+ assassin, while Shen Ru and Hu Xing were S ranked, therefore, she was given a little more jobs than both of them.

It was soon Ten o'clock, so Liling left them to continue talking without her, the boss had only requested to see her after all, she didn't need them to be dragged into anything.

She walked down the corridor to a store room and discreetly went in. To anyone who went in there, it was just like any other storeroom, dusty boxes and shelves, nothing special, but looking further, you could barely just see a metal door peeking through several boxes. She manoeuvred her way to the door and keyed in a special combination of numbers in a well-hidden keypad. The door immediately slid up revealing an empty elevator, the entrance to their underground location.

The elevator immediately went down, and as there were no buttons, she didn't have to push anything. The elevator door opened as it reached its destination, and she stepped into another lounge. The Assassins' Lounge. It was much quieter than the club upstairs as music wasn't being blasted through speakers, but there were still drinks being poured and people socializing.

She immediately walked down a long passageway, not bothering to speak to anyone on the way. She came to a big red door and posted in front of it, was the Boss' secretary.

"Liling, good, Boss just asked for you", she said her piece and opened the door for Liling, she gave a little wave as she watched her walk in and slowly shut the door behind her.

"Good, you're here, On time as always", Her boss' voice resounded in the room as she stood in front of his desk. Most people would be intimidated, but not Liling, she stood straight as she stared at him,

He was young looking and had an air of arrogance to him. His cunning green eyes always looked to be scheming, but there was always a smile plastered on his face, it wasn't a normal one though, it never reached his eyes.

They were no emotion in her eyes as she met the smiling gaze of her boss, that smile seemed to hold many emotions though, but she could never decipher them, not that she wanted to, she didn't give a damn, never had, never would.

"First, I must commend you, seven jobs in three days, you never cease to impress Liling. Anyway, I called you here to hand you a new job, high difficulty, but I'm sure you'll get it done"

"I don't want it", her expression didn't waver as she spoke, and neither did her tone,

He raised a brow as he propped his hands on his desk, the only thing that separated them, "And why is that?"

"I want to quit"

He let out a boisterous laugh as if he had just been told the funniest joke in the world, "Leave?, Tsk", he clicked his tongue in mock disappointment, "Liling, I expected more from you"

No reply, she stared at him, blue eyes icy and plump peach lips in a straight line,

He turned serious again, "I'm afraid Liling, you can't quit" he gave a short pause while gauging her expression, "You owe me"

"I'll pay my debt off, every last penny, if you give me the amount you need, I will", She didn't care if she had to work her entire life to pay off the money, she'd find a way, she refused to remain a slave to them.

"And if you pay us, how then are you going to take care of your little brother, who is also receiving treatment on account, of me", His eyes deepened and turned condescending, his tone turned mocking, reminding her that she owed everything to him, that she was nothing but a pawn that he could manipulate, and that was all she would amount to.

She was silent once more, but her frosty aura had changed and pure hatred brewed in her eyes, if her eyes could shoot bullets, he would writhing in a pool of his blood, a hundred bullet holes to his chest.
