Walking back into my place, I swapped out the day's gear for something more chill and crashed on the sofa.

Lost in thought about the chaos swirling around, the Akatsuki's latest moves, a light bulb went off. Sage Mode. That trick Jiraiya-sensei teased me with ages ago.

In the whirlwind of life lately, it totally slipped my mind...

To shoot straight, it's not like I've been desperate for a power-up. I've been cleaning house in most scraps, barely breaking a sweat with what I've got in the tank...

But there's this nagging thought. A hunch, really, that there's something—or someone—out there. A force that could one day throw down, threatening everyone and everything that matters to me...

Jiraiya-sensei broke it down once; Sage Mode isn't just an upgrade. It's synergy—mixing my chakra with the raw vibe of nature itself to amp up to a whole new level of power...

Well, the sun's dipping. Time to whip up something to eat before it's too late...

I got up, headed to the kitchen, and threw together whatever the fridge was holding out on me for the night's meal...

Dinner done, I hit the bedroom and called it a night...

The next morning...

I woke up early, took a shower as usual, got into my regular outfit, and left the house.

After having breakfast at Ichiraku Ramen, I directly went to the Hokage office to take on a mission.

On the way, I met with my new teammate, or should I say teammate, because it was only Ino.

"Where is Shikamaru?" I asked her while walking towards the Hokage office.

"He said he has somewhere to be and will meet us in half an hour," she replied, and I simply nodded.

After some time, we entered the Hokage office building and went up to the Hokage's office.

After knocking on the door once, Granny Tsunade responded, "Come in!"

As we both proceeded to enter the room, I said, "Good morning, Granny!" while walking towards the desk with a smile.

I knew she gets angry when I call her Granny in the Hokage office, because it's informal for this place, but I like to call her Granny anyway.

Ino also greeted her with a bow, like one should, and by calling her Lady Tsunade as well.

"Where are Shikamaru and Choji, the third member of Team 10?" she asked, the same question I had just asked Ino a little earlier.

"They are a little busy with something, I don't know what it is, but they will join us in half an hour, so we decided to come here and talk about the new mission!" I responded. I know she asked only one question, but I knew what she was going to ask afterward, so I just answered everything at once.

"Most of our shinobi squads are out on missions, so at this moment I can't risk sending out more squads for missions, so you'll just have to wait until tomorrow," she responded.

"Oh!" was all I could respond with; I didn't have anything else to say. "What about Kakuzu? Have we received any information from him?" I asked.

"No, we haven't received any information from him. He's too stubborn and experienced to fall for any investigation!" she replied.

Anyway, I shouldn't worry too much. The Leaf Village investigation team will look into that matter anyway; I have nothing to do with that. "Okay, then we will be going," I said to Granny Tsunade as Ino also bowed in front of her, and we walked towards the door.

As soon as I reached the door, I remembered a question I wanted to ask her. It was about Jiraiya-sensei. I had something to discuss with him. "Granny Tsunade, do you know when Jiraiya-sensei will be coming back?"

"Don't ask me; he didn't tell me when he would return!" She replied. It felt like she was angry! I wasn't sure.

"Where did he go?" I asked, just to confirm if my assumption was correct or not, and it was. He went to collect information about the Akatsuki, as Granny Tsunade told me.

We both left the Hokage's office and went to the training ground. As we waited for Shikamaru and Choji, we decided we could do some training for now.

After some time, Shikamaru and Choji arrived, and we explained to them what Granny Tsunade had told us. Then we did some training, mainly to improve our teamwork.

Although our teamwork was already good because we used to train together very often in the past...

The day went by without much happening.

After 5 day...

I woke up, freshened up, dressed in my regular outfit, and after breakfast, I was ready to go.

Suddenly, I heard a knock at the door. I could sense two people outside the door, but my apartment was pretty much unknown to most people, except for some important ones.

So, I stood up, walked towards the door, and opened it to find two Anbu Black Ops members standing in front of me.

"Uzumaki Naruto, you are needed immediately at the Hokage's office; something urgent has occurred," one of the Anbu Black Ops officers said.

After some time, I was standing in front of Granny Tsunade, with Kakashi-sensei and other Shinobi members standing in the room.

Beside Granny Tsunade, a toad was standing on a tool. When I entered the Hokage's office, I saw two huge toads standing; if I am not mistaken, Jiraiya-sensei summoned one of the toads in front of me once.

The room was very serious; everyone was silent.

"May I ask what happened? Can anyone explain?" I finally asked, breaking the silence.

Granny Tsunade looked down, her face paler than usual, and as she looked up at me, she said, "Naruto, Jiraiya is no more." As soon as the words left her mouth, my body froze in place, and my brain stopped working for a few moments.

Suddenly, there was a sound behind us. The door opened and closed as we saw Sasuke standing in front of the door. His face told us that he had already heard the news while Granny Tsunade was speaking to me.
