CHAPTER 30: JUDGMENT (3)

A bit more than an hour later, we are still at the court. A lot of people have been speaking now. Telestal and Emilia included. But to my surprise, David hasn't said anything yet. Even Ian spoke in my favor, together with other heroes and even people I don't know. But as you would guess, all their testimonies have been somehow considered invalid. If I was you guys, I would leave it be and let this thing finish. Those guys just need to put what happened on someone, that's all. Which reminds me, where is the king?

"Hero David…. You may speak." Ah, finally, you have raised your hand as well. Let's hear you use one of your best qualities: your speech.

"Dear people of Bazel. My name-"

"His testimony cannot count; this guy was bullying him for years!" Dammit. Sarah intervenes and stops him in his track. A huge vein pops on his forehead and he almost jumps on her. But Emilia being close seems to prevent him from doing so. This guy has been traumatized by you. That's not kind at all, Emilia.

"Please, hero Campbell. Allow him to speak first."

Sarah sits back and David keeps staring at her for a while before continuing.

"As I was saying, this man over here was in my school and I have known him for enough time to tell you that he is the very devil. The first time I noticed that was a day like any other. I found him, walking alone under the rain, and he saw a little girl getting hit by a car and didn't help at all." That was your car if I remember correctly. And I am pretty sure her mom asked for help and I…whatever. "After that, I went to confront him about it and he simply smiled. That's when I knew he was a true devil. David continues speaking, using a wide range of movements while he speaks. Like I said, this guy likes to speak, and he knows how.

"But even after everything I did, there wazs one single problem. The devil had already managed to seduced someone: this poor little girl." He then points at Sarah and the whole assembly reacts.

"Ohh!"

That was nicely done. Now, everyone is sure that her testimony can't count.

"What?! That's wrong!! He never seduced me!"

"You see? The poor one can't even tell she has been conned."

"Shut up! Goddammit! You are the one who tried to go out with me and I refuse! That's the only truth!"

"Ohh!!"

This is turning into a stupid quarrel between two people. And the assembly seems to be getting way too much into this.

"You were nothing more than a small test. Did you think I would ever be attracted by no brain like you?"

"You were just jealous. And you petty self can't admit it." Ouuuhh…that one must have hurt.

"Enough!" Once again, the head priest is forced to bring back the calm with the whispers that were starting to spread. "Hero David. Although your testimony would seem to be valid, it would seem it be biased by emotions as well. It would-"

"Let's just stop this mess; okay?" Right as I say that, a new window pops up before me.

Well, that's a new one.

"What is this?!"

"What is happening?!"

And it seems I am not the only one who has received this. Anyway, it is a bit stuffy in here. Whatever is coming, it would be better to receive it outside, right?

"Warren, can you move?"

"Of course. But why?"

"Bring me outside. Something is coming."

"Okay."

Instantly, ice appears around him and his chains are broken. Wait, you can still use magic? How?

"What the!!"

"Seize him!!"

Warren cuts my chain as well while people are jumping to us and when we try to move, a gust of wind as strong as a tornado hits us. Warren uses ice once again to protect us and when it breaks, we run outside.

Two of the five girls who were with Emilia are already standing at the door. They instantly release their auras but their feet and legs get encased in ice.

"You use magic well, you know?"

"You really think this is the time?!!" Even though he answers me like that, Warren smiles happily while dodging the attack of one the women. I do the same and we run outside. Before we reach the courtyard, another gust of wind, stronger this time, hits us from behind and makes us land brutally in the middle of the courtyard.

My body hurts all over and I feel like my back got cleaved a dozen times over by claws.

"Argh, shit." As I stand back up, I see a woman standing a few meters away from us. She is taking a stance that seems oddly familiar. "Wait, the dance of the wind?"

She has the same stances as him when he was showing me the different dances. That would mean she can use it. That's extremely surprising.

"You know of the traditions of my people?"

"Well, I-"

Before I can continue, the sky above us shatter. Emilia, Telestal and other people are coming as well and when they see this, all of them open their mouth in complete surprise.

"What in heaven's name is happening?" Even Warren seems to be surprised.

"Well, that is my judgment." I think so, at least.

A few seconds after the sky cracked before everyone, it shatters and the broken pieces falls down on us, only to disappear right before they touch the ground, the hole that just got opened show us a night sky, filled with red shining stars. Then a a shadow appears, growing as it comes closer.

I can feel my skin getting boosebumps. Whatever is coming, it shouldn't be here. I…I should have never done all this.

'What was I thinking? How could I be so stupid?'

While thoughts I can't control fill my head, the shadow finally clears and comes out of the hole. A dragon…A fucking huge dragon comes out and lands before us all, with two pairs of wings of different colors and red scales. His shining eyes are constantly changing colors, creating a phantastic mix that I can't help but look at while being amazed. At the same time, he is oozing with the same energy as the head priest.

I don't know why but it feels like the time has stopped. I can barely move my body. I can't even move my head to check if other people are seeing what I am seeing as well.

What was I trying to prove? Who push me into such an absurb situation? Yes, it is that bastard!! All of this is because of him!!! If only he was never here!!

"Sacrifice. My master has asked me to come and personally deliver you his message."

The dragon speaks and his voice is so powerful I am almost forced to go on my knees. But somehow, at the last moment, my body resists without my consent. Why can't I just go down? What is the point of resisting something against which I can't win? What will it bring to me?! Just go down, fucking body of mine!!

I try to force myself to kneel but my body truly refuse to obey me. What is happening?!

"Oh!! Oh!! To behold such a sight!! How bless am I!!"

Suddenly, the voice of the head priest breaks the silence that left the dragon's speech. When I raise my head, she is already kneeling before him with her hands crossed.

The dragon doesn't give her a single look however, nor does he seem to care about the other people who are already kneeling like her. Even the woman who was about to fight us using the dance of wind is already on her knees. Telestal and Emilia are doing the same.

Suddenly, my brain starts to hurt even more and I am forced to look back at the creature. My body finally gives up as its eyes and mine meet and I fall on my knees. Finally, this body of mine has given up. It is better like this. It should have never happened, I should have never tried all this. At least now, my foolishness can end.

"My master said that no matter why you are doing this, nothing will change. Because it was meant to be like this. Because he decided it." The dragon raises his paw and I can feel my body getting colder. The cold of death that I felt that day. Such a sweet, enjoyable and calm cold, that seeps right in my bones, freeing me of all my fears. As my eyes close, I can see everything that happened. Truly, it was fo…
