1 Chapter 1

"Aurora! Aurora! Wake up you fat bum. There's no food in this house and you're still sleeping." My mother shouted as she banged my door. I don't want to wake up. I slept late last night because I had a night shift. She kept banging on my door and then yelled "If you don't open this door I am going to break it!"

I groaned and got out of bed. I opened my door and she was there standing like a statue. "Mum please can I get some rest. I came in late last night." I told her.

She stared at me. Her eyes were too red and teary. She kept scratching her arm like she had rashes on it. She does that a lot when she gets too high. Well, my mum is an addict. She has been using drugs ever since God knows when. She pulled her hair like she wanted to tie it in a knot then started crying. I rolled my eyes and asked "What's wrong?"

"Uh...food. I need food. I am hungry." She said as she held up on a wall for support and started walking to the kitchen.

I hate seeing my mother like that. I have tried everything to help her. I always take her to rehab but she keeps escaping every time. I feel so much pain, seeing her like that makes me sad everyday. I feel like I am a mother and she is a child. I am the one who literally pay for every single bill in this house. I work multiple jobs to feed my mother and my baby brother. I also pay for his tuition. I wiped my tears and followed her to the kitchen. I found her sleeping on the table with drool all over the place. Suddenly the door opened and Jeffrey walked in with a paper bag.

"Morning Aurora." He greeted me and kept the paper bag on the table.

"Morning Jeffrey. How are you?" I asked him. Jeffrey is my baby brother. We have a same mum but different dads. We both don't know our dads. He is such a sweet kid. What I really like about him is that, he is always happy no matter the circumstance. At his school many kids tease him about having a junkie as a mother but he doesn't give a damn about it. I wish I was like him. I care too much about what people say.

"I am good. Uh...I didn't hear you coming in last night." He said as he was removing some groceries from the paper bag. I moved close to him and help him out. "It was too late. I am sure you were already asleep." I told him.

"Where did you get this food?" I asked him. He glanced at me and then looked down and said "Uh..I bought it with the money I was saving."

"Oh! Jeffrey...I told you not to do that. I am the one buying food." I told him. He looked at me with a sad face and said "But you work too much. I need to help too."

"It's alright. Don't worry about that. I will take care of everything. Let me make breakfast. You need to eat before you go to school." I looked at my mum. She was mumbling about something which I didn't understand. I made bacon and scrambled eggs for breakfast. We tried waking her up for breakfast. She ate too fast like she has never seen food in her entire life.

"Mum! Mum! Slow down. You'll get choked." Jeffrey told her. She looked at us and smiled then kept eating. After breakfast Jeffrey left for school.

My mum used to have a very good job but when she started using drugs, she lost it. That made me stop going to school because she was not able to pay for my tuition. I was forced to look for jobs. I now work as a barista at Skylar's coffee shop. I also work at a bar as a singer. I really love music and I enjoy singing. Whenever I sing I forget about everything that has happened in my life. Sometimes I baby sit too. Looking at my mum who now moved to a couch. She was trying to turn on the Tv. That's what she does the whole day, watching Tv while I work my ass off. I grabbed the remote from her and switched off the Tv.

My mum looked at me with an angry face and she asked "Why did you turn it off?" I sighed and said "Mum you need to get up and do something! You can't watch TV all day."

"What am I suppose to do? I don't have a job." She said as she tried reaching for the remote in my hands.

"No! No! You're not getting this!" I opened the window and threw it out.

"Aurora! You better bring me that remote." She said angrily. "Keep waiting." I told her with a smirk and left.

She kept yelling at me and calling me names but I went to my room and banged the door behind me. I sat down on the floor and tears rolled down my cheeks. My alarm went on and I rushed to the night stand and snoozed it. I took a shower, tied my curls into a high ponytail and wore a dress.

Well, God blessed me with some curves, wide hips and thick thighs. In high school people used to tease me about my body and that made me feel so insecure about it. They used to call me "Fatty". I have experienced body shaming as I was growing up. It really hurt me a lot. I glanced myself in the mirror and wore my fake smile then walked out of my room. I found my mother sniffing some cocaine that was on the table. She looked at me with a bloody nose and mumbled something then passed out on a couch. I removed everything from the table and cleaned up then I covered her with a blanket and left.

It took me about 15 minutes to get to Skylar's coffee shop. I was so tired. I didn't get enough sleep last night. Opening the door I met with Skylar. She is my boss and friend at the same time. We went to high school together and she was lucky to go to college. But after college it was so hard for her to get a job so her parents gave her the coffee shop to run. When things were really hard for me she gave me a job as a barista and insisted on paying me extra money for working so hard.

"Hey Aurora!" She greeted me with a smile. I gave her a weak smile and said "Hey Sky."

"Girl, you look so tired. Did you really sleep well?" She asked me with so much concern as she examined my face.

"Nope! I didn't sleep well. My mother woke me up so early." I told her. She pulled me into a hug and said "Oooh darling. You don't have to work today. Just go home and sleep."

I broke from the hug and looked her "I can't go home. You know I need the money." I said. Suddenly the door opened and two guys walked in and the third one was moving in a wheel chair.

Douglas, Scott and Ryan have been best friends since childhood. They went to school together and they live close to each other. They all come from wealthy families. Last summer they went for a car rally and Ryan got into a terrible accident that made him not to walk again. Well, I don't like him at all. He is so arrogant and he only cares about himself and his friends. They went and sat at the booth.

"Hey Skylar! Tell Fatty to bring us three lattes and croissants." Scott shouted from the booth.

"C'mon Scott. Yo know her name isn't Fatty." She told him.

"We don't care about her name. Let her bring the damn latte!" Ryan barked. Skylar gave me an apologetic look and gave me the croissants. I made three lattes and then took them to their booth. I kept the tray on the table and wanted to leave then a hand held me. I turned to see Ryan holding my hand. "Who said you can leave Fatty?" He asked with a smirk on his lips. I wanted to wipe off that smirk with a slap.

"What do you want?" I asked him so angrily. He looked at his friends and they all laughed then he said "This latte is cold. I need another one." He tossed the cup on the floor.

"Ryan Tyler!! You can't keeping throwing cups in my coffee shop. If you can't act matured then leave immediately!" Skylar yelled.

They all laughed even more hard. I got so angry. I removed my hand from his grip and left. "Aurora, I am so sorry about those jerks. Sit...I'll go clean up." Skylar told me and took the mop to go clean.

I was shaking from high temper. Then Theodore walked in. "Aurora are you alright?" He asked with worry. "Theodore just leave me alone! I am fine!" I told him angrily.

Well, Theodore is a guy who has so much feelings for me but I don't like him at all. He can literally do anything for me sometimes I wish I could like him as much as he likes me.

Ryan and his friends walked out, before leaving Ryan came to me and said with a smug face "Hey fatty I still owe you that latte." His friends chuckled behind him and left banging the door.
