6 Suiting up(Timeskip)

An entire month has passed since I was forced to leave home. And in that time, I kept my head down. Neither I nor Fury tried to contact one another until things settled. And I used the time to hone my powers and make my gear.

After scanning my body on a machine in the medical lab, I found out that I indeed had web producing glands on my forearms and can release them via my fingers just like Silk. Unfortunately, unlike silk my webs do not seem to have the same range, losing momentum just after 10 meters. I also shared the same flaw as Silk had with this ability, namely the finite amount of silk I could produce and store at a time. Meaning I'd still have to rely on the web showed-shooters around. But despite these issues, my organic webs are in a word formidable. It shared similar characteristics as the Darwin bark spider which had the strongest silk in the world. And through genetic manipulation, my father seemed to have made it even stronger. A 1 cm thick stand of it can stop a speeding car with ease. Moreover, I realised that I could weave this silk and make clothing out of it. And considering the sheer toughness of the silk that surpasses kevlar, I decided to make my suit from it which was easier said than done since I needed a lot of concentration to weave it properly. It's to be expected of course. Cindy had a decade to practice and I only had done so for a month. A month which I also spent on other activities. Speaking of which...

I walked into the ring as a timer counted down from a terminal above me. When it got to 10, around 5 androids resembling armoured SHIELD agents materialised in front of me. And as it counted down farther, they spread out, surrounding me.

I took a stance waited for the countdown to finish.

A loud horn blew, signalling the start of the match and all of the constructs lunged at me in an attempt to tackle me onto the ground. I kicked the ground and leapt roughly 5 meters into the air and evaded them before landing behind them. And before they could turn back around, I turned invisible. The androids began looking around upon losing sight of me and I made my to the back of their ranks to flank them from behind.

I waited until they were a bit spread out before ambushing the android closest to me. I lead with a spinning kick to its head which launched it to the side before changing my target to one of its hapless counterparts who were in midst of turning around after hearing the attack on my first victim. I kicked its feet causing it to tumble but not before it tried to throw a punch at me which I parried with my forearm before grabbing the arm. I then spun it 180 degrees before hurling it at its companions resulting in two of them being hurled with it.

My spider-sense then flared and I craned my neck, narrowly dodging a punch from one of the remaining androids. It then follow up with a flurry of attacks which I sidestepped, ducked or dodged, all the while keeping an eye on the android that was trying to attack me from behind.

And then, it happened. The android in front of me attacked me with a straight kick and the one behind me attacked with a sweeping kick. In response, I hopped onto the head of the android in front of me before kicking with all my might propelling me into the air while the android was slammed onto the ground. A pair of indents now adorning its head where I had kicked it.

Then I, still in mid-jump, grabbed my would-be ambusher as I was descending before pushing twisting my body and using the momentum to throw it into the wall. Another android advanced only for me to sweep its legs before kicking its torso, sending it sliding across the floor the androids following it evade to the sides. Allowing me to close the distance between us before aiming a look at the android closest to me. My attack was blocked but the sheer force behind my punch causes it to freeze up. However, instead of following it up, I instead kicked the knee of the other android before I spun around, using the motion to send another kick to its head and sending it flying before grabbing a punch from my previous target. I then twisted its arm before lifting it over my head and slammed it into the ground before stomping on its head a couple of times, leaving its head a mess of broken circuits and malformed pieces of metal.

I then looked around, surveying the damage I had done. Two of the androids were incapacitated and the remaining had varying amounts of damage on them. It won't take long for me to take them all out. I readied for my next attack only for my spider-sense flare, promoting me to dodge, barely evading an energy beam that came from behind. I looked back and saw an older model of a Spiderslayer entering the ring. I felt myself panic. Spiderslayers were created as a direct counter to spidermen, armed with mechanical arms like the ones of Doctor Octopus, several energy weapons and even a device that can jam the spider-sense.

I also didn't recall assigning it to today's training which leads me to suspect a bug in the system or..... I thought to myself as I looked at the observation room outside of the ring. And sure enough, I saw Fury smoking a cigar with a smirk on his face.

I was about to yell at him when my spider-sense flared again and I avoided one of the Spiderslayers arms before jumping on it and using it as a springboard to get closer to the machine.

I lead with a kick to its central unit on its head before pressing both my legs into it before jumping off once more, evading one of its arms. The force of my jump left it dazed for a while before some kind of sensors came from beneath its armour plates. It then began humming to power. I bit back a curse as I deduced what it was. And then, I remembered the remaining android which was still functional and I turned to see three of them attempting a 3 pronged attack on me.

I threw caution to the wind as I charged at them aiming for the one in the centre. Just as they were on to me, I pulled my arm back into a punch before swinging it as a straight jab. In response, the android tried to block it when I used my secret weapon. In a split second, my arm was surrounded by electrical sparks before it continued its trajectory and hit the android's crossed arms.

Unlike last time, however, the venom blast managed to short circuit the androids systems making it unable to brace against the full might of my punch and like a cannonball, it was thrown into the air before it collided with the far wall.

The rest of my attackers weren't idle as they threw their punches at me but I twisted my body and dodged one of the punches and parried the other, grabbing the arm of the android whose attack I just parried. I was about to deliver another punch with venom blast when I felt something coiling around my body before violently pulling me into the air. Sure enough, it was the Spiderslayer.

I managed to wrench myself free from its grasp and jumped to the side just as it released another volley of attacks from its energy cannon. The beams missed me but thankfully managed to take out 2 of the remaining androids. One of the tendrils then tried to stab me but instead managed to stab the concrete ground near me and I used that chance to shoot several strands of webs over the tendril, effectively trapping it momentarily. I then shot pair of webbing at two pieces of debris and began swinging them around like flails, delivering blow upon blow onto the Spiderslayer and the androids attempting to get closer to me.

The Spiderslayer tried to grab me with one of its remaining arms only to be parried to the ground with my flails before I trapped it under my foot and webbed it as well. I then turned my attention to the androids by shooting the debris on the flails at them like a sling with both projectiles digging deep inside their necks, where the armour was thinner taking them out of the board.

I then webbed the last remaining android and pulled towards me as the Spiderslayer readied its cannon. I put the now helpless android between me and the Spiderslayer thus catching the blow from the cannon in full as I used the resulting smoke to advance closer to the robot.

Its last remaining mechanical arm attempted to grab me I managed to grab it instead before pulling on it while spinning my body causing the arm to be pulled to its limits until it got taut. I then tore the arm clean off before discarding it to the side. With all three of its arms gone or bound, all it had left was its cannon which was still in midst of charging. I targeted the devices near its central units, the ones jamming my spider-sense. I covered both my fists with the venom blast and began punching them in quick succession wearing them down until suddenly, I felt my spider-sense flair. I managed to move to the side just as the cannon fired once more barely missing the energy blast before I countered with another venom blast this time after putting my back into the punch.

A large fist-shaped indent was formed on it before the machine's hud began flickering before it shut down.

I then looked at Fury who was clapping from the other side of the mirror. Furious, I ran out of the arena and back up the stairs and entered the control room before swinging a swift hook at Fury, all without a word. Except I didn't feel my first landing on his jaw as a transparent barrier was erected around the older man.

"What was that for? I could have gotten hurt.!" I yelled before punching him once more only to hit the barrier again.

"Expect the unexpected. That's something everyone in our line of work has to keep in mind. And besides, if you couldn't take down the dollar store version of the spider slayers, how do you plan on going up against Tony who has more dangerous machines than this?" he replied calmly before taking puff out of his cigar.

He was right in a way. The Spiderslayer model I just fought cannot even match up to the Mark V version of the Spiderslayers as this model was meant to be mass-produced and used as unmanned sentries to support the more advanced Spiderslayers. That was why I was able to take it down as easily as I had. The latest itineration of the Spiderslayers are in an entirely different league.

Knowing that arguing further with him was useless, I instead asked. "What do you want?"

"Relax. I'm here to check up on you. And to introduce you to someone." he then turned to the side and said. " You can come out now."

A figure then exited from the shadows before making her way to me. She wore a skin-tight suit with a pair of metallic gauntlet adorning her arm. She extended her hand at me before introducing herself.

"Names Daisy. Daisy Johnson. Or Quake if you prefer." she said. I reluctantly shook her hand.

"Alexia. I haven't decided on a codename yet. So um... yeah." I mentally facepalmed at my words. "Why is she here exactly?" I asked Fury before turning back to Daisy. "No offence" I added.

"She's your new teammate. Both me and Cap are preparing for something big so we need all hands on deck," he replied.

"When?" I asked with a serious tone.

"A couple of days from now. This operation might be just what we need to weaken the registration before our assault on Prison 42. They need somebody to run interference in the meantime, keep the 'heroes' distracted." Fury replied before he dropped a file on the table.

He then opened the folder revealing several documents including a picture of a man I was familiar with all too well.

"William Wagner. SHIELD liaison in charge of the prisoner exchange between the West Coast and the East Coast. He got his current position due to the connections he has amongst several political figures. Due to the escalating conflicts between the Secret Avengers and the Registration Act, he has taken a sabbatical and is currently enjoying himself in a resort in Puerto Rico. At least that is the official story."

Fury then turned a page and showed another man, one I didn't recognise. "According to my sources, he is there to hire mercenaries from the Darkwatch to capture mutants and other enhanced individuals outside of the US on orders from his superiors. "

"The superhuman arms race," I muttered between gritted teeth.

That was the true reason why the so-called registration act even began. Uncle Sam wanted to hoard the most amount of superhumans on Earth.

"Right. Your mission is simple. Infiltrate their meeting and gather as much evidence and intel as possible. Then wait for Wagner to leave before taking down their entire operation. "

"What? Why are you letting him go?" I demanded.

"Cap wants to ambush him once he goes back to New York, hopefully with the evidence you gather from the Darkwatch compound. This will deliver a massive blow to Registration Act's PR and even net us support from foreign powers."

"Ok. So when do we leave?"

"First thing tomorrow. You should case the area before Wagner makes his way there. And perhaps maybe finish your suit." he said, aiming the last bit at me. Causing me to give the finger in response. He left after going through the mission in detail leaving me and daisy as the sole residents of this safe house.

"So... you have a suit? " she asked awkwardly.

"Yep. A part of a suit at least." I replied before walking away while gesturing her to follow. I led her to my workbench, where my suit and my gadgets were sprawled. Daisy immediately took the unfinished bonnet piece and examined it.

"Wow, you're layering it with Normex, armour plates and..... what's this material. It feels very tough," she asked while pointing at the places women with my very own silk.

"Enhanced Darwins Bark Spider," I replied as I began tinkering with my bracers. It used to be the gauntlets until I found out about my web production after which, I switched it to bracers to help me shoot webs. Other than that, the bracers had all the functions I was going to add to the gauntlets.

"What?! how did you manage to get so many of it?' she asked quizically.

I looked at her with a confused expression. "Didn't Fury say anything to you about my powers?"

"No, he wanted to let me hear it from you."

"Well. it's a long story. I'll tell you later why don't you help me with this for the moment." I said in an attempt to deflect the subject for as long as possible. I'm not exactly sure I want people to know that the silk comes out from within me. It's kind of embarrassing for me.

We worked in silence for the next few minutes but I saw her fidgeting uncomfortably. As if she wanted to ask me something.

"Sorry about this. But I need to know. Is it true that you were genetically modified to never be able to grow hair on your legs, underarms or you know, down there?

I felt my blood run cold. She had read my medical files from when I was at Apex. The same ones that were leaked into the internet when Dad left Tony and his band of war criminals.

" Yes. " I replied hoping that's she'd drop the subject. I have never been so wrong.

"What about the fact that you don't get the cramps when you..."

"Yes."

"And that you...."

"Yes.."

"And..."

I am starting to second guess our partnership.
