Chapter 1: Prologue

"Hey! Watch it, Dickhead!" The girl sitting next to me reprimanded. She had long golden blonde hair that almost reached the middle of her back and emerald eyes that looked at me with discontent.

"I didn't fucking mean to hit you!" I replied indignantly.

"Both of you, knock it off. Now. Or else I'll turn this car around and we will drive back home." A stern voice cut through from the front seat. The annoying little bitch sitting next to me? That's my sister Summer. We're always at each other's throats for something or another.

"He hit me! And he doesn't even get punished for that? Clearly this family has a favorite." She rolled her eyes.

"The only reason I'm even here is cause I was forced to come along to your competition, so don't play the favorite card." I retorted angrily.

"Of course you came with us," the voice cut back in, "we are going to cheer on your sister at her competition. And I'm not leaving you home alone for a week."

"She's right you know." Another voice rang out from the front seat, although this one was noticeably deeper. "We aren't just gonna leave a teenage boy home alone. Who knows what kinda trouble you'll get into." Those voices? They belonged to my parents. My mom, Lisa, and my father, David. They were decently good looking people and made a pretty average amount of money. Not so little that we had to go out of our way to save, but not so much that we could enjoy a lavish lifestyle.

"I wish you didn't have to come, I would've had much more fun without you here." Summer crossed her arms.

"That makes two of us." I replied

Mom turned around and looked us both in the eyes.

"Summer Alexandra Smith, be kind to your brother. He rode all the way to watch you perform. And you, Max. Don't antagonize your sister. You'll lea-" Mom started.

"Mom look out!" Summer shouted.

I refocused my attention on the road, and blinding lights filled my vision. I felt my body jerk forwards. Then everything went black.
