I focused on the chapter title before starting to read, intrigued. The book began with an introduction explaining what vampires are, delving into their powers, which had always fascinated me in movies!

And most fascinating was their ability to read and influence thoughts!

"Alicia!"

I put the book aside, annoyed, as Lelisa stared at me with intense eyes. She always interrupted me from reading my favorite books, and it was truly irritating!

Lelisa, usually talkative, was oddly quiet today, which was quite unsettling.

"Is there a ghost behind me, and I don't know it?"

Suddenly, I felt those warm breaths against my skin again, and when I turned, there was nothing but the wall. Leave?! Where?! And why would I?

The room became even more peculiar, but I dismissed it, holding one of my books tightly—my escape from these whispers.

I know! I'm a twenty-year-old girl, a university student, and yet, I've never fallen in love. It bothers me!

Lelisa finally spoke after parking the car on the curb of the neighborhood where her idiot friend lived. I noticed him already standing at the entrance of the building, giving us his usual creepy looks.

He's weird, and I don't know why Lelisa is friends with him. His tattoo-covered body alone makes me want to run away from him. He looks more like a gangster than just a car mechanic!

I only noticed him approaching us after he opened the car's trunk, taking out Lelisa's bag and then throwing mine with all his might!

"Damn it!"

I muttered as I glared at him, and suddenly, I widened my eyes as he slipped on the ground. Lelisa's bag opened, and her clothes got stained with the mud left by last night's rain!

Oh God, this is hilarious!

I couldn't stop laughing at the ridiculous sight of him trying to stand up again. But suddenly, I stopped. Has my condition evolved, and I now hallucinate seeing a smiling specter, or am I really onto something?

"Let's go, Alicia. Instead of staring into nothingness, help us collect our clothes!"

Lelisa shouted at me, pulling me out of my daze caused by that smiling specter. I gave her a black look before redirecting my gaze to where she was, finding nothing!

Seems like I've truly lost my mind!

"Dinner ready?"

I added with boredom, holding my phone that rang before transferring my black look to Lucas. That jerk!

He's been provoking me for the three hours we spent here.

"Cook for yourself; you're a girl after all!"

Let him go to hell and burn there!

I shot him a black look before heading to the room where I would sleep with Lelisa after rejecting Greg's call for the thousandth time today. I'm going to the bar!

I hesitated as I looked at one of my short dresses, but eventually, I threw it aside, opting for black pants and my leather jacket. In the end, I'm going to the bar where Greg usually hangs out, and I don't want him to harass me if he sees me.

Let's break up, and stop calling me!

I settled for sending this message to his number before heading out immediately to the bar, determined to break up and stop him from calling me!

It took me no more than five minutes to enter after the guard verified my age. Quickly passing those almost naked bodies dancing provocatively, I made my way to the bar, taking my usual spot!

"Darling, you've arrived. Whiskey as usual?"

The waiter added, accustomed to my presence, lifting his eyebrows at me.

"I want your strongest drink!"

I said confidently, making him look at me with a kind of admiration before rushing to prepare my order. I contented myself by scanning the crowded place until my drink arrived.

All of them have lovers except me, and that's annoying! I've always felt incomplete as I never had a family and was born as an illegitimate child. When I saw falling in love as a way to get the affection I was deprived of, I found myself deprived of love as well.

I want to experience that feeling that writers excel in describing and portraying—the heartbeat for someone, the pain of separation, even if it's just for a day!

"I'll have your order ready!"

The waiter interrupted my thoughts as my cup and companion for the night arrived before I felt someone sitting next to me. At that moment, I turned in surprise, staring at the guy who sat in front of me!

He was a guy with Asian features dominating his pale skin, possessing captivating dark eyes and jet-black hair, somewhat appealing on him.

"Do you mind if I join you for a drink tonight?"

He asked me suddenly, and I nodded before he started his strange conversation.

Why do I feel like I've seen him twice today?!
