45 Picking Sides

"You sure about this, Daisy?" a young Colombian woman asked her leader. They were currently flying the Quinjet over to Europe to help out Captain America.

"Yeah. Coulson would take the Captain's side. We should as well," Daisy responded. Even though she had never met Captain America and would prefer to lean on the side of caution, the man needed help. And since he was someone her mentor believed in, she would provide that help.

"No use trying to convince her, Yo-Yo. She's in her Coulson mode," Joey already knew that they were stuck getting into whatever they were getting into

"Haha, don't remind me. Guess we gotta make sure she comes back to him in one piece."

Daisy turned around from the pilot's seat and looked at the pair seriously. "Guys, this is serious. Even if Captain America is in the right, we are still going against the United Nations. We could end up arrested or even dead."

"Nothing new. We are a team. Ride or die." Yo-Yo declared and Joey nodded. Daisy smiled at her two friends and teammates. She was glad to have them with her. Daisy turned back around and faced forward to focus on piloting.

"Next stop, Schkeuditz, Germany."

-- Schkeuditz, Germany --

Captain America threw his shield at the man in biker gear with a flaming skull but the shield bounced off of his head like nothing happened.

"You know this guy?" Falcon asked while unleashing two full clips from his SMGs.

"Nope. Thought he would be one of your friends," Sharon responded while shooting into the man's chest

Neither of their attacks seemed to affect him and both had to stop because the man had Barnes in his hands.

"Look into my eyes." the man commanded Barnes. The pair stared at each other for a few seconds. Barnes collapsed on the ground and seemed to have a hard time breathing but nothing dramatic happened. The skull face transformed into a normal human face and looked at Barnes in confusion.

"Each of your actions. You regret them. Even the ones that were not your choice."

Barnes looked up from the ground with sadness and self-hate in his eyes.

"When I was a soldier, a true soldier fighting for my country, there was nothing to be ashamed of. But all the lives I have been forced to take. All the broken memories. I have to live with the pain of that every day."

The man in the biker outfit turned around and looked at the others. He smiled sheepishly while rubbing the back of his head.

"My bad guys. I heard that he was a really bad guy and related to this gang I am chasing down. And well... I am the spirit of vengeance. My job is to punish the wicked."

Captain America stepped forward and stretched out his hand. "No hard feelings. Everyone has to fight for what they believe is right. And if that belief means you wanna help us as an apology, then we would be more than happy to have you on our side."

"Name's Roberto Reyes. Most people call me Robbie. When I have the flaming skull out, I usually go by Ghost Rider. And I'll be more than happy to help you guys out. Just tell me where the fight is," Robbie shook Cap's hand, agreeing to side with him.

And just like that, Captain America had come across one of the heaviest hitters in the universe, even if he didn't know it.

-- On a private jet flying over the middle of the ocean--

"Danny, brother. Why are we getting involved in this fight? We are just the people that work the street?" A large black man in a yellow shirt asked a smaller caucasian man

"Gotta agree with him," Jessica Jones said. "This is like going right into the lion's den."

"It is because it is the lion's den that we need to go," Danny tried to explain to other members of the Defenders

"He's right," the blind man said from the side. "We were busy with the HAND so we couldn't help stall or provide reasons why the accords shouldn't have been signed. But now that we have, we need to show solidarity. Show them that we know what we are doing and don't need oversight. Because if we don't, we will have to fight not only the HAND but Avengers as well."

Matt knew just what was at stake if they didn't go. The group was already supposed to be in jail for their actions. Even if they didn't go, they would be hunted. But if they were proactive and got the accords, repealed, they may even get pardoned for their previous crimes.

The group was split 50/50 so they turned to the only person left they could rely on. Danny's lucky coin. Luke picked it up and prepared to flip for it.

"Heads, we turn back around. Tails, we back up Captain America."

The coin was flipped. It landed. The plane didn't turn around.

-- Brooklynn, New York --

Tony Stark was sitting across from a couple. The trio was laughing and joking when they heard the front door open. They all stopped and turned their attention to the teen that had just entered.

"Hey, guys. Mr. Stark. Um, why is Mr. Stark here?"

"I'm here about the grant, Miles. The one you signed up for with that project of yours?"

"Oh, right. The project. That project. I nearly forgot about it." Miles pretended to know what Tony was talking about but was still very confused

"Do you guys mind if we talk privately in his room to go over the details of his project that need to be improved to get the final approval?" Tony looked at his parents and asked permission to which they easily agreed.

When the pair entered the room, Tony closed it and looked at the teen's confused face.

"So, Mr. Morales, you're the Spiderling? The Spider-Thing? Spider Boy?"

-- Schkeuditz, Germany --

Ororo, Idie, and Nezhno walked off the jet to see Natasha and J'Zaki waiting for them. The group boarded the car and began making their way back to the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre to wait for the other members of their side and come up with the plan of attack.
