Inside of what looked to be a rather large apartment was a young man no older than seventeen, he appeared rather lean with fair skin, though visible muscles could be seen on his arms. The male had black straight hair and a pair of sharp sea-blue eyes.

This was none other than Kazuna Akira.

While his status was rather unknown to those in the real world, anyone within the gaming industry knew him simply as Genesis. He was revered as potentially the most skilled gamer across the globe, earning first place in a multitude of world-class gaming competitions.

Of course, his actual identity of Kazuna Akira was kept anonymous, by his request. He had long foreseen the potential annoyances that would come with people knowing who he was in real-life, he just had no intentions of wanting to deal with them.

However, all of happiness and glory he had acquired from winning those competitions couldn't at all be compared to the excitement he was feeling right now. Today was the day the very first VRMMO was going to be released, Unlimited Fantasy Online.

The game promised its future players a thrilling adventure of infinite possibility, a world full of mystery to explore with your friends. It was without a doubt the most anticipated game ever since it was officially announced over three whole years ago.

For someone like Akira, due to his status in the gaming world, he was one of the very lucky few that were given an immediate pre-order of the game and would be one of the first to obtain it once the game was officially released, that day being today.

With anticipation filling his body, Akira stared at the rather large capsule like device in his room. It truly looked like something out of a sci-fi film, a beautiful white metal with a tinted blue glass covering above where the person was to lie down on.

"I wonder if Risa is still trying to convince Kaede to join the game." Akira suddenly wondered as he picked up his phone from the desk. When he did, he saw a number of messages that were sent into a group chat. "Yep, it'd be pretty interesting to see Kaede playing a game."

The two individuals Akira was talking about were two of his real-life friends from school, those being Honjou Kaede and Shiramine Risa. Risa was a professional gamer like he was, Kaede on the other hand probably hadn't ever even touched a gaming console before.

In any case, they weren't like him and hadn't been given the game six hours in advance to the official release date. From what he knew, only one hundred players had actually been given the game in advance, either due to status like him or by that luck of the draw thing the company did.

"Alright, here we go!" Stretching his limbs, Akira let out a deep breathe before clicking a button on the capsule. This prompted the glass covering to open up, to which Akira nodded before calmly lying himself down inside. "How do I start this again? Oh, right... Link Start!"

Immediately after saying that, the glass covering lowered itself as a bright light illuminated from within the capsule, though the light seemed to be contained within and was unable to even escape through the glass covering.

Soon enough, Akira felt his consciousness shift.

Seconds later, Akira snapped his eyes open to find himself once again standing back up. However, he wasn't in his room nor in the capsule, he seemed to be standing in a white void on top of a metallic platform with complex runic artworks imprinted onto its surface.

『Unlimited Fantasy Online』

"Woah, this is crazy..." Akira shook his head once he saw the holographic screen of the games title appear in front of him. Soon enough the screen started to shift before changing to display a different set of text. "Of course, the first thing is selecting a name."

After a quick moment of silence, a smirk appeared on Akira's face.

『Name: Genesis』

"I'm honestly surprised, no one took my name. Then again, other professional players would probably want to improve their own name in the gaming community."

The screen then shattered before a new menu soon appeared, though unlike before, there seemed to be a hologram appearing beside the menu showing a humanoid character wearing what looked to be a suit of iron plated armour.

『Please select a starting class from the following list』

『➤ Swordsman』

『➤ Rogue』

『➤ Archer』

『➤ Mage』

『➤ Barbarian』

"Five different starting classes, huh? What to choose..." Holding his chin in thought, Akira began cycling through each class with a critical look in his eyes. As he switched between each class, the hologram also changed to match whatever he was currently looking at. "I see, so each class has their own starting stats, and no doubt probably each have their own pros and cons not shown here..."

The most important thing he saw here was no doubt the fact that depending on which class he chose, each time he levelled up a certain status category would increase by one. For example, if he held the Swordsman class, his Strength and Endurance would increase by one each level.

These were just starting classes as well, so there would no doubt be better ones he could obtain in the future either through a quest or something. For now though, he had to decide what kind of playstyle he wanted to go through the game with, at least for now.

The company had already released an explanation of each stat category prior to releasing the game, and Akira had made sure to read through it so he understood completely just what each stat parameter did and so he knew what he wanted to invest in.

To summarise it, strength obviously represented the amount of damage one did, agility was how fast someone could move, vitality determined the amount of health, dexterity was the person's ability to properly perform tasks, and intellect determined the amount of mana one had.

Vitality wasn't to be mistaken as defence either, they were entirely different things in this game. To properly explain, the stat parameter of vitality determined health, but the defence one had was solely determined by their equipment.

"I don't really want to be slow, but I also don't want to be too one-sided either..." Akira frowned slightly as he thought hard on this. After a few seconds, he finally decided. "Alright, it'll be a bit different, but I'm going to go with archer. It has quite the advantage, especially during the start of games."

Unlimited Fantasy Online was a game of freedom, meaning it gave its players freedom of movements and didn't make them restricted when it came to combat. This alone was one of the main reasons for him choosing the Archer class.

There were other reasons, but he had to get into the game first before confirming if they were justified or not.

『You have selected 'Archer'』

『Please customise your character』

Soon after choosing his class, a new hologram soon appeared showing a full-body display of Akira's real-life self. The somewhat disturbing thing about it was that it showed him naked, though it didn't have anything inappropriate showing, such as his third leg.

Beside the full-body hologram were a number of other customisation options, such as a menu screen that let him change his body proportions and another that let him change his skin tone as well as hair colour.

After a bit of thinking, he ultimately decided to change his body shape a bit by making it leaner than it was in real-life. He was by no means a bodybuilder in real-life, he was actually pretty skinny, but he wanted his body to be a bit smaller in width since he felt his muscles may prove to be a bit of a nuisance in the future, especially if he was going to be an archer.

The other thing he changed was the colour of his hair so that it gained a brownish hue and faded into a crimson red near the tips of his bangs, his eyes were also changed to match his hair as his previously blue eyes were now a pale scarlet colour.

"Alright, that looks good." Akira nodded in satisfaction before clicking onto the confirmation button. As soon as he did, his body glowed for a second before changing exactly into the model figure he had just created. "Woah, neat. Alright, looks like that's all there is to it."

In front of him, all of the information such as his chosen name, class, and also an image of his avatar was display on a menu screen in front of him. At the bottom of all of that was another menu screen that only had a few words displayed.

『Do you wish to continue with these settings?』

"Yes."

『Answer confirmed』

『Settings approved by the administrators』

『We welcome you to Unlimited Fantasy Online!』
