Beast tide (III)

The leader of the rescue team bent down and inspected the ashes left by the campfire in the cleared area. 

"You're right, there are indeed traces of activity here, but it has cooled down, somebody has indeed stayed here yesterday. Only that we can't be sure it's the freshmen that stayed here"

"Leader looks like something has been dug from here" a member pointed to a strange pit next to the stone slates next to shrubbery.

The leader came over and peered into the so-called pit when another member noticed something. "There are some broken roots inside the pit, could it be what was dug is a plant of some kind?"

Leader nodded. That's very likely.. and if it's actually a plant that has been dug, then wouldn't that mean there's a high chance that the freshman has been here? Weren't they collecting materials for the assessment?
