Misery

"Help me! HELP! SOMEBODY HELP ME!" The blood-curdling sound of a scream is something I haven't heard in many years. Even so, I recognize it. This is someone's last plea for their life. The desperation seeps through his voice. It's a voice that would shatter fragile hearts. Even so, by the way he's screaming I can tell it's a cry on deaf ears. Ryan starts walking in the opposite direction, seemingly uninterested. I stop leaning on him and get ready to enter the city. The screams don't stop, they only grow more desperate. "I'm going to die! Why are you all just watching!?" Ryan doesn't comment on my decision to limp towards the city. I guess this is our goodbye. I reach the city and stare bewildered at the scene. Six people dressed in a guild's robe surround a large wooden stake. The screams come from the top of it. One of the guild members speaks. "This is what happens to those who defy us. Know your place and you won't end up like him. He lights a match and tosses it under the stake. NO Why does no one help him? Does fear rule over sympathy? Are they all too afraid of death to stand up to someone about to be tortured to death? The stake lights on fire and his screams are no longer ones of fear. They're screams of agony and imminent death. I sprint forward, ignoring the injuries and ignoring my pain, I charge towards the one who lit the stake on fire and deck him in the face. Blood spurts from his mouth. I look him in the eyes and he stares at me vengefully. I return his stare with killing intent. I turn back to the crowd in bewilderment. They stand with their eyes peeled open standing still, not daring to make an action for fear of choosing the wrong side."How could you all just watch this? They've burnt someone to death here, and all of you just stood and watched. What could he have done to have deserved such a punishment? What did he do that would earn him the neglect of all of you!? Could it be that all thirty of you onlookers were afraid of six people just because they wear some fancy armor and A few pins declaring they're from a guild?" A sword swings at me from behind but I saw it coming seconds prior to now. His steps are too loud, his breathing too notable. I could see the swing's direction in his arms movement allowing me to easily dodge. I grab him by the collar of his shirt and tear the pin off. I turn back to the crowd, disgusted by their actions. "This symbol means nothing here. If we are to be here for two years, that's two years these so-called guilds can not come after us. Only their children who have yet to gain any power lie here to suppress us. Do you all still dare to let them be tyrants for these two years?" The one I'm grabbing struggles but his arms are weak compared to mine. I throw him onto the ground and look past him. There are three total stakes, and each is a carcass burnt to a crisp. The smell of burnt flesh fills the air and causes my stomach to churn. It's sickening. The way these people have claimed this world as their own. How little they value life, slaughtering without bias as soon as they've entered this world. But more than anything. I look back to see the onlookers' faces. Paralyzed with fear when they haven't even done anything. They let these three people die knowing the next could be one of them. This is it, the filth that I've been desiring to clear out ever since I was young. The one I pushed to the ground is helped up by his teammates. They bear their blades and get ready to fight me. I look at them scornfully. "You draw your blades in a six v one. Even when I'm injured and each word I speak is hardly bearable.." I reveal the injury at my sides causing gasps among the crowd. "Do none of you dare to help me? Will I be forced to lie on that stake and spend my last moments cursing all of you for letting me die in such a way?" For a few seconds, no one says anything. Until one daring soul breaks the silence. "Kill him! He dared to go against the Scorpio guild!" It starts small, but soon most of the crowd is rooting for my death. "He's asking to die!" "You get to die with those as your last words." They cheer for it as one would cheer for a feast. So sickening. The corruption spreads through ears like a virus. These people desire the death of someone just because of their courage. I laugh, "Alright then, once I'm done with these six I'll go for all of you." This silences them. I wonder how such cowardly people survived this long. Even though with my personality I probably won't survive long either. A spear rushes at me and I dodge. Their form is all too basic. I can see each attack coming from the direction his feet are pointing and the position of his arm. I keep dodging until I see an opening. I grab his dominant arm. (Left) Then proceed to break it. It's like breaking a large twig that resists. I hate the feeling. He screams dramatically, but I have no sympathy. The pain of having your arm broken is nothing compared to that of burning alive. He drops his spear and I grab it. He crumples to the ground and I stab him in the head. He dies a quick death. I stare at the other five. Now they'll realize that we're in the same boat. Any one of us could die here. Four of them come at once and I ready myself. "Let's do this." Two of them have swords, one has a metal pole and one has no weapons visible. The two with swords attack first. They're both vertical attacks aimed at my arms so I slide in between the attacks and go for the one holding a pole. I stab with my spear, but he parries the attack and hits me in the head with it. My head rings and I can't think straight so I stop thinking. I surrender my muscles to instinct and rely on that. When I regain my senses I have several minor bruises but so do they. One of the people with a sword laughs. "It's over for you now, didn't you wonder why only three of us attacked you? The last one learned how to use magic before he got here. The atmosphere changes and I start feeling hot. The four people in front of me walk to either the right or left revealing a massive ball of fire aimed at me. It's really over this time. The massive ball of fire hasn't propelled at me yet. I estimate I have three seconds. Three seconds to decide my fate. Life or death, action or acceptance. I chuck my spear at the fireball and drop onto the ground protecting my head. I don't know much about the physics of fire, but if I'm lucky, I hit befor- BOOM!" My ears ring and feel wet, my vision is dizzy but I don't feel any pain. With each second my mind becomes exponentially cluttered until I pass out.

I know the main character is kind of getting handled at the moment, but don't worry that will change in the future... eventually... definitely... probably.
