1.2: Shane Tyre

Shane suddenly shot up from bed. His eyes were wide and dilated. Sweat covered his body. He was breathing rapidly as if he had just run. Assessing the situation, he promted his body to calm down. This was the second time Shane woke up in shock. He wondered if it would be happening more frequently.

What had happened? He must have passed out. But luckily, he got a few flashes of memory. He didn't know who that guy was, but he had appeared in the flashes. He had appeared standing in what seems to be a club or party if the bright colorful flashing lights were to be judged. He also remembered himself searching that guy on the computer and meeting him inside a building.

Oh, he definitely knew that man. The thing was he didn't know where the malice in he saw in the man's eyes came from. Shane was wary for what his past self could have done. He couldn't be that bad could he? By the way he looked at himself right now, he was pretty sensible.

Could amnesia make you change your personality that much? Shane opted to steer away from that topic for now or he would make a debate about Nature Vs. Nurture in his own mind.

Now that he saw where he was, white walls and sheets, he was probably still at the hospital. He got admitted by the looks of it. If this had to happen every time he got some flashes, it might be better if he doesn't remember, lest he go into a coma by the shock of it. Although, it would be easier if he just had them. Shane cursed at the person who poisoned him.

Sitting up, he noticed that a needle was injected into him connecting to the IV. Shane didn't like needles and would be better off without those poking into him yet as much as he wanted it removed, he wouldn't. You never know what more complications it would cause.

Shaking himself away from those thoughts that would just make him more anxious, he thought about what he would do next. Should he meet up with that guy and clear misunderstandings? Maybe that would just backfire, after all he didn't know the entire story. Should he just continue to live his life? That would be the most probable decision. But there was still this itching thought at the back of Shane's head that there is something important he must do.

Shane heard a creak, which signalled the opening of the door, causing him to turn his head to the source of the sound. Entering was a young nurse, whom he could tell was surprised to see him awake.

"Mr. Tyre, you're awake" the nurse quickly composed herself as befitting of someone who was used to handling high profile clients. She quickly placed the tray of medicine on the nightstand beside the bed and began to make some adjustments to the IV. Shane watched her work very efficiently and quickly.

"The doctor will be here soon to assess your condition. You're father has explicitly told us that you were to stay here until you have fully recovered. Do you need anything Mr. Tyre?" The nurse was very professional in her tone and her words were concise, cementing the fact in Shane's mind that the nurse was indeed used to handling high profile clients.

"How- " Shane's voice was hoarse and dry. Probably because of disuse. The nurse handed him a glass of water to which Shane was very grateful of. He didn't even feel how thirsty he was until he realized he had already finished the glass. It was a good thing that the nurse handed him another one.

After he quenched his thirst, he continued his question. "How long have I been out? " Shane's throat felt a bit better but his voice was still hoarse.

"It has been about 5 days since you were admitted." The nurse replied.

Shane mulled that fact for a few seconds and forgot that the nurse was still standing there. Finally noticing the nurse he cleared his throat.

"Thank you. That would be all" he dismissed the nurse, wanting more time to think to himself.

Shane gave a light sigh as the door closed. He had been out for five days. He needed a bit of time to digest that but he was more worried about his father. Judging by the man's doting nature this must've hit him hard. Shane wondered how he was doing.

While thinking about his father, Shane again recalled the man he had met before passing out. He knew he had to do something about him but what? Should he try to get closer to the man? But from the way he looked at Shane, Shane was better off filling a cracked bucket with water. Still, Shane had a feeling that the man was the key to unlocking his memories.

How should he go about it? The more he thought about it, the more blanks opened up so opting to start at the base, Shane resolved to know more about himself. Now that he decided where to start, Shane began formulating a plan for himself.

The first thing he should do is ask his father about himself, then when he gets back to their house, he could look around his personal stuff. Also, he does remember his father asking a man on what he does...was it Howie? Howard? He couldn't remember, but that might lead to the fact that he has someone monitoring him so they must know something about him.

Finalizing his first step of the plan, Shane contently allowed himself to rest.

----------

"Papa, what was I like?" Shane asked his father as he was peeling a few apples for him to eat. Shane had taken a second to admire his father's knife skills.

"Hmm...Well you have always been a good kid. Although you did like to party a lot but I guess it's just what kids do these days" His father absently replied.

Shane internally deadpanned. This kind of doting should have a limit right?

"Papa, " Shane persuaded more "I really want to know more about myself. Maybe it will help me recover my memories" he then gave his father a wide smile.

"Ah. Shane doesn't need to know about the past. Shane looks pretty good right now" His father ignored him. Shane's eye gave a twitch. He felt like this old man was purposely avoiding this topic. He had been hinting about it since his father arrived in his hospital room but the old man always found ways to redirect the topic.

It really seems like there is something he doesn't want Shane to find out.

Shane pursed his lips into a straight line. How would the previous Shane act like? Based on this old man... his father's attitude he should be spoiled. He still remembered what his father's words were at the dining room.

"Shane? Why are you so quiet today? Did you want something? Papa will give it to you"

That should be a testament that Shane is pampered and spoiled. So if he plays this right, he could finally get answers.

"Papa, doesn't want to help me" Shane finally said, cringing slightly at the spoiled tone he used.

His father was shocked and immediately put down the knife and apples. The way he acted so flustered, Shane couldn't help but find it funny.

"Shane, what? Papa wants to help you. " he chided Shane "What made you think I didn't?"

"Papa has been avoiding all my questions and doesn't want to tell me anything" Shane gave a pout for good measure. He commended himself for his acting and that he hadn't actually gagged yet.

"The doctor said not to rush the memories or it might cause some damage to you."

"The doctor also said I can learn what I want in a moderate pace" Shane countered acting every bit like a spoiled child. It did seem to be working though, he could see his father breaking any time soon.

After a while, his father finally spoke.

"Papa's just worried that you won't like what you hear." his father finally confessed. His words got Shane's attention.

Hesitating slightly, Shane found himself asking "Why Papa? I really want to know" This time Shane's voice held sincerity.

His father heaved a sigh, giving in to his son's demands.

"But Shane please tell me if something is happening with you" his father's word sounded worried and afraid that Shane couldn't help but agree. So Shane nodded his head.

His father called the butler (Howard was his name) and to bring along something. Shane couldn't really hear what they were talking about but he is satisfied that he will finally learn something about himself.

It took a while for Howard to come back and for the mean time both father and son were eating the peeled apples.

When Howard did come back he was holding an old album in his hands. It looked old but it was still in good condition. The owner probably took a lot of good care of it. It must be really important.

Howard passed the album to his father who set it on the bed just beside Shane so that both of them can look. Shane saw the gold engraving on the cover of the album. He might not be a jeweler but he had a feeling that real authentic gold was used.

His father opened the album and Shane could see that it was filled to the brim with pictures of all sorts. His father then began to tell him the story of each pictures.

----------

Shane stared at the door that just closed. His father had to go home and get ready for work again. But Shane could see the underlying emotions behind his father. It was hard for his father to relieve those memories, especially of his mother. Shane might not remember her but from the way his father described her, she had been a wonderful woman.

Shane had learned a lot about his life. Unfortunately, it didn't trigger any memories or maybe it was fortunate that it didn't trigger any memories if what had happened before happened again.

His name was Shane Tyre, only son of Mason Tyre, owner of FM, formerly Tyre, conglomerate. His mother was Fiera Keiths third daughter of Heron Keiths, owner of Caves Mining corp. His parents were childhood friends which eventually married. Shane found their story sweet, his mother was an assertive hot headed woman while his father was cold and stoic. It was a wonder how they got together but they did and Shane had been born. Their families had no problem with them getting married as it would strengthen their businesses. Both had a happy marriage. But then tragedy struck.

Fiera had taken Shane, when he was 4, on to a mining expedition to oversee and to spend some time. No one could have predicted the landslide that occured causing the deaths of more than 50 workers that day. Fiera did her best to protect her son and in doing so she lost her life. Shane then was rescued after a few hours but the damage had been done. He had been traumatized causing an excessive fear of darkness. His father told him all about the time when he would wake up screaming from nightmares and when he had to be drugged to sleep. This was when his father's overly doting nature came to be, Shane deduced. Shane was the only one left for his father.

Through extensive therapy and medication, Shane began to recover but his phobia of darkness remained. His body also couldn't take on much stress due to the event causing him to have a weak constitution. Because of being overly doted on by his father, Shane became spoiled, at least from what he could tell. Shane couldn't exactly remember. All he knew was that every time he would ask something, his father always gave it to him, there were pictures to attest for that. His father even seemed proud as he recounted all the different things he bought Shane.

There was a Ferrari, just because Shane had seen a movie about cars on TV. He also had a pony. Never mind that Shane was just eight at that time, there was even a picture of a miniature mountain of jewelries with Shane in the middle. Apparently he liked shiny, expensive things. The amount of precious gems there could set three families for life!

Finally, his father had explained to him his high school days. Shane had been home schooled until then. His father told him how he had begged to go to school and meet some people and although his father was reluctant to do so, he was powerless against his son's demands and so Shane went to school.

Contrary to what is expected, Shane excelled in his academics. There were pictures of him with various medals and trophies of all kinds. He didn't do much sports though, as he wasn't allowed to because of his constitution. The only thing he did was horse riding and even that was limited. Yet what his father hadn't explicitly told him was that Shane had taken his personality to school. He was arrogant and haughty. He couldn't take when things wouldn't go his way and would snap. This resulted in Shane getting into a lot of conflicts but they couldn't fight back because of Shane's background so they could only bend their necks to his whims. This caused a lot of people to resent him.

Actually, his father didn't say any of those stuff. This was only a result of Shane's deduction but how else would you find someone who complained to their father about not liking a person at school and their father actually got them out of the school. Or someone who complained that didn't like this and that and their father actually got rid of it.

This was what Shane had complained to his father. Shane didn't like the blue color and size of the locker so he complained and got his father to get the school to change them. He didn't like the uniforms, he complained, they were changed. He didn't like how a teacher taught, he complained, the next day there was a new one. He didn't like being bored so he caused blew things up in the chemistry lab. He didn't like that he had the same accessory as someone so he ripped his off and threw a tantrum causing the school to call his father, from what his father told him (Now Shane knew that every accessory he wore was specifically customized for him). Surely, the people at school would resent him for what he's done.

What was odd was that Shane insisted that he went to a public school rather than a prestigious academy. What went on in his head during that time, the present Shane would never know. Thankfully high school was over and he was in University taking up a business course. He found that he was quite toned down during university since he did not complain as much. He also had a group of friends whom he was also friends with in high school. He was just glad he had at least friends, though friends or sycophants he still didn't know. He made a mental note to verify that.

His father also informed him of his recent habit of partying and going to clubs after school. This was why his father had tightened his security around him, adding a few bodyguards to monitor him and his health. Shane had no problem about it, stated his father, as long as they wouldn't get in the way.

After that, they moved on to lighter topics such as Shane's achievements and shopping antics. He actually had $5000 to spend a week! What he did spend it for, even the guards didn't know. All they know was that every time Shane went on a shopping spree, the bags he brought home would be tossed into his room and he would arrange those himself. He didn't let just anyone touch them unless it was time for cleaning and even then it had to be done with how he wanted and which servant he wanted it to do.

Shane was starting to not like his old self more and more. He was a spoiled self entitled, rich brat. Should he be actually glad that he lost his memories and finally opened up his eyes to reality?

The only thing that bothered him was that he didn't even get to know who that guy he met was. He did try asking but his father told him that he was better off without him then switched to another topic. The way his father had said it made chills crawl down his back so he resolved to just learn about the man himself.

Taking a piece of paper and pen, which he found in the drawer of the nightstand he wrote about what he learnt about himself.
