1 Prologue (Revised)

I stretched and sighed, "Another day of work done."

I had just finished with teaching today and was ready to head home to my girlfriend and to the weekend. Our arguments had been escalating recently and I thought she might want a break, of course, or rather, hopefully, it'd be temporary.

I didn't know that hoping would be the worst thing I could've done.

Anyway, since I'd finished with teaching for the week and decided to head home early to ask about whether or not we should take a break from each other.

After an hour or so, I had made it back to our apartment. I previously messaged my girlfriend and had asked if she was coming home yet, to which she replied at that moment:

<Can't tonight, doing a night shift.>

I don't know if I was just that naïve, stupid, a huge fool or all of the above at that time but I just replied lovingly, not knowing this was the first sign.

<Stay as long as you need ♡>

I got the read receipt but no return message so I decided to leave it alone and ordered a pizza to eat while binging the first season of TTIGRAS since my best friend Jeff recommended it to me. Although he didn't help to tip me over at that time, he wasn't there to help either.

So, I binged the season that night, I had really enjoyed the show, personally, the se- oh! I forgot to introduce myself! Tsk, such a foolish blunder.

My name is Rose Riso ## years old, currently a swimming teacher and previously a math teacher, during my toxic relationship of course. I was extremely average, not just my face but also everything else. I sported the normal brown hair and eyes with the only outstanding facial feature I had be cornea of my eyes, it was a sky blue, a sign of Arcus Senilis. No doubt because of the large amounts of eggs, shellfish and yoghurt I've always eaten. The only outstanding fact about me is that all students I've taught have graduated with at least 80% in their math tests. My unique teaching method is useful, no doubt.

Anyways, the situation just worsened over the next years. I gave her the space she wanted and occasionally invited her on fancy dates or movies, even the beach. She never went to the beach dates, I don't know if she hates the beach or something else but she doesn't ever go.

Eventually, after two to three years of this continuous back and forth, I invited her to a dinner to finally ask about whether she wanted to take a break or not.

She finally accepted, the day after accepting we decided to meet up at the fanciest restaurant in our town, a Corsican restaurant called 'Bistecca Ristorante'.

"Now then, that's all for today, the bell will go shortly so you can pack up now. Make sure to bring your homework on pulleys in on Monday, if you don't I WILL track you down."

I made an 'I'm watching you gesture.'

"You know I will."

Laughter burst out from around the classroom and a smile slipped onto my face. Out of all the classes I taught, the 15 to 17 year old class was the best to teach on any of the days.

Saying goodbye to those around me as I left, I enjoyed teaching at least.

That was the only thing that stayed the same after that night.

Only that, how I taught and my relations with a few people.

I made my way to the restaurant after I finished work and waited at the entrance for her.

I waited for two hours, not even going in when it started to rain, that was all before a fancy car pulled up.

At first glance, I had ignored it but after the people left the car, one of the butlers walked up to me while the others went in alone.

"A letter for you sir."

This butler wasn't like Sebastian from Overlord. He had a look of disguised disgust and fury in his eyes. Even disguised, it was easy for me to understand the look.

After all, it was the same as the reason I left home.

I took the letter and put it in my pocket safely before waiting for another hour. In that time.

No one came, I did realise something though.

That couple that came out of the car, that woman was without a doubt my girlfriend. It took a while but it finally registered, that was the only reason that butler would walk up to me.

My eyes darkened and unknown to myself, the previous brown eyes I had diluted with the sky blue ring around it, turning into a murky ocean blue that seemed deep enough to devour everything.

I took out and opened the letter. There was only a phrase.

'I'm breaking up with you.'

Seeing him like that, I don't know what it was that I felt, but, I had a feeling it was satisfaction.

Ruining him like that, destroying that smile he wore coming home after teaching those 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀. It made me satisfied that those 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 would lose their teacher. Their 'happiness'. It just made me happy knowing that those fucking brats would lose something because of me just like I lost something from them.

An hour or so passed with me just talking to my new boyfriend, I find him great, he's a lovely person. A bit possessive but that's fine.

Out of the corner of my eyes, I caught a glimpse of movement. I saw him leaving.

But, when I saw his eyes, it was as if time dared not move.

I saw an illusion.

An ocean blue dragon with eyes as deep as the deepest sea stared back at me. It's gaze being that of the abyss.

"Are you okay?"

I turned back, snapped out of my stupor by my boyfriend and nodded with a smile.

"It's nothing." I responded while thinking. 'An illusion, that's all it was.'

I saw that my boyfriend called his butler and whispered for a bit but I ignored it and enjoyed the rest of the dinner.

---=[PoV: Rose]=---

I left at that time. I decided I'd go to that seaside cliff I usually sit at to calm my mind, oblivious to the whispers of the butler and his master.

So, I got in my car and drove absentmindedly. While making my way to the cliff, I briefly thought about whether my students would miss me if I died, but, it remained that.

A brief thought.

After arriving, I walked up and soon woke up from my daze, staring as the rain hit the ocean which smashed onto the shores and the cliffside.

I admired it for ages until a heard a squishing sound from behind.

Knowing it was the person I felt was following I stepped back and to the left, grabbing the person's wrist and throwing him, he was slightly panicked at my reaction. They hit the cliff ground and when I was about to secure them I heard a sound.

*CRRK*

I turned in time to see the ground split, the portion with me and the assailant falling towards the ground. As we fell, I simply gazed at the rain, ignoring all of it and staring into space. I wondered at that moment.

Not about my family.

Not about my friends.

Not about my girlfriend.

'I wonder if Fred and my students will be alright.'

And then, feeling the contact against my back and my head.

I blacked out.
