Settling into the guild

The first person who went up was a girl. Ares didn't know her but she seemed to be confident as she placed her hand against the door. There was a grinding sound as she contacted its surface however the door did not change. The girl seemed embarrassed and her face flushed. Instead of stopping she closed her eyes and again tried to push the door open. The door did not budge instead a strange pulse emitted throwing the girl away from the door and forcing her to fall backwards onto her butt.

"A worthy effort, I can see good things from you, you pass." Evaluated Nova an approving look on her face. The girl seemed happy and returned to her seat.

The next person up was Sisaro, Ares was interested to see how he would do considering it was likely he was the first to notice the door.

Sisaro placed his hand against the door and shut his eyes. There was a moment of silence before the door opened ever so slightly, it was far from open enough to enter but there was a light that could be seen emitting out the crack. He let go and the door quickly sprang shut again.

"Very good, you clearly understood the profoundness of Push. You pass." Nova seemed even happier at the outcome.

Sisaro did not smile instead walking back to his seat in silence.

The next person was another unknown a young man who seemed to be quite confident. Unfortunately for him he could not affect the door in the slightest, even the grinding noise heard by the first attempt was absent.

"Lies will not help you here, if you do not understand something do not pretend. Your attempt was poor and a clear fail. Return to your seat." Nova looked coldly at the boy. The boy realising, he had been caught hung his head and returned to his seat in silence.

Victor approached the door. He placed his hand on the door and shut his eyes. His concentration was evident from the veins protruding from his forehead.

There was a moment of silence before the door once more creaked slightly open. The red door opened wider then Sisaro but not by much. A blinding white light illuminated the room. Victor seemed to continue his effort but after a short period like an elastic band the door sprang shut. Victor was pushed backwards a few steps.

"Very good effort, it is important to remember that sometimes over-reaching your bounds will cause more pain then necessary. You pass." Nova assessed.

Finally, it was Ares's turn. He approached the door and placed his hand upon the surface. The silver circle in his mind began to rotate and he shut his eyes and ran it around and around in his mind. There was a soft exclaim from the back of the room. Ares ignored his surroundings and continued to pour his attention into the silver circle rotating in his mind. There was a click and the resistance against his hand stopped. He opened his eyes.

The door was almost halfway open, there was more enough space for him to squeeze into the doorway. He turned to look at Nova.

Nova was surprised at the aptitude of the young man called Ares but did not want him to become arrogant.

"You passed but know that only when the door is truly open you will have skill." The words rolled off her tongue but she secretly felt in a state of shock. This was perhaps the most she had ever seen someone open the door of truth on their first attempt; even when she had undergone the same test years ago she only managed to open it around 30%, Ares had managed at least 45%. Nova realised perhaps a second great space mage would soon be illuminated.

After Ares returned to his seat she continued.

"This spell is a simple yet well known spell, it is called push. For those of you who did not manage to grasp it yet it will be expected you know it within a week. At that time those who did not attempt or failed will return to the door and attempt to move the door. Push is one of the non-classified spells of which anyone can learn. The silver outline shows that it is a common spell and its complexity level is low. Upon fully understanding this spell you will be able to use it to for moving large objects, some more talented magicians even integrate this spell into fighting styles."

Ares seemed surprised at the versatility of the spell, also why hadn't he heard about non-classified spells they sounded like they could be very useful. Thinking to himself Ares realised that his knowledge of magic was woefully lacking.

"That concludes our test for today, tomorrow we will continue with combat testing I suggest you all rest well. The rest of today is free, familiarize yourselves with the compound." With that Nova opened another portal and stepped through. After following Nova through the portal the group found themselves back in the courtyard they had started. Nova had left the area before they returned.

Ares had one thing on his mind; broadening his knowledge. Having spoken to Tracy, Sisaro, Den and Joe they all agreed it would be a good use of their time and departed to find the library building. The compound was fairly easy to navigate with signs pointing them towards any area of interest. The library was close to the boundary wall. As they entered the library they all looked around in awe. The building itself wasn't impressive from outside, it looked square and somewhat squat. The inside however, blew their minds. As they entered there were stairs leading down to several sublayers. Huge several story high book cases lined the walls and lay in long corridors around the building. There must have been several thousand books. Ares smiled at the view and quickly bid his farewells to the rest of the group. He wanted to explore and learn about magic.

At the same time across the city Nova had entered the most heavily guarded parts of the compound and was stood outside a black door.

"Come in" A deep voice resounded.

Nova opened the door meekly, her confident front no longer being shown. She entered the door and spoke quietly. The room was dark and a person was sat behind a desk his features hidden by shadow.

"Sir, we have another prodigy in our midst." Nova said her eyes fixed on her own feet.

"Another, what has this one done to earn such high praise from you." The figure said.

"He opened the testing door to almost half." Nova said.

"Hmm, interesting; perhaps our Space guild will no longer be subdued by the others. Keep an eye on this one but do not help him. Trials and tribulations are what makes a mage. You are dismissed." The figure said waving his hand at Nova. She did not reply instead bowing her head and retreating back out of the room.
