The Dacia Advance

Unified Years 1914, South-eastern Imperial war office.

"Please forgive me for my intrusion," I entered the room, as usual violet followed behind.

"Oh, Major Tanya seems very happy, is something very good happen?" I asked to particularly no one inside the room.

Even she didn't notice my presence here, jumping high above in excitement and how grateful she is to entrust to this mission.

"About that, Major asked for the presence of the air force of the Dacia."

"And what about it?"

"The recon says there's no sign of the enemy air force."

"I think I understand why she was so excited."

As a war veteran from the quagmire called the Rhine, both sides had been longing for air superiority. And to think the dream had come true for the empire, thanks to complete lack of air force from Dacia, complete air supremacy is guaranteed.

That means she knows that the Dacia army would just be an open target for the air above, especially her special unit the 203rd mage battalion.

For this mission, I bring 2 divisions and 3 mage wings as reinforcement acting from the Norden, along with some friends I have trained with. Though our order has not yet been given.

"This will be a wonderful day," Tanya twirling around, humming as she realized we've been looking at her all this time.

"Well, at least she seems happy," The radio operator said.

"Agreed."

Her face flushed in red tomato, clearing her throat, Tanya said in a bit of fluster, "Ehem, please do forgive my unbecoming behavior."

"No, I think it was nice to see you like this once in a while, Major Degurechaff."

"Please just stop," Her voice muffled by both of her palms.

"Right."

"Looks like both of you have arrived, good," Lieutenant Colonel Rerugen entered the room.

"Now, to cut the chase. As you've known, Dacia is attacking our border. At this moment, the border guards are on retreat to the fallback point waiting for reinforcement."

"And then we will launch a surprise attack from above," Tanya said.

"Don't be sarcastic major, the HQ has ordered your mage battalion to carry out a delay operation."

"Delay Operation, is that mean my mage wing has to halt the entire Dacian Troops in their advance?"

"I know this is ridiculous, but it takes time for reinforcement to arrives."

Then I raised a hand, to which they notice, "I concurred, I have brought 2 division and 3 mage wings here."

"And? How long did they take to get here, Major?"

"Don't worry about that, Lieutenant colonel, They're already here. Shoes oiled, rifle stocked, they're ready for an order."

"That fast?"

"My units would be enough, let alone halt their advance, we could solely crush their columns," Tanya said, not in haughtiness, but a certainty.

"Major Degurechaff, are you aware of what you have said."

"Yes, please let me ask you a question, Lieutenant colonel."

"Granted."

"Are there any reports of Long-range artillery strikes, or airstrike coming from the Dacia?"

"No, there aren't"

"Then you have your answers. We're facing an army of a barbarian, no, an army of clowns who still relied on code of chivalry and column marching."

Then the air grew colder, her back felt as big as a grown man. With a mad grin, she said to Lieutenant colonel, "My units are well trained, fully armed, see how I crush these so-called 600.000 large armies."

That wasn't a promise but a statement. Tanya units may newly form, and she may be untested. But, against a bunch of a mere 600.000 boy scouts marching across the mountainous region in the border?

The lieutenant colonel was speechless at her bold statement, "I guess that has been concluded. We cede the position for the vanguard, Major Tanya Degurechaff. Instead, we will act as a second defense, should anything happen to your units, major."

"Well, the order is for her to halt the advance of Dacia, and your units are supposed to come along with the reinforcement, Major Richard. Nothing has been changed."

"I guess so."

---==++Deus Vult++==---

Six hours have passed as the 203rd wing brave forth acting as the vanguard.

We were waiting inside the Headquarter. No matter the front, I guess chaotic and messy military office can't be helped. The order was barked, messengers come and forth, bringing another data, statistics, and reports to analyze.

But it soon was broken, by a single transmission coming from the 203rd Aerial mage battalion. 6 hours they have been keeping in silence as most of the staff officers were preparing to avenge the death of the Argent.

Quite ridiculous, they were overestimating the enemy.

"This is 203rd battalion, we've seized the enemy headquarters. We've dispatched a mage wing to retrieve and deliver high-valued-document to the Headquarters. The 7th air fleet had arrived for a bombing run. We're currently set our path to the Dacia Capital city."

At first, they were sighing in relief, of their war hero safety. Then an outcry was shouted of how absurd the Major plan is. Launching a surprise attack above Dacian Capital.

I see, judging by how lacking the Dacian regarding their air force. It could be interpreted, that even the concept of air defense was non-existent inside the tiny little brain of theirs.

And looking at the distance between the battlefield and the capital, she will arrive at the break of dawn. Where people sleep, and the army too drunk to stand up.

Exploiting this, Major Tanya Degurechaff set her path for the Dacian Capital, knowing her unit won't come to harm.

Though I don't know why I have such a nagging feeling behind my back, that this will go south as it was not meant to be.

"Lieutenant Colonel, may I take a detachment forces to assist major Tanya Degurechaff."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, our unit has been equipped with the latest invention. We're confident we could catch up to them before sunrise."

He looked between my eyes, before sighing, "I authorized this mission. Assist Major Tanya Degurechaff however you can."

"Gladly, sir."

I turned and walked to the door.

"Violet, gather the squad leader of each mage wings and told them to equip their gear, it means you too violet."

"Yes, sir."

I was waiting at our designated war room, pacing back and forth until I heard a knock coming from the door.

"Enter."

Two women, no, I always forgot about him. Two men and one woman, along with Violet entering the room. Each was wearing the Obsidian Round table.

"Flight mage lieutenant Michael Wittman reporting for duty, Kommandant," The man saluted, his black hair was messy, though the hat was cleverly hiding it.

I nodded in silence at the taciturn man.

"Flight mage second-Lieutenant Beatrice Kircheisen, reporting for duty," She saluted in a warm smile, radiant as bright as her hair, though the last member couldn't be left unsaid either.

"Yahoo! Kommandant, so we finally going to kill somebody right? Right? You promise?" The girl, no, it's a boy. No matter where you look at him, he's a boy. Why I kept mistaking his gender.

"As energetic as ever, Wolfgang. And Beatrice where's Eleanore? Aren't she supposed stood where you are?"

"Haha, about that, she went somewhere and said, just report to me that brat order," Beatrice rubbed her cheek.

"That damn loner, well, I guess it's fine. All the member is here."

"What are your orders, Kommandant?" Michael asked me.

"Simple, we will march to Dacia Capital in an hour. From there we will assist the 203rd mage battalion in their raid. Though I would love to bring some souvenir from there."

"What do you mean about that, Kommandant."

I pointed at the map of the grand duchy of Dacia, "At this moment, Dacia's main army has been crippled, and their homeland left undefended without any air support.

Although I've said that we will assist the 203rd, we'll assist them in the way we can. Infiltrate the duchy council, kidnap high-ranking officers and force them to capitulate to the Empire, while the 203rd wreak havoc above us."

"What if we can't?"

"Then we killed them!" Wolfgang in her -it's him, why I keep mistaking his gender.

"Easy there, that's why we force them by the show of force if we can't then it's up to you Wolfgang."

"Hehe, I love you Kommandant."

"Wait, just five of us?" Beatrice asked.

"Make it six, since you've has joined us instead of Eleanore. And Beatrice go outside, and call that damn woman."

"Yes, sir!"

Thanks for reading, though I felt my writing is subpar at best.
