"Fired?" Alma was taken aback by the words she had just heard. She was so shocked that she almost dropped the cup of coffee that she had just picked up from Shera's desk. Did the president just say that she was fired? Just because she had added sugar to her coffee? 

Why did that reason feel so far-fetched? It was as though the President didn't actually like her and had been finding an excuse to fire her. 

Of course, Shera had been finding an excuse to fire Alma. Putting aside academic excellence and whatnot, the prerequisite for being her assistant was to be a high-ranking member of La Rose Noire. Besides, why would she need another assistant when she had Ash? Hence she snorted, "You may leave."
