42 Chapter 42

Alice woke up before the dawn, while it was still dark outside, because of all the havoc caused due the morning training. She first tried to ignore it but can't. Eventually she got up from the bed. She sat at her reading desk and stared at the wall blankly.

After a while, she heard a knock at the door.

"Who is it?" Alice asked.

"It's me, milady" Emma answered from outside.

"Oh. Emma. Come inside" Alice said.

The door opened and a maid stepped inside. She had brown shining hair tied in a pony. Her black and white maid dress was well maintained. A sparkle appeared in her mint eyes when she smiled upon seeing Alice

"Why did you wake up so early?" Alice asked as she yawned.

"I was unable to sleep. And I thought that you might be awake being a light sleeper" Emma replied.

Upon hearing that, Alice put her head on the table and closed her eyes. Her uncombed hair lying all around her. After a while, she got up and stretching her body lazily on the chair cried, "I want to sleep."

"Waking up early is a good habit, milady" Emma teased.

"Yes. It is good habit when you have something to do. I don't have any work. I can't even read a book because of all these noises. When will they go from here? I really want to sleep" Alice complained.

"Don't worry. Once the master gets better, they will complete their work they have with him and go away" Emma tried to encourage.

Alice already informed Emma about her father's health. Being a personal maid, it will be weird if she doesn't know whereabout of Alice. And she also promised she won't reveal it to anyone. She is the -person Alice trusts the most.

"When?" Alice shouted, irritated.

"Pufft" a laugh escaped from Emma's mouth.

"Why are you laughing?" Alice asked with dumb expression.

"You look funny. Milady has always been a calm person who handles everything with clear mind. But ever since the people of North has arrived, milady has been showing many different expressions. You have become more cheerful and even funny."

"Shut up" Alice pouted her face.

Alice then remembered something that she planned to ask last night.

"Emma, do you know the servant serving father?" she asked.

"No milady" Emma said calmly, "but if you want, I can find that person."

"I want that person to report everything about father's health" Alice said.

"Do you want me to him bring today?"

"No. You contact him and ask him to report to you. Bribe him to shut his mouth with the money in my account. Don't let mother or Maria find out about this" Alice ordered naturally.

"I did not know you were so good at spying" Emma commented at her swift commands.

"I didn't know too" Alice smiled nervously.

"Sister, are you awake?" they then heard Stella's voice from outside.

"Oh. Stella, come in" Alice said.

"Do as I told you" Alice whispered to Emma.

A young girl walked in wearing a nightgown, holding her doll. Her eyes were half closed and her blonde hair was completely messed up. She yawned as she walked.

"Sister, sing me a lullaby. I want to sleep. The sun hadn't even risen yet" Stella begged.

Alice sighed.

"Forget about sleeping. Let us play a game here" she said, giving up.
