42 Long Live The King

~2 years later

J'Zaki was accompanying his father to a conference in Vienna. A couple of months before it, several Wakandans were killed during an Avengers mission. After so many missions where innocent lives were lost and with Wakanda taking the lead, the Sokovia Accords were created.

The Sokovia Accords were a set of legal documents designed to control and regulate the activities of enhanced individuals, including members of government agencies such as S.H.I.E.L.D. or private organizations such as the Avengers. Established by the United Nations and ratified in 2016 by 117 countries, the Accords served as a legal response to international concerns over unsanctioned actions and consequences by enhanced individuals and members of the Avengers.

From the first Chitari invasion in New York to Captain America bringing down the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarriers in D.C. and then Sokovia. The Avengers had made far too many mistakes with no oversight. So now 117 countries were forcing oversight onto them.

J'Zaki stood next to his father, looking at all the politicians around him and he felt his skin curl. Each of these men and women were people that had abused the people beneath them to get to where they were. He had read about far too many of their actions from the data that Shuri had recovered from S.H.I.E.L.D.

"Boy. You are letting your contempt show" his father reminded him while smiling at the crowd.

"Good. Let them know that I look down on them. These cowards mean nothing to me." J'Zaki's voice was neither soft nor loud. Everyone around him could hear what he had to say about them and they all threw glances his way. Only one of those was friendly though.

A beautiful redhead walked over and greeted the king and prince.

"King T'Chaka. Prince J'Zaki. A pleasure to meet you both and hear about your opinions. It is not often that you are put in the spotlight," the woman said, referring to their small nation but she quickly apologized when she heard what she was implying. "I'm so sorry. I didn't me..."

"It appears that neither of us is used to the spotlight," J'Zaki glanced over her words. He knew she had no hard feelings so he wouldn't hold them against her. Especially since she was one of the first of the Avengers to sign the Accords.

She laughed lightly at his comment and thanked him in her mind for turning a blind eye to what she said.

"Well, it's not always so flattering."

"You seem to be doing alright so far... considering your last trip to Capital Hill. I wouldn't think you would be particularly comfortable in the company."

"I'm not but I need to put on a brave face. Plus, I get to meet individuals like you."

"And your honesty makes you glad that you are here, Ms. Romanoff."

"Why?" Natasha asked slightly confused. "You don't approve of all of this?"

"The accords, yes." J'Zaki gestured to all of the people around them. "The people signing them, not so much. They speak of accountability but hold none of their own. Like there."

J'Zaki pointed to an overweight woman.

"Her son has killed 19 young women over the past year. All because they resemble the ex-girlfriend that broke his heart. And she has been covering up each of the murders by sending innocent men in his place. Or there."

He pointed to an old, balding man.

"He has gotten nearly 100 women pregnant while he has been in office. Each of them was either forced to abort the child or went missing. This is why Wakanda usually stays out of the affairs of others. The outside world is too terrible."

"Oh? And Wakanda is a utopia?" Natasha asked, curious about the nation. Everyone knew it was poor and had a monarchy but that was it. Even she couldn't find any dirt on it.

"As close to one as humanly possible. If we open up our borders one day, I will be sure to send you an invitation."

"Then I'll have to thank your highness in advance. And I must say this to you officially. I am sorry about what happened in Nigeria."

"Thank you, Ms. Romanoff. It looks like the meeting is about to get started. Let us continue speaking afterward."

"I look forward to it."

Everyone in the conference room took a seat except for J'Zaki who stood at the wall nearby and King T'Chaka who stood at the podium to make a speech. He was looking around at the nearby rooftops around them to ensure that there was no one heading up to them or already on top and trying to snipe one of the politicians there. Once he confirmed it was safe, he deactivated his eyes.

Something he would regret for the rest of his life.

"When stolen Wakandan Vibranium was used to make a terrible weapon, we in Wakanda were forced to question our legacy. Those men and women killed in Nigeria were part of a goodwill mission from a country too long in the shadows. We will not, however, let misfortune drive us back. We will fight to improve the world we wish to join. I am grateful to the Avengers for supporting this initiative. Wakanda is proud to extend its hand in peace."

T'Chaka was standing on the podium and delivering his speech. All seemed to be going well at the moment. It happened too fast. He wasn't expecting it. He couldn't even imagine it.

A large explosion came out of nowhere and knocked J'Zaki into the wall. He lost consciousness for only a moment but when he regained it, he saw the spot where his father was speaking was empty. Instead, his father had flown several feet ahead and was lying on his back.

J'Zaki rushed over to check on his father and see if he could treat his wounds but the man's injuries were fatal. Not to talk about J'Zaki preparing a spell, he wasn't even able to say a word to his father before his demise.

The next hour was a blur. He didn't know what happened. All he knew was that he was outside and had just been treated by a paramedic when Natasha Romanoff walked over to him.

"I am so sorry for your loss, pr... King J'Zaki. A task force is being put together and we will bring that man to justice."

J'Zaki felt something hard in his palm. He looked down and noticed that he had somehow gotten his father's ring. The ring that symbolized the person holding it was the king of Wakanda.

J'Zaki placed the ring on his finger before standing up and walking past Natasha.

"No need, Ms. Romanoff. I'll kill him myself."
