23 Melinda Olsen

The news about the second son of WT Group getting married had spread around the country. Even though the media didn't manage to get his photo because of the help that he got from his dad and Adam, still there were some netizens that had been digging and managed to get the side profile of him. He hated being exposed to the media, but well his dad, Michael and Adam thought at least his side profile should've let known. They needed to let others know about Alexander, a part of their business strategies, they said.

Amidst the news that surrounded the whole country, there was a woman that sat on her chair crying, regretting everything. Melinda stared at her phone, she had been trying to call and messaging Alexander since a few days ago, but no answer.

'Did he change his phone number?' She opened her social media and looked at their photos that she hid when she broke up with him. Sighed, she kept on scrolling her phone, finding info that she could. She read the news about the wedding a few days ago, and when she found out that Alexander was the second son of WT Group, she was shocked and it was unbearable. All emotions came rushing in. She felt sad, betrayed, regretful and mad. But to whom should she direct all of this to?

Her wedding didn't work out, two month at most. CEO of the pillow company? That was all a scam. She and her family got scammed into believing that he was a successful businessman. The trust she put in because her father convinced her all broke when he was detained for investigation for a pyramid scheme his company was involved in. Her parents' money was also invested in the company, as he said that they would get more lucrative returns after a month. Now, their two bakery shops were in crisis because of that. For her Alexander was her only hope.

"Are you sure WT Group could help us?" His dad suddenly came rushing into her room without knocking.

"What again?" Melinda was not in a mood. She did tell her parents when they were desperate to find a way to save their business but that seemed to be a bad decision when her dad kept on pushing her to go to WT Group asking for help.

"The wedding…" He stopped and stepped forward, sitting on the empty seat beside her.

"What is it?"

"It's going to be held at the Mega Hotel." He said, handing out his phone, the news that he read online just now was on the screen.

"What can I do?!" She was annoyed, pointed at the particular sentence, "See this, limited. Should I barge in then?" She gave the phone back harshly.

"You said, he loves you. Go then, stop the wedding!" Her dad's eyes reddened like he lost his insanity.

"Are you crazy?!"

"Yes!" He stood up, and rushed to her cabinet that was full with branded bags. He trashed all of them to the floor. "This! All of this, we spend our money just to support you and give you the best education. In the end you choose to be what? Yoga instructor? Can't you even help us this time?!"

"I married him and left Alex! I helped you! You are the one who brought us to this disaster! Why blame me?!" She thumped her chest feeling so frustrated. She could be with Alexander by now if not because of this nonsense marriage.

"Huh?" He sneered, mocking her words. "You agreed without hesitation! When you heard he was the CEO of a company, you didn't even blink a second. Stop lying with yourself! You! You by yourself leave him because you think he was nobody!" His words went directly into Melinda's heart. One by one, it sent her into a loss of words.

"Am I wrong?" His dad continued, "If you want to continue your lavish lifestyle, find any way you could to get him back!" He finished his word and left the room leaving Melinda who was still digesting the words that he said just now.

"If I go and ruin the wedding just for my own sake then what does that makes me?"

The big hotel that was served in front of her eyes, sent her legs shaking. After questioning her morals about a week ago, there she was, standing in front of the hotel entrance, trying to stop the wedding. Melinda stepped inside the revolving door, slowly walked to the receptionist counter.

"Excuse me, may I know the way to the wedding hall?" She did not know what she was asking actually, but as long as the girl at the counter understood that was enough.

"Wedding hall?"

"Yes, the wedding of WT Group-"

"Ahhh…it is on the top floor." The girl immediately answered, then she looked at her up and down. She dressed her best today to make it look like she was from the wealthy family, "make sure you bring along the invitation card, Madam." She sent her a courtesy smile.

"Ahh." The awkward smile formed on her lips when the girl mentioned the invitation card. She didn't have one! "Thanks. Is it this way?" She pointed to the left side to confirm.

"Yes Madam." The girl nodded again with both of her hands stayed in front of her stomach as a form of her work etiquette.

Entering the elevator, she was nervous checking out the number to push. Luckily no one was with her on the elevator.

"Is it forty five?" She looked at the button, that was the highest number there. Pushing the button, she anxiously waited for the elevator to reach the floor.

Ding!

She looked at herself in the reflection of the elevator and she could see that her face already lost her colours. Gulped, she plucked her courage and stepped out of it. There were several people waiting to enter a certain glass door and she could see clearly, there was an escalator that was heading upstairs.

"Welcome Miss, may I see the invitation card or you could simply tell me your name?" The bodyguard that was guarding there stopped her. He was ready with his tablet to check the invitation list.

"Ah, I left the card at home but I am the groom's friend." There was a trace of nervousness in his voice.

"It's okay, you can just tell me your name." The bodyguard still with his tightlipped smile waiting for her answer.

"Melinda…" She swallowed her saliva, then continued, "Melinda Olsen."

"Wait for a second Miss." He checked the list. His face contorted in confusion, "Sorry Miss, Melinda as in M E L I N D A?" He spelt the name, to try to find it once again.

She nodded. She knew her name won't be on the list but she didn't care. She would try whatever she could to enter.

"I'm sorry Madam, I couldn't find your name on the list. Are you sure you received the invitation?"

"Yes! The groom himself invited me, he called me about a week ago." If lying could help her, she would do it.

"Please wait here, I will ask someone to confirm it." The bodyguard's eyes grew suspicious as he saw Melinda's pale face and the countless gulping she did.

"Sure." She nodded and turned. She went to the seat that was prepared at the corner and looked outside the glass wall to calm herself.

"Madam…"

"Yes!" Startled, she stood up right away.

"Let me bring you to a room, the groom asks me to bring you there."

"He did?" Her eyes brightened.

"Yes, this way please."

Her legs lightened as she heard that he was willing to meet her. That was an opportunity that she shouldn't miss. Fixing her hair and dress, she followed behind the bodyguard.
