26 The Twins

After finishing her small chat with Hannah, Colleen stood up and said "Alright, everyone enough with the warmup. Let's go and do some actual training now."

She then walked toward Jared and asked "Jared would you first like to watch them train and practice a little with them or will you have a spar with Maya first?"

Jared glanced toward Maya who looked at him practically jumping in excitement. She wanted to show what she had practiced up until now.

Jared chuckled looking at her and said "I guess Maya is running out of patience already. Let's just start with the spar."

Colleen took out two wooden swords from the racks and handed one to Maya and the other to Jared. She then looked at Jared and said "It won't matter how hard to hit the sword but it matters how fast you do it and with the precision you do it. Technique trumps strength."

'Technique trumps strength huh? Wait till you eat a punch from Jessica Jones or even better The Hulk.' Jared thought as he nodded and stepped in the middle of the dojo. The others sat down on the side to watch the fight and Maya also took her place. She and the other kids were currently wearing black karate clothes and while Maya and a few others had white belts, a few of the students had black belts.

Colleen being the judge of the spar stood in the middle looked at both of them standing on either side shouted "START" and took a swift step back.

Jared stood in his with the sword in his left hand. The top of the sword was also just a few inches from touching the ground.

"He has never held a sword before. Look at him so many openings. He should have least held the sword in front of him to defend himself and he seems to be left-handed as well." One of the students said to which both Colleen and Hannah nodded. The boy was right…the current stance that Jared had was full of openings. It was as if he wasn't even trying to fight seriously.

'He must be underestimating Maya since she is a girl. I have been through this many times. I think Maya will be able to prove him wrong like I did with the boys in my batch.' Colleen thought.

Maya who expected Jared to take the initiative to attack saw him just standing around but instead of getting angry at that, she smiled and rushed at Jared. If she is getting a chance to make the first move then it's well and good for her.

After taking two swift steps toward Jared, Maya swung her sword diagonally toward Jared's left shoulder to make it hard for him to swing his sword after the attack. Colleen was happy to see that Maya had made the right move. If the opponent's sword-wielding arm is the first thing that is injured or disabled, the fight immediately becomes one-sided and Colleen and the others expected to happen just that but the smiles and excitement on their faces disappeared the next second.

Jared who was just standing lazily quickly swung his sword from down to the top. This not only stopped the momentum of Maya's sword but even threw it off course. Seeing her sword attack get parried like this, Maya was a bit surprised as she didn't expect Jared to make such a move. As Jared's attack forced her sword to move away from him, Maya tried her best to gain control of her sword so that she could make another move but as her attention was focused on her own hand and sword, she didn't notice when Jared took a step further and stood right beside her. She only found that out when she felt Jared's wooden sword touch her neck.

Shocked by this she looked at Jared who had a smirk on his face. Hannah and the others were also surprised to see that the boy who was just standing casually a second ago now had his sword pressed against the opponent's neck.

Colleen who was confident about Maya's win was focused on Maya's sword. 'How can a kid this young perform such a perfect parry? Parrying a sword was not something even black belts could do so smoothly. Although he should have kept the motion of the sword constant and attacked Maya's stomach, but what he had accomplished without being trained was remarkable.'

"The win goes to Jared." Colleen announced as she stepped on the dojo. Maya looked at Colleen with sorry eyes and said "I apologize sensei, I couldn't defeat him. I didn't expect my attack to be thrown off."

Colleen smiled and comforted Maya as she knew that it wasn't Maya's fault. Jared on the other hand stood there holding the sword. 'I was taught how to use a knife and a few other blades before they let me touch a gun. Although I used this technique to cut a person's hand holding a weapon, just increasing the distance between me and Maya made it a parry. The aim towards the neck was something I did out of habit as we always aim for vitals.' Jared thought. As he was busy thinking, Jared and the others heard a voice from the entrance of the dojo "I didn't think you would stoop low enough to go against girls."

As Jared and the others looked at the door, they saw the Rossi twins Lucia and Lucas Rossi standing with bags on their shoulders.

"Lucas, Lucia…you found the address." Colleen said. Lucia nodded and walked in the dojo followed by Lucas.

"Lucia…I didn't know you were going to join this class as well." Maya said as she walked toward Lucia who smiled and said "Colleen sensei usually gives us private lessons at our estate. She has been doing so for the past 2 years. Both of us are black belt now and she said that we would get to spar with good opponents if we came to her dojo to train."

"And look what we find..heh...a boy fighting against new girls to prove his strength." Lucas said tauntingly as he looked at Jared. Although he expected the others in the dojo to join him in mocking Jared no one said a single thing.

"No no…you are misunderstanding something Lucas. Jared isn't a student here. This is the first time he came here because I wanted him to try this out. And he defeated fair and square so no need to diss him on that." Maya said siding with Jared which pissed Lucas even more. Colleen and Hannah didn't interfere as they wanted the kids to figure it out himself but they noticed that Jared hadn't said a single word until now.

Jared completely ignored Lucas and turned toward Lucia. "I didn't know you liked mixed martial arts especially the one with swords." He said swinging the wooden sword between his fingers.

Lucia stepped toward Jared and said "They are many such things you don't know about me. Maybe you should pay more attention instead of just dilly dallying around in the school."

Hannah and Colleen lifted their eyebrows as they heard this. They understood what kind of a signal Lucia was giving so they couldn't help but smile. Before Jared could say anything to that, his phone started ringing which was in his bag.

"Can I?" Jared asked Colleen who just nodded. As he picked up the phone, his aunt's voice was heard on the other side.

"Aunt May? What is it?"

"I know you are at the dojo with Maya and Hannah but can you go to the school. I am on my way there myself." Aunt May said.

"The school? Now? Why, what happened?" Jared asked loud enough for the others in the dojo to hear.

"Me and a few other parents have gotten a message about one of the professors in the college and his past. Ned's parents are called me when I saw I received a similar message. Everyone is going to the school right now. Peter is already there with his friends."

"Okay…I'll be there." Jared said. He understood that Ryan had successfully done what he had asked him to.

Jared picked up his bag and looked at Colleen and said "I am sorry…I might have to come here some other time."
