Chapter 5

"Haha, was my deal that bad, you had to take a whole minute to decide?" Raoul asked while laughing with his arms on his side. "When should we start?"

'Shit I need to start today but how do I say that without seeming either too eager or like something's off' as if to save me from my stupor Raoul soon continued "I'm not to busy today, if you want we can get started in about an hour. As far as a bow to practice with you can use my training bow until you get enough money to buy one."

"Thank you, and yes that would be great were should we go practice?" normally the woods outside the village walls would be optimal for practicing if it weren't for the orcs sitting outside.

"We can meet at the archery range, it's not to far from here and its good practice for a beginner like you. After a bit of practice you take charge for the work-out."

I didn't even think about an archery range, I guess it does make sense for there to be one with all the people and monsters everyone has to look out for. "Sure, ill meet you in an hour then… As far as the food when should we eat it?"

Raoul seemed to be having a great time at my expense "Haha, that's why I said one hour from now. I have some food inside I figured you probably hadn't eaten yet and this way we have energy for our workout." He said all of this while trying to hold in his laughter.

I accompanied him inside where he made each of us five eggs, some bacon, and some bread. As I started to eat my food, some text appeared in my vision again.

({Daily Quest}: Calorie count 198 out of 2500) As annoying as it is having text appear in my vision, I realized just how much of a lifesaver this was. First off I have no idea how to count calories, second how am I supposed to figure out when I've run 3 kilometers. Now if I'm right since it's counting my calories it should also count my push-ups, sit-ups, and my distance run. For now I'll save it for later, once our work out starts I'll know for sure.

As I finished my food my total calorie count was at 740, which only helped to show just how hard it was going to be to eat 2500 calories. After some quick math I figured if I ate roughly the same amount of food for each meal as well as a decent snack I should meet my requirement.

Raoul and I walked together towards the archery range while he explained to me how to position my arrow for ease of use while also demonstrating how to quick draw from a quiver (arrow basket strapped to back). Once we finally arrived, it was relatively empty with only two people sitting in a corner talking to each other about the gods only know what; but it had to be a thrilling conversation with their elaborate expressions.

We spent two and a half hours practicing shooting a target where I managed to hit the bull's-eye only once by accident. My arms were so tired my back was aching and my sweat was dripping down my face. We decided to rest for a good 30 minutes before starting our work out which also gave me the opportunity to pick the location for said workout. Given we'd both be touching the floor with our hands it'd probably be best to pick a spot that doesn't allow animals through.

Finally I picked a location in my mind, which just so happened to be a park. As weird as that sounds, without going inside a park was the best place for our workout given donkeys and horses weren't allowed in the designated park. So the few animals it did have were not enough to be noticeable.

I decided to start with the run to give my arms a bit more of a break and luckily the only park happened to be quite a ways away. We ran from the archery range to the park while doing our best to maintain a steady pace. All the while I was watching my mission slowly tick by confirming my earlier theory that the system would keep track of my distance travelled.

Once we arrived at the park we were both out of breath and we had finished running just over 2 kilometers still to short for the mission completion. We grabbed a drink from the nearby stream and started the sit-ups next. I had him sit on my feet while facing me and wrapping his arms around my legs to hold me in place while I quickly finished 125 sit-ups. We then switched positions and I held him in place while he did the same, and of coarse being Raoul he did one extra to one-up me. Following that we did 125 push-ups taking each of us roughly two minutes; then we repeated the process. Once we finished both the push-ups and the sit-ups we decided to run back to the house, which was between the park and the archery range. About three quarters of the way home I completed the 3 kilometers for the day.

We decided to walk the rest of the way home while we each ate an avocado on the way, which surprisingly brought my calorie count up to 1060. We sat in his house talking about bow and arrows while eating lunch; while he gave me tips for ways I might improve the following day. In addition he told me the various ways specific arrows are used on different prey. For instance you would use different arrows to hunt a fish with soft skin versus an orc, which has particularly thick skin. By the end of our conversation, and our meal, my calorie count was up to 1920 and we decided to look for a way to make money for a bow and arrow of my own.
