Heading For The Slums

The skeleton was not stupid enough to let the twelve-year-old girl out of the house. He allowed her to use the bathroom but that was the limit of its patience. It did not understand what the bathroom was for but this was the only way to stop the girl from crying. In the house, she was allowed to roam around freely as long as she did not make any escape attempts.

The skeleton spent the entire day comprehending the Wind Blade skill. It was able to confirm that the more knowledge and understanding it had on how to increase power, the more the battle axe could achieve for it. After completing its comprehension of the Wind Blade skill in a single day, the unknown cultivation technique became more complex. It writings on the axe were so dense that when the skeleton thought that it would eventually run out of space, the axe expanded to occupy the entire room. It learned that it can always control the size of the axe at will.

When night came, the skeleton put on its dark cloak and left for the Fei Mansion.

It moved around the town with its Life Sense skill active. When the Fei Mansion came into its range, the skeleton sensed many powerful people were secretly guarding the mansion.

The skeleton also sensed that it was powerful enough to kill all of them but this would lead to chaos. The skeleton was patient and it wanted to grow its power slowly. It chose the slow route because it was outnumbered one to millions and if it were to stir up too much chaos, the humans would come to their senses and kill it off when it was still weak. From all the books the woman whose house it now occupied had read to it, whenever creatures different from the humans in appearance or some other manner come into existence, the humans raise and kill these creatures in the name of righteousness.

The skeleton understood that it was very different from the humans and the fact that it needed to kill to increase its power made its situation much more dire. If it were to be discovered by the humans, only death awaited it.

The skeleton slowly turned around without appearing suspicious.

Since this hunting ground had been closed down, the skeleton realized its error. It had attacked someone whose influence and wealth were too great for this town. Any deaths or disappearances were bound to attract unwanted attention. The skeleton then remembered passing the slums of the town. This part of the town was packed with over sixty percent of the humans yet their security was negligible. The skeleton had wanted to avoid this area since it was where it was currently staying.

If it were to kill too many people in this area, the investigation of the disappearances would be concentrated on its doorsteps.

The skeleton decided to kill in this area before finding a solution to this problem.

The skeleton walked into the slums and began using its Life Sense skill to find the strongest stock around. It wanted humans that could provide at least half a unit of corpse qi.

It found its first victim in an abandoned house. It was a man who had made the run-down complex his home. The skeleton was too powerful. It turned him into black dust before he could even think of screaming. As expected, the man provided half a unit of corpse Qi.

The skeleton did not stop at just one victim. It needed to collect at least ten units of corpse qi. This meant that it had to kill at least twelve properly chosen humans in a single night. The skeleton released its dark qi and enveloped its entire body. This was to provide some measure of camouflage.

Like the wind, it moved through the slum making sure not to kill too many people in the same neighborhood.

The slum had thousands of humans. The skeleton hoped that killing a few tens at once would not attract too much attention. In less than an hour, it had reached its goal of ten units of corpse Qi. Not everything had gone according to plan. It had needed to kill an extra human to reach the goal.

The skeleton had also searched its victim's belongings for money and books. It had taken the money since those who had money in human society seemed to have power and the skeleton wanted power. Even monetary power was pleasing to it. It wanted the books to sate its ever-growing thirst for knowledge. It was no longer interested in acquiring knowledge just for its battle axe but also for its mind. It felt a great emptiness that could only be filled with knowledge.

The skeleton carried a sack over its back as it returned to the house it had made its own.

The sack was filled with books and money from all the people it had killed. The money was less than one percent of the sack. On its way, it remembered the human girl. It killed a few people in a restaurant before robbing all the food, money and books present.

When it returned to the house, the girl had fallen asleep on the chair where it had tied her up. The skeleton put the food on the table before untying the human.

The young girl was soon awakened by the smell of the food. The skeleton said nothing to her. It was busy examining the battle axe for any changes. The girl began eating the food as the skeleton read the words on the axe.

[Corpse Qi: Twelve Units]

[Skills:Life Sense----Stage Two...Upgrade///Decomposition----Stage One...Upgrade]

[Unknown Technique-----Level One (Life Force Vision, Rapid Decomposition, Dark Blade.)]

It had increased its corpse qi to twelve units after its slaughter in the restaurant.

It could now upgrade the Life Sense skill and the decomposition skill but it did not have enough information and corpse qi to upgrade the unknown technique that could directly increase its cultivation.
