Chapter 16

Chris had an unpleasant expression on his face. The local armed forces couldn't stop the monster at all, and the BSAA reinforcements were likely to be approved for entry soon. However, even if the BSAA arrived, it would be difficult to handle a monster of this caliber, and there would likely be a large number of BSAA soldiers sacrificed.

"Don't just stand there, follow me. Let's try to go through narrow alleys. That guy's body is too bulky, so it's likely to get stuck in small alleys. This can buy us a lot of time," Li Yexing patted Chris's shoulder and said.

"But that also means we don't have any cover. That guy only needs to stand at the mouth of the alley and use a machine gun to take us all out. We'll be like sitting ducks," Chris shook his head.

"Don't worry, I'm familiar with the terrain here. We won't go through very long alleys. By the time it sets up the machine gun, we'll already have turned the corner."

Chris thought about it and realized that there really wasn't a better way, so he nodded.

And so, BSAA's star combatant Chris followed a third-rate Asian mercenary named Li Yexing from a small Eastern European country, along with a silver-haired and red-eyed B.O.W. teenage girl, shuttling back and forth in narrow alleys. Soon, they couldn't hear the sound of gunfire behind them. They stopped and rested in the narrow alley, and Chris contacted their headquarters to report the current situation and provide a detailed introduction of the monster's armaments and fighting style.

Lilith tugged at Li Yexing's clothes, and Li Yexing turned his head to look at the girl.

"Scared," the girl said softly.

"Don't be scared, we can handle it," Li Yexing said, patting the girl's head and pointing at Chris. "See this guy? He's an expert in dealing with these monsters and he's very powerful. With him, we can definitely take down that big guy."

"Really?" The girl turned to look at Chris, her red eyes sparkling with hope.

"I'll do my best." Chris had originally wanted to say "it's impossible," but seeing the expectant light in the girl's eyes, he could only answer this way. His smile was more painful than tears.

Looking at Chris's ugly face, Lilith whispered to Li Yexing in a voice that Chris could hear clearly, "This guy is unreliable." Chris's face became even uglier.

Just then, Lilith raised her head and said, "It's here." Li Yexing and Chris's nerves instantly tightened.

"Where?" Li Yexing asked.

Lilith stood still and suddenly grabbed Li Yexing's hand and ran back. Although Chris didn't understand the situation, he instinctively followed. Then, with a loud noise, the wall next to where they were standing collapsed instantly, debris flying everywhere. Nemesis in black armor crashed through the wall and rushed out from the rolling smoke and dust.

"T-LILIIITHHH---!!!" The monster roared deafeningly, turning around to chase after Lilith, but the narrow alleyway made it difficult for it to pass through. After attempting to forcibly pass through and scraping off a large piece of wall plaster along with a lot of rubble from both sides of the wall, the monster lifted its machine gun and fired at Li Yexing and the others.

"Duck! Duck!" Hearing the sound of the machine gun behind them, Li Yexing shouted, and Lilith pulled Li Yexing to turn right and into another alley. Chris was a little slower, but he also managed to avoid the bullets that were biting at his butt with a flying pounce.

"What did I say?" Li Yexing pulled Chris up from the ground and said, "We just have to keep circling around and it won't catch up with us." He then took Lilith's hand and ran again.

"It's useless, you've seen it yourself, that thing can just break through walls," Chris said as he followed behind them. "It doesn't make sense, how did it find our location so accurately without seeing us?"

"Blame it on some perverted researcher who installed a tracking device on this girl..." Li Yexing spat, "That woman definitely sold us out."

"Miss Kelly wouldn't do that," Lilith replied.

"Then how do you explain why that monster keeps chasing us relentlessly?" Li Yexing retorted.

As they spoke, Nemesis reached the corner and plowed several trenches into the walls along the way. By this time, Li Yexing and the others had reached the next junction. "Turn left, don't let it get its gun up!" Li Yexing shouted, and the three of them ran into the small alley on the left together.

"This road is too wide, that thing can catch up to us!" Chris shouted.

"It's okay, see that little building ahead? We'll jump over it!" Li Yexing said, turning his head to Lilith, "You go first!" Lilith accelerated suddenly and leaped onto the rooftop of the small building.

Li Yexing and Chris ran side by side, with the monster close behind. It stood at the mouth of the alley, slowly raising the rocket launcher in its left hand. "T-LILIIITHHH---!!!"

With a deafening roar, Nemesis fired the rocket launcher in his hand. Li Yexing and Chris jumped at the same time, and Lilith grabbed Li Yexing's left hand and Chris's right hand, lifting them up onto the rooftop. The three of them tumbled and crawled before leaping up, and in the next second, the rocket hit the small building beneath them. The structure exploded with a thunderous crash, debris flying everywhere.

The three of them fell onto the street in a heap, with Chris landing relatively safely due to his rolling to lessen the impact. Li Yexing held onto Lilith tightly, and Lilith used her arm to shield his head as they rolled on the ground. They finally slammed into a military green transport vehicle parked by the street.

Li Yexing felt like his body was about to fall apart. With Lilith's help, he managed to stand up with great difficulty. He saw that the street was now filled with local armed soldiers, numbering at least a hundred. They were positioned in alleys, on rooftops, as snipers, machine gunners, and with RPG and grenade launchers. Military green transport vehicles blocked off the main roads nearby, and Li Yexing even spotted a tank!

"He's in there and he's about to come out!" Li Yexing pointed toward the direction of Nemesis and shouted at the nearby soldiers. Upon hearing Li Yexing's words, the nearby soldiers quickly sprang into action. The person dressed like an officer quickly issued commands, and the soldiers around him used radios to report the target's location to their superiors.

The hundred-strong team quickly deployed, waiting in formation facing the collapsed building.

The heavy footsteps gradually approached amidst the billowing smoke, then stopped.

There was no sound on the entire street, except for the sound of breathing and the crackling and popping of flames.

Suddenly, a terrifying roar rang out. Accompanied by the roar, a large piece of burning rubble flew out from the thick smoke of the ruins and headed straight for Lilith.

Li Yexing flew over and tackled Lilith to the ground, but the flying piece of rubble directly flipped Li Yexing and the transport vehicle behind him.

The terrifying figure took heavy steps through the burning flames of the ruins, broke through the thick smoke, and walked into the soldier's ambush circle.

"What the hell is that?" Although the soldiers who had escaped by luck had already heard about the monster's characteristics from their mouths, the officer still felt shocked and fearful when this guy stood in front of them. The terrifying oppression from the inhuman monster was squeezing the nerves of every soldier present.

"Fire!" Suppressing the fear in his heart, the unnamed officer roared, and in the next second, countless firepower poured onto the tracker. Grenades and RPGs exploded crazily on the monster, several heavy machine guns lifted a wave of metal storms toward the monster, and sniper bullets hit Nemesis's bulletproof mask one after another. Under this highly concentrated heavy firepower, Nemesis began to retreat.

"Let's go!" Li Yexing grabbed Lilith's hand and said to Chris, who picked up his gun, seemingly wanting to join the battle, but Li Yexing pulled his shoulder.

"Why do we go? We can completely kill that thing here!" Chris asked inexplicably.

"Just trust me and follow me." Li Yexing shook his head and held Lilith with one hand and Chris with the other, and the three of them walked into the alley behind them together.

"Why?"

In the alley, Chris shook off Li Yexing's hand, his face full of confusion and even anger. He stared at Li Yexing's face, waiting for an explanation.

"Just keep your eyes open and watch." Faced with Chris's questioning, Li Yexing did not explain, he just shook his head and pointed to the battlefield outside, his face full of gloom.

Chris may not know, but Li Yexing knows very well that in every Resident Evil game, this type of BOSS battle must be fought in several stages. Wearing clothes is the first stage, bare-chested is the second stage, and when certain unspeakable organs expand, it is the third stage. Dr. William even had five stages.

Li Yexing was sure that this reinforced version of Nemesis would not be knocked down with just one wave of attack, and when the battle entered the second stage, these soldiers outside would probably be in serious trouble.

The piercing scream came from the street outside the alley, and the local army's tank fired. Along with the deafening explosion and the fireball rising into the sky, the black exoskeleton of Nemesis was directly penetrated, and it slowly knelt down on the ground and did not move.

"Cease your fire! Cease your fire!" the officer shouted.

The frantic barrage of gunfire instantly stopped, and around the tracker were small and large craters plowed into the ground. Nemesis knelt in the middle, with white smoke rising from his body, completely motionless.

A soldier held his breath and walked over. He fired two shots at Nemesis, who showed no response. The soldier took a deep breath, summoned his courage, and approached with his rifle raised high. He then smashed the butt of the rifle onto the tracker's head, but Nemesis still showed no response. The soldier breathed a sigh of relief and waved to the officer, indicating that it was safe.

"OHHHHHHHHHH-------!!!" Excited cheers from the soldiers in the street could be heard. The officer breathed a sigh of relief and reported to his superiors via radio. The brave soldier was now posing with his gun beside the fallen Nemesis, while his comrades took photos of him.

Chris looked at Li Yexing but noticed that Li Yexing had widened his eyes and was staring fixedly at the fallen Nemesis. The military was preparing to clear the battlefield. The brave soldier, with his gun on his back, looked at the photos his comrades had taken on his phone while chatting and preparing to leave. It was at that moment that he vaguely heard a strange noise behind him.

A crimson tentacle suddenly shot out from the torn black exoskeleton of the tracker. The poor soldier had no time to react and was impaled in the abdomen by the blood-stained tentacle. He looked in horror at the tentacle protruding from his stomach and let out a wailing scream. The sudden turn of events froze the entire battlefield.

Li Yexing patted Chris on the shoulder and said, "See...it's time to run for our lives."
